Can Titanfall Save The Xbox One?

So, Titanfall. Arguably the first “real” next-gen” title (it’s also coming out for 360, but no one is talking about that one). It’s certainly the title Microsoft has been pushing as their premiere title.

Well i don't know that the xbone needs saving. It's behind the PS4 and falling further behind as we speak but that by no means indicates that it's going the way of the Wii-U. I don't feel that it'll ever catch the PS4 but the xbone will be fine with or without titan fall.

Gazondaily4456d ago

This isn't a sprint, its a marathon. Xbox One is doing fine although it is getting spanked by Sony at this stage.

It has an uphill struggle but that is the PERFECT situation for gamers, particularly Xbox fans, who can finally remain confident that Microsoft will deliver a better performance when it comes to exclusive games. E3 will prove this.

kingdip904456d ago

I have read a few articles here and there suggesting that the xbox ones weekly sales numbers are down to wii u lows... your right by saying that Microsoft is not in trouble right now but if sales stay in this slump then I believe microsoft do have a problem on their hands.

The xbox one in that sense does need saving, it needs something to help it sell systems continually above that of the staggering wii u, otherwise everyone who has been speaking of the wii u as a failure will be forced to admit the same for xbox one.

A single game release and sales spike will not be enough like I said microsoft need to come up with a plan to make xbox one attractive enough to ship more units week after week to avoid the future many seem to be predicting. Something more dazzling than titanfall needs to be pulled out of Redmonds backside.

Why o why4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

A different gaming ethos helps much more than a single game. Maybe ms have learnt their lesson but time will tell on that one.

I agree they dont need saving yet but they're definitely on shaky ground in relation to the competition.

Its telling that we're not talking about system sellers but system savers whereas the direct competition is a selling system without the systems sellers apparently......gf

"This isn't a sprint, its a marathon"

God that line is so tired and in this case, history does not support it. MS has yet to beat anyone but the Gamecube in the 3 marathons they've been in.

Unless one of them gets lucky and finds the casuals the Wii had, both MS and Nintendo will always battle for 2nd place.

"God that line is so tired and in this case, history does not support it. MS has yet to beat anyone but the Gamecube in the 3 marathons they've been in"

Actually, history does support it. Remember the PS3? What a shoddy start it had and look how impressively it pulled itself back to form?

Believe it or not, some people actually care about the games MS churn out rather than obsessing over who wins what. I haven't got shares in Microsoft, I look forward to the games, hence why I said:

" Microsoft will deliver a better performance when it comes to exclusive games."

If MS comes second or third or whatever this gen but finally delivers on the games we want, who cares? Last gen when MS was on top on sales for a while, how many on here got derided for referencing the dominant sales of the 360 system?

Games come first and foremost. That's what will save the Xbox One if it was in trouble. It isn't. Not at this stage anyway.

Silly Mammo4456d ago

"Arguably the first “real” next-gen” title (it’s also coming out for 360, but no one is talking about that one)."

The source engine its built on says differently. Hardly next gen.

Godmars2904456d ago

"This isn't a sprint, its a marathon."

And every time its as if MS sprints. Makes a strong beginning effort, then loses interest. What happened to Rare is a perfect example and so is Titanfall. An IP MS had little to do with but have put great expense in trying to claim.

Kingthrash3604456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

no game can save a system...see mario 3d world.
imo x1 dosent need saving, but if tf dosent move consoles after
1. price cut AND free tf in EU
2. free tf bundle in US
then its worrying for ms. imo as they deserve. they put themselves in this position. the lies the attempted murder of this console generation, the overpricing of an underpowered machine, the forced kinect and the spy ads, the constant forced wallet rape (must buy batt pack still, must buy live for most standard features must buy headphone accessories, etc)
they approched this gen with a level of greed and cockyness, knowing they didnt make a powerful console yet they pack a largly unpopular kinect and charge 500 for the machine.. plus the drm thing.
all that and they still say the x1 is most powerful, or "xbox* sold the most software" type of underhanded deceit that it imo makes the deserve to be in the position they are in. MANY gamers wont forget this MANY gamers dont trust them and its no ones fault but ms.
x1 is a great console..it really is. but the people behind the machine fail it.
if they would have kept it real they wouldnt be in the position they are in now.

Gamer6664456d ago

@kingdip90

X1 sales are depressed right now because of the Titanfall bundle (Buy X1 and get Titanfall free - But it ships for March 11). Why would anyone buy a regular X1 today knowing this? I am surprised sales aren't worse.

Fireseed4456d ago

@Godmars

You act as if Jack Tretton or Shuhei Yoshida themselves had ANY involvement in games like The Last of Us or Uncharted. Heck Mark Cerny was a higher up in Sony and he made a game... that went great right?

Point is BOTH companies "pay" for their exclusives. The difference between MS buying some third party games, and Sony hiring first party devs is minimal at best.

quenomamen4456d ago

I would not use the terms " Wait till E3 and Xbox One " after last years fiasco.

I don't if the XB1 really needs saving yet, and I doubt TitanFall will push to many XB1s...it is on the 360, and PC as well, some may not see this as a reason to switch.
MS may not need saving yet, but as much money as they have invested in TitanFall they need it to be a success

PONTIAC08G8GT4456d ago

Over 3.5 million consoles sold. #2 fastest selling console ever. Lot's of exclusives coming down the pipe. So where does the X1 need saving?

Is it selling as well as PS4, no. But in no way is it bombing or tanking. The system is 3 months old and we are talking about needing saving from 1 single game? How about all the other games coming out this year? Tell the 3.5+ million X1 owners that the system is failing and see what they think.

Mikelarry4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

One game alone will not save the xbox one. it is really unfair to put all that pressure on the dev because we all know what would happen if that does not happen. gamers need to ask themselves what they really require from their next gen machine and choose the one that ticks the most box

Blaze9294456d ago

save from what? What's happening? Nothing? Oh.

TristanPR774456d ago

Xbone is struggling to compete with the PS4 and their sales are in par with the Wii U.

So this was MS plan all alone? Oh, then nothing is happening.

Garethvk4456d ago

They need more than that. I think they will try to market it to make the less informed believe they have to have an Xbox One to play it, but most gamers will know if they have a good PC there is no reason to get the console just for this one.

u got owned4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

gamers are not the only ones who play games, you have also the general market (which is bigger than the hardcore) most of them don't play games on PC. But then again for the general market $500 is too much. The only thing that will save MS is dropping kinect and the price.

lsujester4456d ago

They're already doing that. Virtually every mention of this game I see comes along with Xbox One.

And that's not including willing partners like GameStop. The ones around here have X1 and Titanfall plastered over the entirety of their front windows.

maximusprime_4456d ago

Not many gamers play shoot em up games or enjoy playing it. XBox one needs more than just shoot em up games to be saved

press-start4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

"Not many gamers play shoot em up games or enjoy playing it. XBox one needs more than just shoot em up games to be saved"

I agree it needs more then just Shoot em ups but to say that not many people play them or enjoy playing them is just wrong there are TONS of people that love them games including me.

just look at COD sales for PROOF doe that would not be my choice of shooters but you get my point.

as for Titanfall I think it will sell fine YES it would sell better if it where multiplatform but its not as far as save the Xbox NO boost its sales for the month is all it will do.

u got owned4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

COD says hello.

fermcr4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

"Not many gamers play shoot em up games or enjoy playing it"

That's one of the dumbest things anybody has ever said on N4G.

ma1asiah4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

Activision may wish to rethink why they keep pumping out a new COD every year since not many gamers play shoot em ups....man and here I was thinking that COD was one of the most profitbale franchises on console.

Dayum for that matter games like Halo, Battlefield, Killzone and the list goes on might as well call it a day since as you put it not many gamers play shoot em ups.

As for the X1 needing to be saved all I can say is WTF. Its only 4 months if that into the console's life cycle, sales might be down but come on 13 countries compared to hell I loose count of how many countries the PS4 is now available in not really a fair comparison in my opinion. Yes I get the PS4 is dominating in countries that the Xbox brand fared more favorable in previously, still it is far from not selling at all and in fact is selling far better than its predecessor in the same time frame.

You people never cease to amaze me with these pointless doom and gloom articles, give it a rest already for fudge sakes.

The Xbox One doesn't need "saving".

People need to get this out of their heads, PS4 is in beast mode, Xbox One just isn't doing as well, but regardless still selling.

Why o why4456d ago (Edited 4456d ago )

Ps4 Altered Beast Mode smashing sh*t

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1347d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1347d ago (Edited 1347d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
