Titanfall beta had 2 million players

Gamestop says "Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall beta last week started with a limited number of players who were lucky enough to get in. On Saturday night, Feb. 15, Respawn opened the beta to all players on Xbox One and later all PC players as well.

By the time the Titanfall beta ended on Feb. 19, around 2 million people played the game, Respawn’s community manager Abbie Heppe told Polygon."

Nice. Hope they got a good amount of feedback to help with glitches and get those patched before release. This was one of the smoothest betas I've played. Not one crash on PC or Xbox One.

I wonder what the split was. 1mil to 1 mil... 1.5 to .5 and so on.

Giul_Xainx4469d ago

And I hope it sells two million. Because there will be some serious jokes coming out if it doesn't.

TheRedButterfly4469d ago

@Giul

And the only people making the joke will be the ones who can't play it… Makes you wonder why they'd be making the jokes. Jealousy? Or insecurity?

3-4-54470d ago

I wonder how that is going to effect sales and if that has possible lost them some sales.

Maybe some of the players who played the BETA and didn't like it might not buy the game now, but they would have had they never had the chance to play the BETA and had to buy on blind faith and hype.

The game is pretty decent and should sell well, but wasn't what I was looking for.

Death4470d ago

I was unsure before I played the beta. Now I can't wait for it to launch.

Jeedai Infidel4470d ago

I heard many in the beta say they came to see what the hype was about and then go on to say they were surprised by how much they liked it and will buy it at launch. I actually played some matches with a guy that started out making fun of it and by the end of the third or fourth match conceded that he would probably end up buying it.

CoLD FiRE4469d ago

I was skeptical before the beta but right after the beta ended I pre-ordered the game which is not something I do often.

I spent over 10 hours in the beta and I liked the game so much.

mediate-this4469d ago (Edited 4469d ago )

@345 Yeah what you're looking for is a great single player experience with zero social competitive interaction.

christocolus4470d ago

these numbers are really good. pre-orders should be way beyond 350k just on the xbox one right now.

This game is definitely going to be a huge success. no doubt

QuickdrawMcgraw4470d ago

So you played both the PC and Xbox1 versions. How did they compare?

Gamer19824469d ago

2 million? it was an OPEN BETA so that's not an impressive number. Meaning everybody who wants the game could play this BETA and probably did.. Not all those 2 million will be buying either as some just try new games whether they buying or not. This is of course PC and Xbone only though as there was no 360 BETA. Some 360 gamers may have got on PC who are planning on getting for 360 thus lowering those potential sales for PC/Xbone a bit more.. But can see this game selling around 1.2 million on PC/Xbone combined day 1 and around 3 million+ on 360. Not bad for a new IP even if it's a blatant rip off (price wise)

Regardless what people say, Titanfall is going to be super successful!

KwietStorm_BLM4470d ago

I don't think anyone with any sense ever said it wasn't going to be successful. I think the argument has been how successful it will be for the Xbox One alone, and how much more successful it might have been, had it also been on PS3 and PS4.

LAWSON724470d ago (Edited 4470d ago )

The way PS4 fanboys talk the only reason it is hyped is because it is an Xbone "exclusive", and if it was coming to PS4 and PS3 the game would have hardly any buzz or anticipation surrounding it.

zerogotit4470d ago

You cant say that...thats like saying infamous or any other ps exclusive would be more successful if it were on xbox as well..thats not an argument

KingDadXVI4470d ago

Nope, many sour fan boys have been trolling TitanFall and positive Xbox articles night and day saying it is nothing but COD with bots and the Cloud is a joke.

That was the smoothest Beta I have every played and the servers worked like a top. They had their one glitch early on which was exactly what the Beta was meant to find. After that it was smooth as butter.

Some, not all but some PS4 fan boys just hate the fact that Sony dropped the ball and did not get this game.

Ricegum4470d ago

But I've seen a lot of Xbox fans use Titanfall to get one over PS4 fans, just because it's only on Microsoft platforms, and not because they actually like the game haha. It works both ways.

kickerz4470d ago

I really enjoyed the beta. Ran smooth. Takes a while to get good at it. Glad there was a really good tutorial before beginning the game. Loved the falling mechs from the sky. Also love when you eject from your mech. Very enjoyable game.

Ra30304470d ago (Edited 4470d ago )

@ LAWSON72
"The way PS4 fanboys talk the only reason it is hyped is because it is an Xbone "exclusive", and if it was coming to PS4 and PS3 the game would have hardly any buzz or anticipation surrounding it".

Let me help you out....the PS4 fans says TITANBOT is over hyped not because it's a XBONER exclusive. Which it's not. It's over hype as the greatest thing ever in the hopes and dreams of selling XBONER consoles. But it seems the only ones that can't figure that out is Micro$$$oft and the ones they've already given the big XBONER to. .....your welcome.

mediate-this4469d ago (Edited 4469d ago )

Well you need a killer game to be that crazy new game of gen, very few single player games are as crazy hot cake selling as mp games

@above

And how many people on both side over hype/hype their consoles exclusives. Devs do it, execs do it and gamers, its how you build interest and get the community going.

I hear non stop about infamous and the order, no one has played either of those games( talking bout the public) and people still hype those games, but its ok because we want these games to generate buzz and get a communty going.

ramiuk14470d ago

i hope so and im a ps4 owner.
the FPS genre needs a really big kick up the ass.
BF4 was released a mess,COD is stale and there isnt really anything else.

I played the beta on pc

i hated titanfall at first(for about 8 games)then i went on ghosts, went back to titan fall and really enjoyed it,the AI is almost game killing though i have to admit that.

as much as i enjoyed it i was bored after a hour or so,didnt go back to it but i think its because of just being 2 levels.

tigertron4470d ago

I'm just happy with KZ:SF right now.

mcarsehat4470d ago

i think a big improvement would be to make the score go up for killing people only. attrition matches only last about 5 mins because of the bot kills.

Death4470d ago

Bot kills give very little points and are only usefull kills for getting your Titan ready faster.

pandaboy4470d ago (Edited 4470d ago )

pre-orders are very low though. I think it will flop. The beta appears to have driven people away from the game.

H0RSE4470d ago (Edited 4470d ago )

pre-orders don't account for digital copies, high are popular on PC, and increasing on next-gen systems.

Pre-orders also don't make up all sales. They typically make up a small portion.

pompombrum4470d ago

It is a new IP though.. Titanfall is the sort of game that will see steady sales throughout the year from critical praise and word of mouth.

LoneWolf0194470d ago

Lol ive heard nothing but praise since the beta from people who ACTUALLY played it. I think your assessment is very wrong

Naga4470d ago (Edited 4470d ago )

@ I actually decided to buy the game after playing the beta. I haven't preordered it, because there is no incentive to do so unless you are seeking a Collector's Editon. As it is, I will buy the game digitally on day one. I have 4 friends doing the exact same thing.

You are either crazy or straight trolling for saying Titanfall will flop, man.

ramiuk14470d ago

i can believe that dude.

n4rc4470d ago

@naga

Same.. I can't see the point in preordering anything unless there is a nice incentive to do so.. Otherwise I'll download it on day one.. Xbl easily exceeds my 20mb connection so they don't take very long

mcarsehat4470d ago

300.000 pre orders in america alone? yeaaaaah, this will flop like an old mans willy (!)

Ashby_JC4470d ago

There are many..like myself who never pre order. What's the point? Software rarely sells out..especially fit a major release like titanfall.

H0RSE4470d ago

Like others here, I'm not pre-ordering either. I am renting it from Gamefly, and then paying the $45 to keep it.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1349d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1348d ago (Edited 1348d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
