With the closure of Irrational Games and Sony Santa Monica canceling an original title 4 years into development, are large AAA game studios becoming obsolete? Titanfall, indie games, and Kickstarter are all changing the way games are being made. GamerzUnite charts how these changes have been 7 years in the making.
Cliff Bleszinski shares thoughts on Gears of War’s PlayStation debut, E-Day, and Microsoft’s Game Pass strategy.

The project will purportedly launch in November 2026 and is the result of Disney's $1.5 billion collaboration with Epic.
Kratos' original voice actor has explained how Sony approached him about returning to the role for the upcoming God of War Greek remake trilogy.

He was at my local game expo just this past December. During Q/A I asked him if he was interested in portraying Kratos again (this was before the reveal of the current projects). He said he would be, but its up to Sony. And they had chosen Judge because he had the stature AND voice to do the job.
So.... he probably already had been contacted to do this, but obviously could not say anything under NDA.
I liked T.C. Carson as Kratos a lot (and also a big fan of Living Single back in the day). But Chris Judge was also great. Carson was pure anger and very fitting for that era, as was Judge for the modern one. I'll never complain about either.I'll need to hear Carson now really go through the lines though and see how he does with classic Kratos.
It's a bit of a similar case for Metal Gear Solid. While I'm forever a Hayter fan and I didn't like Sutherland in the few moments he did speak, Sutherland as Big Boss/Venom Snake did have an "okay" transition voice between Hayter in MGS3 and Peace Walker, and Richard Doyle in MGS4. Both grossly outshined Sutherland, but I guess it has a slight hint of Hayter's gravel and some of the stern, tired and curt inflection of Doyle.
I just wish devs/publishers would stop spending so much money for no reason
The day AAA games die, is the day consoles die, and that is not going to happen anytime soon. SSM cancelled a game just like any other developer does. Doesn't mean anything and definitely doesn't mean that AAA games are dying.
I have to agree that quite a bit of developers have left the industry for smaller and more personal projects. But we still have lots of talent left to last us this new generation of games. Naughty Dog, Bungie, Ubisoft, and such are still around! I feel like after these big guys are leaving the industry, then I'll also leave the console business and switch to PC games.
But until then, I'm looking forward to buying a PS4. It's too early in the new generation life cycle to say that AAA games are dead.
It will make a lot of these publishers more gunshy when it comes to new untested IP's. Just look at Ubisoft and the Assassins Creed franchise. The yearly installments will soon make people tire of even seeing the next game being announced.
Just keep bringing the new IP's! I'll play mostly anything that isn't an FPS, racing game, sports game, or arcade style fighting game! ... Okay I guess that's like 50% of games, but hey.
