I hope not! i love physical consoles and video games. I'm a collector of all kinds of video games from atari to my double dragon II the revenge arcade cab. every time i hear 'digital download' i die a little inside. and while i do take advantage of ps+ games if they are good i will always buy the physical copy for my collection.

I think there will be another console gen, But if PS now takes off i could see Sony opting to stop making hardware and turn playstation into a service akin to netflix.

Before you start talking about internet speeds remember that this won't be for at least another five years and you don't need a gigabit connection to stream games as it is.

I'm sorry but opinions like these are a joke. There's so much technology that will change _gameplay_ that can't be done on the PS4 or high-end PCs that will be possible in 6-7 years time (and that won't be the last one either).

At the same time tools for both artists and programmers are getting better so each new generation isn't going to require a massive bump in staff.

And what's great is that mobile and indie will also co-exist. They are different markets.

Pffft, no. I don't see why the business model will change in such a drastic way when the industry has slowly been building up to being the most lucrative entertainment business on the planet. Games are hot and will remain hot, and gaming is an industry that feeds itself well. Gamer parents will have gamer children. Not to mention that gaming is the entertainment medium that people of our generation call its own, which means momentum and time are on our side. No one under the age of 40 thinks gaming is kids stuff anymore.

Yes. I think the idea of a console "generation" will end once the Steambox comes out and console consumers are introduced to the idea of a fully customizable unit and an incredible gaming community. The market will change and the big companies will adapt by releasing units that are more closely matched with consumers' changing tastes and preferences.

When consoles die and cloud gaming is the standard. I will just keep my PC and emulate all the greats because gaming will never be the same again for me. However Steambox will not be the cause of the death of consoles

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
