Strider – Review | All Things Xbox

Richard Berry of All Things Xbox writes, "Strider originally sliced its way onto consoles back in 1989 as a side scrolling action platformer and even though the Capcom title was available on my console of choice, I never played through the dystopian future of Strider’s 2048. Several console generations later, Strider is being retold and I will finally get to experience what many consider to be one of Capcom’s greatest gaming achievements."

This is actually a really fun game. Lot's of mixed, reviews, but i feel 8/10 seems right on for me at least.

likeaboss3024480d ago (Edited 4480d ago )

I'm with that 8/10 is right on the money. Well worth $15.

I'd like for Konami to make a Next-gen Castlevania this way.

Always good to hear a review score hits the right notes with people!

this game is an easy 8-9 if your a fan of strider & metroidvania style games.. im really enjoying it! This style fits perfectly with the franchise & i hope it gets a sequel one day.. With completely different levels & music all intertwined with the metroidvania map style.. Great 1st attempt at this game & i definitely recommend it to action rpg lovers

The one ninja forgotten

In the past two years, Ninja games seem to have made a comeback. ININ, Sega, Dotemu, and others have all thrown their names into the arena. Thus far, the quality of each company’s aforementioned games has been high from what we’ve been shown. And in the case of ININ and Dotemu, can literally play their offering as of the writing of this article. Right now, no matter which retro revival ninja franchise you favor, you’re guaranteed a quality game.

We're definitely long overdue for another Strider game.

lodossrage286d ago

The timing would have been perfect had a new Strider game came out now.

FACTUAL evidence285d ago

Heyyy, strider was always my guy. My avi been that guy since I was a member in this site lol.

The only real ninja missing from today's gaming landscape is Rikimaru

Redgrave286d ago

The Tenchu crew must sneak again, Onikage's plans must again be foiled

lodossrage285d ago

Does Activision still have publishing rights to that?

telgou285d ago (Edited 285d ago )

You know who should get a remaster ( graphical recreation not remake, the gameplay is perfect) ? Goh the crow from Shinobido.
Shinobido is the metal gear solid of ninja games...

Some of us gamers still enjoy 2D games. The likes of UN Squadron, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Final Fight, Strider are all due sequels in 2D. Most of these games would probably run off the same engine. Go back to the 8 bit and 16 bit days and you could pull out a ton of 2D games due a sequel.

lodossrage285d ago

well UN Squadron would probably be the least likely to get a sequel since that's actually based on the old anime Area 88. The name was just changed to UN Squadron when it came west.

But then again, I could be wrong. Cobra is getting a new game

Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.

LoveSpuds1317d ago (Edited 1317d ago )

I recall enjoying it well enough at the time, but it wasn't a patch on God of War 3 which came out around the same time I think.

I own it and fired it up on my PS3 about 6 months ago and time hadn't been particularly kind to it although it still very much nailed the atmosphere and it is a cool as he'll setting and universe.

Inverno1317d ago

Dante's Inferno needs the GOW treatment. No cut camera, with a real hellish depiction of the 9 circles and a story as dark and as serious would be amazing.

Yui_Suzumiya1317d ago

Still pretty amazing there was a PSP version that was actually pretty good. I remember playing it 10 years ago. I had the PS3 version when it first came out and loved it.

Ahh the memories of playing Heavenly Sword
Such a amazing experience

LoveSpuds1317d ago

Yup, I remember being blown away with Heavenly Sword. I remember holding out hope that they would go back and add trophy support as a incentive to go back and replay the game, but I don't think they ever did?

Yui_Suzumiya1317d ago

I couldn't beat the final boss though! Spent several days trying but eventually gave up, lol. Still enjoyed it though.

refocusedman1317d ago

heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.

YoungKingDoran1317d ago

I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.
