"Michael Pachter humors the thought of EA’s profit deal with Microsoft continuing onto sequels."

doubt it...if anything a mass effect type thing will happen.
ms needs this to be a x1 only exclusive. i dont think that would ever happen. the more popular the game gets the more a 3rd party dev is gunna want it on as many consoles as possible.. in fact if they want to beat cod in sales they NEED multiplat.
before the weirdos begin with the 'fanboy' this and that i could really care less if it is or not. i'm just speaking from a business perspective and all signs point to multiplat asap. respawn dont work for ea or ms and they have the most control over the game so i thing multi will come.

RyuCloudStrife4460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

doubt it, but I really don't want 2 CoD's a year on PS4...

admiralvic4460d ago

"but I really don't want 2 CoD's a year on PS4..."

Don't you mean 3, since isn't CoD and BF* pretty much that already?

JetsFool35004460d ago

@admiral if you think cod & bf are the same you obviously dont play one of the 2

4460d ago
TFJWM4460d ago

Why would you care? Just don't buy them...

diehllane4460d ago

@admiral,

BF doesn't come out yearly and it likely NEVER will.

I doubt Titanfall would end up as a yearly franchise either... I could see every other year though.

Dmagic4460d ago

@ryucloudstrife owwww look out everyone we got a cool ass here complaining about receiving games he doesnt play or buy anyways :/ .

badz1494459d ago

the answer to this question will be revealed once the game is released. if it's doing less than spectacular (honestly I doubt it will) and by that I mean, selling at about 5 mil or so, (I know 5 mil is a lot but considering the hype and the amount of money thrown by both MS and EA into it, 5 mil might not be enough), there is a fat chance even the 1st Titanfall won't stay exclusive.

but even with that, we wouldn't know because MS is now basically giving away the game to new XbOne owners! either you like Titanfall or not, getting it for free with a new XbOne is tempting if you have the slightest interest in the XbOne to begin with.

I honestly think that there is a catch in the deal between MS and EA over Titanfall exclusivity that there is a certain sales target needed to be achieve or the deal is off. it's the only logical explanation I can think of regarding the recent price cut and code giveaway for new owners. one doesn't simply give away a game touted as "system seller", "most anticipated game of 2014" and "biggest exclusive of 2014" if nothing is on the line!

as far as this exclusivity deal is concerned, I think it's a do or "forget it!" thing for MS.

Giul_Xainx4459d ago

Let me roll my 20....

Up... Natural 1.... looks like it won't be exclusive to the Xbox anymore.

mcstorm4459d ago

I think it will stay Xbox and pc only. One thing people forget is there around 80 million 360's out there and if Titan fall can become a hit on the 360 as well as do well on the Xbox one people will look to move from the 360 to Xbox one as titan fall 2 would be a Xbox one game not a 360 game.

This could work out well for both ea and Microsoft in the end abit like gears did for epic and Microsoft.

TomShoe4460d ago

I doubt it.

Keep in mind that EA made this deal back pre-E3, when it was assumed that Xbox was going to dominate the United States and this generation. This was also supposed to be a timed exclusive (Probably about 6 months, like PvZ: Garden Warfare).

After the E3 fallout, Microsoft hastily made a deal with EA for the lifetime, behind the back of Respawn. Zampella didn't seem too happy about that being done without his knowledge.

Because of how this gen has gone so far, I doubt EA is going to turn away from a larger install base, a greater chance of profits, and the potential to have an FPS title that can rival Call of Duty. For people that say Microsoft should just buy Respawn itself or the IP, Zampella is already rich himself, and one of the reasons he left Activision is because he didn't want to be bullied by another big-name publisher.

It could happen, but now that Titanfall is an established brand, I think that it's doubtful at best, especially since Sony isn't sitting on their hands either, rumors said that they're working on bringing it to PS as well.

_FantasmA_4460d ago

Titanfail's an established brand? Oh really. Its not even yet, its sold 0 copies, it hasn't been reviewed yet, it probably won't hold the attention of the M$ casuals once Destiny, The Division, Call of Duty, and other shooters come out.

xDHAV0K24x4460d ago

Microsoft wouldnt "bully" them the way Activision did. Titanfall wouldnt be a yearly release. That right there removes all the stress and bs.

BlackPrince 424460d ago

@XDHAV0K24x

Huh?

Microsoft's relationship with it's internal devs is mixed to bad. Bungie left, Rare is in shambles. Black Tusk just got saddled with Gears instead of being allowed to work on its own project (so much for new IPs from Microsoft). 343i was just made to continue milking Halo. And who even knows what's going on with Lionhead.

If I'm Zampella I'd want to work with Sony, or Ubisoft, or 2K, one of those publishers that takes risks and isn't a afraid to lose money on a good idea.

Kayant4459d ago

The only way I see this happening is if the Xbox division can justify paying 300+ million to get it exclusive again because you have to remember TF is considered one of EA's new mega franchises in rotation with BF and star wars and if EA is thinking of getting COD money especially with Activision now having destiny that could be huge as well and is available on most platforms they would need the playstation userbase from PS4 and PS3 and with the PS4 currently leading also it's not going to be easy for MS.

I think what will happen in the end is a COD situation of DLC first to Xbox platforms.

morganfell4459d ago

"Microsoft wouldnt "bully" them the way Activision did."

Ahem. Why do you think Bungie wanted out from under their thumb? Why do you think so many good Bungie people left the dev team they loved? MS doesn't handle teams they way Sony does. This isn't like ND where no one outside the company tells them what to do.

Lifendz4460d ago

If EA's smart, it won't be. PS4 is going to own this generation barring a massive Xbone price cut. So if EA wants this to challenge COD, they BETTER make it available on every platform.

xDHAV0K24x4460d ago

So they admit defeat with battlefield? Now that there will be 3 COD's, will they want to have a 3 diff shooters to catch up with sales? Assuming TF goes multi, they would still need one more shooter.

Lifendz4459d ago

Admit defeat? No. BF is a shooter, but it plays nothing like COD. TF and COD are more aligned in terms of play style (for obvious reasons) and, therefore, more likely to have the same fan base.

showtimefolks4459d ago

sooner or later TF will end up on ps4. Respawn actually didn't want to do the exclusive but EA went behind their backs. Also respawn own the IP so for TitanFall 2 they can go with a different publisher if they choose to

i still believe TF will be on ps4 in 6-12 months under a new name at the end, something like TF GOTY edition or something. And before i get countless replies saying its a 100% exclusive for xbox brand than i will simple ask, will a developer or publisher confirm a exclusive game for another console? wouldn't that be counterproductive for MS? let's say EA or respawn say TF will be on PS3/PS4 in 6 months, meaning people don't have to rush and buy an xbox console to play it.

but we will see days of 3rd party exclusives are dead. There is a reason MS bought gears of war IP, because no matter what Epic owned it and could have done whatever they wanted with it

so unless MS is publishing TF than its a 3rd party game meaning other consoles are possibilities

Chevalier4459d ago

Ninja Gaiden was published by microsoft, didn't stop Ninja Gaiden Sigma on ps3. They could just have 1080 P and 30 fps and call the upgrade Titan Fall Theta or whatever and it could still come out on PS4 because Respawn own the IP.

Maml074459d ago

i think we have to play tf first then we have to think about tf2... lol
patcher is crazy man

Baccra174459d ago

Don't see why EA can't pull a Demon Souls. Everyone knows that Demon Souls is Dark Souls. They could easily make a game with another name that everyone would know is actually "Titan Fall" but isn't.

sinspirit4459d ago

@mcstorm

Obviously, any exclusive would benefit the console maker..

The point is that Titanfall doesn't need XBox. XBox needs Titanfall. Titanfall has grown popular and easily would make up for whatever Microsoft would pay for its exclusivity. Even if the projected sales on other platforms wasn't much more than what Microsoft would pay for it they wouldn't miss out on getting more publicity for the game.

WalterWJR4460d ago

GIT GUD at killing mindless bots, no thanks.

IAmSovereign4460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

WalterWJR doesn't understand the purpose of the bots. I feel like nobody does.

People see them and think you're supposed to kill them and keep your focus on them. You aren't. Their AI is terrible on purpose because their purpose is cannon fodder and nothing more. You're running by them to a chokepoint, 20-25 bullets and you cleared out a group, and probably shaved 40 seconds off your titan drop time. Everyone saying you can't find players is just nutty. I was one of the biggest opponents of the AI. But I understand the need for them now. They're like the minions in LoL. They aren't there to challenge you, only to supply you with some gold because gold = solid lead against your enemy.

Kingthrash3604460d ago

smh, then why even have them? game would be even more epic if at least 8v8 pvp, no minions. wtf i need a minion in a fps? LoL is a rpg. tf is a fps. if they are here to stay let them be smarter, let them be able to take commands or something useful..cannon fodder is just another word for moving targets. they are no fun and uesless remove them or fix the ai..this game is better off without them imo.
i cant wait for the reviews..i hope they dont overlook the many flaws this game has...and i aint talking bots.

IAmSovereign4460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

@kingthrash

With titans on the field so often, 8v8 would be too much. Minions are a gameplay element that seems to work and LoL isn't an RPG, its a MOBA. Totally different. I can see your limited understanding of the gameplay mechanic. You honestly want the AI smarter? You want them to be able to clear you out with ease? There is quite a few of them on the field.

The game will do well without you, I'm sure. I understand the need to dislike Titanfall. I hate the thought that I may be supporting Microsoft in any way by purchasing this game, but it is undeniably a good game. It just faces an uphill battle because of everyone like you who love to hate.

Kingthrash3604460d ago

i never said i didn't like tf....just because i see tf for what it is dosent mean i dislike it. i wish the game didnt have bots, is my opinion. but to say i dislike the game is inaccurate.

play bf4...everyone rolls a tank or heli or jet...available from jump and its epic. a tank is dominate but there are plenty of ways to take it down..may not be easy but its not hard either. tf would be similar....'cept they can't destroy ANYTHING other than other titans...so just run in a house and shoot missiles at it...spin all you want but bots are unnecessary

sinspirit4459d ago

@IAmSovereign

Right, and we don't need gimmicky AI to become something to boast about for a game.

Everyone understands the purpose of bots. It's just that they are so terrible and out of place in a FPS. Why would they throw terrible AI in, boast about it being part of the cloud, and only have them for working towards one thing in a game, which is to call a Titan. There are such better ways to go about it. If they got rid of the AI then it wouldn't be much different results. They just want to make up for the lack of player amount.

Ummmmmmm people have played the game, let them make their own decision. I heard them say its awesome. Why are sony fans asking about titanfall 2 cooming to ps4 if the first one sucks so bad. And how would that be a big deal anyway? The other console already has it. So if i own a xone what would putting it on ps4 do for me. As far as install base theories, 360, xone, and pc equal waaaaaaaay more than ps4 at the moment. Respawn and ea will be fine. Titanfall overshadowing everything at the moment. Sony cant get any attention right now. Thats why they are showing lil vids of that work in progress called the order 1886. Who cares about that, its months away? Isnt infamous launching in march? No ones talking about that. I wonder why? No i dont i know why.

corvusmd4460d ago

EXACTLY...the sad thing is that about 50% of the rumors about Infamous and Order are that they are forgettable and broken...and there is some actual fear that they won't be quality games when they release. Hopefully time will allow these games to be refined, they both LOOK gorgeous, but hopefully the final touches make them play well too (BTW where are all the fanboys that were complaining about QTE in Ryse and Gears of War whenever they talk about Order now?).
It's so seethrough...Sony fanboys are so scared of Titanfall, anyone that says that they hate the AI, or that it's just COD with Mechs, and that it will suck (but should come to PS4) is just clearly and insecure fanboy...no way around it, sorry. They either haven't played it, or they did get a taste and they are mad that the first actual "true to hype" next gen game ISN'T on the "gamers console". No matter how much they say "na uh" the fact that EVERY Titanfall article just gets trolled over and over with the same mindless junk from people that have clearly never played it, just proves the point.

I also love how sony fanboys act that Zampella is pissed that it's an XB1 exclusive, that's an assumption...in the same tweet he also said that MS have been wonderful partners...the sad face emoticon could have just been "sorry bout that". They will be fine with PC, 360, and XB1...if a gamer doesn't own one of the 3, they aren't a gamer. If he was trully pissed, he would have said much more than an emoticon. Not to mention that if EA could have done that, they can do it again...that means they own it. It just seems odd that Respawn ALWAYS has nothing but wonderful things to say about MS and how they approached Sony and MS about making this game, and Sony couldn't provide a solution....but MS could, and yet because of one frowny face...Zampella hates MS and feels stabbed in the back. Seems like some people are just assuming too much, the only guy that actually knows is Vince.

LeCreuset4459d ago

Wow. If Sony can't get any attention right now, I'd hate to see what sales are going to look like when Sony does start getting attention.

No matter how hard you try or how much you hope, PS4 is still annihilating sales records and setting a new standard.

I think yes. MS not a stupid, and money talk.

iamnsuperman4460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

It isn't up to Microsoft really. It's EA. Also do you really think Microsoft are stupid enough to pay that much for it (talking a hell of a lot of money here with what return?). EA will be asking a lot since the install base of its competitor should be quite large by that point

loulou4460d ago

@superman

it all depends just how well this works out. but i get the feeling that if titanfall does well, then EA will be asking well over 200m for it to remain exclusive... maybe even upwards of 300m.

for the disagrees, yes i am basing my calcs on EA taking $30 for each copy sold.

so if EA say to ms "we estimate 8m sales on ps platforms, you need to pay us 240m" or they could even estimate more.

ms imo would be better off offering R* half a billion for gta exclusivity lol

Gamer-404460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

MS buy this new FPS IP. 100%.
And You are simply envious because the game does not come Ps4.

Go play, Infamous, Knack, and nice but very boring KZ.

Titanfall 1 and second not coming Ps4. This 99%.

@iamnsuperman

Ok, but I say, Titanfall MS new FPS IP, and not coming PS console, and many PS fanboy's say it always, how many exclusive games there will be PS4, why Titanfall interests this much then? Interesting.

iamnsuperman4460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

@Gamer40

No. I am not really interested in Titanfall since I get bored of multiplayer shooters quite quickly. I buy the more story oriented games because that is what I like.

That aside I commented not out of "jealousy" but pointing out how unlikely Microsoft will pay for Titanfall. If Titanfall becomes as big as the hype suggests they simple could not justify the asking price that EA will ask. Titanfall 1 will never come to the PS4 (we know that). Titanfall 2 will because Microsoft and EA have to make money to make a deal worthy. So Microsoft would have to supply the funding for the lost sales EA would have by not releasing on the PS4 (and in three years that will be a lot of units). Your talking a lot here. Look at the price for COD and BF timed DLC exclusive. Sony and Microsoft paid a fortune for that and that was only DLC. Think about it

Kingthrash3604460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

lol @ gamer
stay on topic please .

think of 2 things..install base and 3rd parties like ea.
if money was gunna win an exclusive then why not buy cod or bf or gta.
tf is a hugly hyped game and respawn needs it under their belts like rockstar, ea, iw, and square. smh fanboys kill me sometimes...tf isnt a exclusive and never will be.
man and imo after playing tf its an above average fps game. not as special as the hype makes it out to be.

"Pach-Attack: Will Titanfall 2 Be Xbox Exclusive?"

Probably. Sony fanboys have said over and over they are not interested in the game, so why release the game on the PS4/PS3?

Just kidding! Now seriously, I doubt Titanfall 2 will be exclusive... but if the game is as big as Gears, Microsoft will probably pay for it to continue exclusive or even a timed exclusive.

Hicken4460d ago

Blanket statements always make people look so silly.

Will the sequel contain only the things that make people not want the first? Are they just gonna change up some maps and Titans, slap a "2" on the end of the title, and call it a day?

Or will they expand and improve, and add things that may draw in more buyers? Hell, you act as if the same people it's catering to on Xbox- largely the Call of Duty crowd- don't exist in some capacity on the PS4.

MASTER_RAIDEN4460d ago (Edited 4460d ago )

lol wow what a pathetic, stealth-troll post.
because all the respawn devs gather in a room and read the n4g comments section from "sony fanboys" right? or do you think its respawn not releasing it is more about punishing those big bad awful fanboys who talk bad about da titanfawlll gamezzz?!?

video games are a multibillion dollar business. video game developers are talented people who enjoy exploring different platforms/possibilities. nobody gives a crap what "fanboys" of any kind have to say about anything. the fact that you think your little blog comments make a difference is hilarious. or the fact that you think respawn would be on "xbox's side" because of "sony fanboys and their comments"-- also hilarious. grow up.

Eonjay4460d ago

You're absolutely correct. I can almost guarantee that TF2 (thank GOD we can abbreviate it now) will be multiplatform. When you make business decisions you need to look at the numbers and leave fanboyism at the door. The more successful the game is, the more money EA is losing. Every EA game on the Xbox One has been more profitable on the PS4. Therefore, any Xbox One sales of Titanfall would at least be doubled if EA was on PS4 as well.

MASTER_RAIDEN4460d ago

i dont think so. not that ms isnt good with keeping their exclusives, but there have just been so many 360 exclusives that eventually made their way to ps3. i owuldnt be surprised if 1 series (which the developer has already admitted, is not an exclusive trilogy) made its way to the ps4.

dveio17d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing17d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9217d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit17d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing17d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9217d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

gamedeveloper.com
Eonjay19d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn220d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn219d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown19d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay19d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay19d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac19d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger20d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300020d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde20d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde19d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_18d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
