4 Weak Points in Titanfall’s Armor

If you’re a gamer and you have access to either a PC or an Xbox One you very likely got on board with the Titanfall beta these past few days. A stress test for developers and a hype train build up for gamers it seems like everyone was talking about it. Despite its success here’s a few things we thought might still hold the game down a bit.

I don't see it as a hype train if the game wasn't good people would be crying about it and the ponies would be all over it!I have played the game it's good for noob's and the more experienced guy. it's just a good game and Xbox need's it now more then ever titan fall will be a system seller for Xbox one

I had a hell of a lot of fun with the beta for sure. In a 6 person party via XBL it was crazy fun even when we were getting our asses served to us on a platter. Most of what the writer points out isn't a deal breaker anyways, just some minor gripes overall, a few of them totally patchable if they ended up actually being an issue.

I'll still be purchasing the game, no doubt about that.

lol at "high learning curve" when there's a tutorial for almost everything that will be in the game. The game is pretty straight forward, if you've played a shooter before, you understand the basics. In regards to the titans and how to battle and such, of course that will take some learning what works best for you, but it's not overly complicated like they're making it out to be.

"If you’re the type of gamer to have a hard time in games like Call of Duty and are prone to quick frustration then perhaps it’s best to skip Titanfall altogether."

I'd say a good portion of gamers do get frustrated in games like CoD, but to say it's best to skip the title in general is beyond ridiculous. It's something fresh and different and takes a few moments to get used to like every game. If I play CoD and go to BF, I need some time to get back into things.

I can think of 6v6 weak points.

famoussasjohn4496d ago

Have you played it? It's not a weak point when you consider every engagement that you see as a threat instead of treating the bots as a non-threat, they can still kill you or do damage to your titan.

I was upset when I heard it was 6v6, but I held judgement until I could play the game and 6v6 feels good to me.

Audiggity4496d ago

Agreed. Weeks ago I made countless comments to try and calm down those people complaining about 6v6. Suggesting that they hold their opinions until they try it.

Well. I tried it. And 6v6 feels good to me too.

Some people just like to complain I suppose.

I played it and I just don't get the hype. It's not bad, but wasn't a memorable experience by any means for me. Just felt like a generic shooter with some mechs. I know that's the cliche fanboy thing to say but I genuinely mean it... it felt uninspired. It felt like they went "okay, So the COD formula we made 11 years ago really worked, let's do it again but eliminate fall damage, allow them to scale up walls, and put some mechs in it."

In no way does that mean it's bad or not fun, just don't understand how THIS game is suppose to be xbox one's savior.

@Audiggity true but some people also have different opinions than others. That's what having an opinion is.

Most of the people who complain about the 6v6 either haven't played the game or just hate the game because its not on Playstation.

6v6 is for pilots, add in a titan for each player, 12v12. Try playing the city map (can't remember the name) and the streets are wide enough for 1 titan. So if a titan is battling another, you have to flank all the way around to help. If the game was 12v12 pilots (so possible max of 24v24) could you imagine trying to even move on the map? No chance. Sometime I end up bumping into other Titans on my team. You could fit 24v24 pilots, but with the titans its unrealistic. Now what they could do is make a game mode for pilots only and then increase the player count to like 20v20.

@curtis
Please explain what the COD formula is and how it applies to TitanFall. Fast paced shooter? No kill streaks, no realistic weapons, no gun customizations such as camo, no clan support, no single player, and no emblem creator, and it doesn't take half a clip of ammo to kill an opponent. I wouldn't call this the X1 savior, but it won so many awards during E3, it's the first major multiplayer game released on either console (KZ is a a long standing series on PS). There haven't been any new FPS online shooters in a while so that's why the hype is there.

I haven't used the smart pistol once and I'm near the top of the leaderboards by the end of the match most of the time. I have only been killed by the smart pistol once in the 10 or so hours I put into the beta and that was by the person aiming at me, not using the lock on feature.
No single player, no problem. How many people actually played thought the BF4 campaign or the Ghosts campaign.
The learning curve is not high at all. They gave you a tutorial that is one of the best tutorials I've played through in a long time. Stay there and practice e mechanics before you venture off onto the battlefield. If your still not comfortable wall running and rodeo-ing, then stick to killing the grunts, militia, and spectres.
Burn cards, the evolution of perks. No longer do you have to reach a high skill level or just get really lucky to get a high kill streak. No multiple choppers coming in from the same person over the coarse of one game. You get three burn cards if you choose to set them up and you earn cards nearly every match. There is a limit to how many you can save and they only last one life.

Also, keep in mind, is a BETA.
Respawn is most likely tweaking these things as I write this. If you have a problem with stuff, writing an article is fine but I hope that you wrote a letter to Respawn as well or at least posted to their forums.

Single player in majority of FPS isn't very good or it's short. Heck, look at the new MGS, its over in under 3 hours. People complain about spending $60 on multiplayer only game yet will go buy MGS for its pretty graphics and under 3 hour gameplay.

Smart pistol is for the casual gamer who will kill bots and is just happy they arent getting killed 20 times a match. Try playing COD or BF against people who are max level or tenth prestige and see how much fun the casual gamer has.

DJustinUNCHAIND4496d ago

The only thing I want is for them to increase the winning score for attrition.

They feel too short.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad1372d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g1372d ago (Edited 1372d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
