VR vs. Simulator Sickness

VRFocus - In these early days, virtual reality (VR) faces a number of challenges. Many of them are minor bumps in the road; no doubt the likes of the Oculus Rift VR headset will deal with audio issues and developers should be able to think outside the box for third-person solutions. But there’s one issue that could prove to be a huge hurdle for the technology. This is something that doesn’t relate to a title’s quality but to our personal health. That something is simulation sickness.

I remember the first time seeing 3D in the movies and I got this feeling right away. Right now its betters (depending which 3D it is…like reald, dolby 3D, IMAX, Sony, etc) but still there. Im still positive about it because I rather have tons of R&D go into this VR now and hopefully within the next several years it will be very smooth! :)

I don't think I had ever seen a movie in 3D until Gravity. I have to say, it completely ruined the film for me. As soon as I put the glasses on I had a headache and I had it all the way through.

I would like to get an Oculus Rift, but I know I will suffer from headaches. My eyes are starting to deteriorate.

The 3D in Gravity was not even that great, it was very subtle and barely even noticeable. I'm not sure if the film was shot with stereoscopic cameras but there are many films that are shot on normal cameras and then the 3D is done later in post, the effect is almost always inferior to films that are shot stereoscopically.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook71032d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt1032d ago (Edited 1032d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal1032d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow1032d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal1032d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt1032d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.
