Ubisoft's Stealthy Success: Where Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Far Cry will Go Next

Ubisoft is one of many game publishers, but its evolution makes it one of the more interesting. It has risen from humble origins in 1986, when five brothers decided to handle the distribution of third-party games, to owning 26 studios across 19 countries producing some of gaming's biggest franchises. It has rolled out new IPs in a climate that increasingly clings to one established series after the next. And, perhaps most importantly, contrasting its games alongside one another reveals multiple common threads running throughout, a curious indicator of a development process that seems more open than its contemporaries.
