Cole McGrath May return in inFAMOUS: Second Son or DLC

Junkie Monkeys: Cole Mcgrath is obviously the original hero, and after the sudden change of protagonist in the new sequel, of course eye brows would be raised as to if Cole would ever return. We may have a answer from Sucker Punch...sort of.

Even though they said in the past a big fat "No" and how "Coles story was over and done with"....I knew they were probably lying, most likely to keep it a surprize to us.

The thing is they chose a new hero so they can use him as a way of pushing the story forward without Cole, in Second Son they've changed the world and set it in the future. If they did this with Cole they would have to fill in the blanks through the game of what he was doing in that massive gap or they would of most likely continued it right after the second game.

Least when they do inFAMOUS 3 they will be able to put Cole in a changed world which will serve as a new fresh setting which opens up more plot points, enemies, threats, locations etc

Seems pretty smart to me, plus you wouldn't just get rid of a much loved hero. They changed the voice actor for a mo cap actor in the second game aswell, why do that if you were going to kill Cole off for good.

I think we'll see him at the end of the game. Cole will either be still dead but Deslin or someone else will revive him with the help of Zeke. Another theory is that he will be alive and it will be revealed he did come back to life after the lightning bolt hit at the end of inFAMOUS 2 but because of the changing world and the government him and Zeke went into hiding OR the government took his body at the end of the second game and have locked him up experimenting on him and you'll help Zeke, who has been trying for years to help him free him.

Those are my guesses anyway

Thatguy-3104504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

Wouldn't be surprised if the last cutscene shows a glimpse of Cole. Still remember the last scene where a lighting strikes where the "dead" body of Cole is at. I never believed them when they said his character was done.

GrandTheftZamboni4504d ago

Cole is a vampire now. I'm pretty sure someone somewhere didn't finish Festival of Blood and turned him back to human.

Treezy5044504d ago

Still burned in my memory, Cole must return!

Rodney254504d ago

Fun fact; the lighting was shaped like a question mark.

ironfist924504d ago

The Vampire DLC was set during Infamous 2, not at the end of it.

Old new is OLD.

They confirmed that the collectors and special edition would include DLC called Cole's Legacy covering the events between I2 and I:SS.

Irishguy954504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

Annnnnnd you play as Delsin, set after Coles 'death'. It's about Coles legacy. Not about Cole.

At Akuma, Cole was awesome. Delsin looks a bit meh. I don't like his design. But his powers are awesome. His personality seems like you typical swash buckling hero though so he may be fun.

"Sony says Cole’s Legacy will offer a series of Delsin missions which reveal what happened between the events of Infamous 2 and those of Second Son. It also stresses that the DLC won't be available to purchase separately when the game hits stores next year as it’s an exclusive offer for special edition buyers (and for those who pre-order the title in the US)"
http://www.gamesradar.com/d...

It's about what coles actions led to. Thus his legacy. Look up the word 'Legacy'

ZoyosJD4504d ago

@IrishGuy

Because Cole's Legacy isn't about Cole...right.

The reply was essentially "No comment." There is a DLC called Cole's LEGACY. Put two and two together people.

Anyway, this whole article brought absolutely nothing new forward on the topic of the headline and the rest isn't enough to warrant an article.

DragonKnight4504d ago

@ZoyosJD: Irishguy is right. Cole's Legacy are some missions designed to explain what happened in the aftermath of the Infamous 2 ending, but you don't play as Cole, they never said Cole would even make an appearance in the DLC, and the most you get that has anything to do with Cole is a jacket. Cole himself is NOT the DLC.

THIS article is speculating whether or not Cole himself will appear in future DLC that's not related to Cole's Legacy which, once again, is still about Delsin but explains how the world got from what it was at the end of inFAMOUS 2 to how it is at the start of Second Son.

ZoyosJD4504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

@IrishGuy

Legacy -

1. anything that is handed down from the past
2. of or pertaining to anything that is obsolete

Don't you get it, that alone implies he is *spoiler* DEAD.

@dragonknight

Would you like to identify where this article even states the word "playable". In fact the question quoted asks if he will even be referenced. People are pulling assumptions out of nothing to feed their wishful thinking.

If the article was supposed to dive in and discuss to possibility and likelihood of Cole's return it does a terrible job of it.

Akuma074504d ago

No, just NO!

Surprise?! F**k that. I hate Cole. The reason why I am looking forward to this game so much is the main character is sooooo much better then Cole.

Also, you only produce a limited DLC. I mean, Borderlands 2 is the only exception to that. So let's say they do 3 DLC's, that is ONE whole DLC ruined because of that depressing loser.

Just leave him out of this new story!!

-Foxtrot4504d ago

Delsin looks alright but he has nothing on Cole

I can see Delsin being a bit of a dick about his powers, what made Cole likable is that he didn't want them and I think he sees them as a curse. It destroyed his normal life.

SourShoes4504d ago

Great!! The return of an ugly bald guy to go along with a hipster and his beanie who also needs big thick-framed glasses and skinny jeans with elf shoes to complete the look :p J/k, Day one for me!

Akuma074504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

That is exactly what made Cole annoying. He was always so depressed about everything. Yeah they kind of destroy a LOT of people's lives, so there is no point moping about it.

I like Delsin's cocky attitude. I like seeing someone who enjoy's his powers.

Baccra174504d ago

Cole isn't that great. No hero should turn to genocide ever. I'm hoping Delsin can rise above Cole's penchant for mass death.

DragonKnight4504d ago

You guys must not have played inFAMOUS very much.

Cole was only depressed in the first game, and he had every reason to be. His future self pretty much destroyed his Present life, forced him to choose between the life of the woman he loved or doctors, and did everything he could to turn Cole into an unfeeling, emotionless weapon but it didn't work.

In the second game, Cole is much more upbeat and cocky. He accepts that he has to become stronger to destroy The Beast and that that is his mission. In the end, he has to make a choice between sacrificing his life to save people who could just as easily want him dead, or turn most of them into people that are just like him and change the world in a big way.

Cole's story is deep, personal, and he's an amazing character.

Delsin acts like a child who just found out he had super powers and no longer has to just vandalize buildings. He's clearly an attention whore meant to be Cole's polar opposite. I'm guessing the story involving him won't be as deep as Cole's and if it is, it will be so in a very different way.

That said, I'm super psyched for Second Son and March can't get here fast enough.

-Foxtrot4504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

@Baccra17

How was that Coles fault? That was Kessler who did that to him, another version of him.

@Akuma07

Every superhero ends up enjoying their powers, it gets stale after a while. For once we got a guy who hated them and destroyed his perfectly normal life, hell it cost him his job, his friends, the city he grew up in and the love of his life.

I think Delsins alright but I really don't think he'll be all that great, he just seems like a cocky punk who might grind on you if he dosen't change and become a better man

@Dragonknight

"I'm guessing the story involving him won't be as deep as Cole's and if it is, it will be so in a very different way."

Which is why I think we'll only see him for this game, I wouldn't mind if he died in the end.

It's probably why it's a spin off and not the third numbered entry.

jay24504d ago

No keep him gone! or make a new full game of him.

feraldrgn4504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

The only way I could see it being possible, without a retcon, is if it's...
[SPOILERS]

|
|
The antagonist from Infamous 1
or evil Cole

[/SPOILERS]

RytGear4504d ago

This isn't Neogaf, no black bars here.

feraldrgn4504d ago

Not supposed to be black bars, just a spoiler warning & a gap.

DragonKnight4504d ago

Kessler is Cole, so it wouldn't be him.

feraldrgn4504d ago

That was the point, but he was from the future, so he could always appear during Delsin's timeline I think.

DragonKnight4504d ago

No he can't. If you played the first game, you'd know that Kessler said that his time travel ability could only be done once and he couldn't even return to his own time let alone go to another time.

admiralvic4504d ago

"I could see it being possible, without a retcon, is if it's... "

There are plenty of reasons...

Alternate time lines, time travel (like someone goes back to save Cole and rewrites history), takes place in the past, "what if" story like Blood Festival, flash back, etc.

Now some might consider this a retcon, though a lot of these things were established in the previous games and could be reworked to explain what happened.

king_george4504d ago

Hell yes! Cole is freakin awesome i didnt wanna even see him go in the first place!! That evil ending in infamous 2 should have been the real deal. Epic possibilities with that ending

SilentNegotiator4504d ago

How in the heck are they going to approach that plot hole? You can't bring back Cole without confirming a "true" ending to inFamous 2.

maniacmayhem4504d ago

They brought back Superman, Jason Todd, Captain America, Batman, Barry Allen, Hal Jorden, Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, Jean Grey, Professor X, Martian Manhunter, .... you get the point.

Everything and anything is possible in the vast world of video game fiction.

SilentNegotiator4504d ago (Edited 4504d ago )

True, they can always just make some silly crap up to bring him back.

But reanimation stories tend to really suck. Superboy punching the universe and bringing back Jason Todd. F***ing LOL.

Thatguy-3104504d ago

Well they said they were going with the good ending of Infamous 2. In the good ending Cole dies but a lighting strikes which gave everyone the idea that he wasn't dead. I mean it's a comic book/superhero universe so I'm pretty positive he didn't die.

-Foxtrot4504d ago

They confirmed a while back they are making the good ending cannon

So basicaly that lightning bolt you saw strike Coles coffin in the form of a question mark is what they can use to bring him back.

We honestly don't know what conduits the ray sphere blast effected the most. I like to think it killed the ones who didn't know they were conduits and the ones who were man made in a lab. I think some of the powerful ones survived.

maniacmayhem4503d ago

"Superboy punching the universe and bringing back Jason Todd. F***ing LOL."

Thank you, I thought I was the only one that noticed that. Also Jason Todd died when he was a teen, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you don't age to an adult when you're dead.

They really need to

Go off the evil ending off Second Son

Delsin absorbs all those powers

Revealed he’s the real Beast and John in Infamous 2 was just an anomaly created by timelines being messed with by Kessler.

Cole vs the Real Beast

gold_drake688d ago

quite honestly, i dont remember a whole lot about 2 amymore, but i absolutely hated the guy in second son haha.

chicken_in_the_corn688d ago

It would make more sense to go off the evil ending of 2 and the good ending g of SS where Cole is The Beast.

Cacabunga687d ago

Doesnt make any sense calling second son 2 as infamous 3..

OtterX688d ago

Ha, yea Delsin was obnoxious.

I wouldn't mind another new character, but somehow bring Cole into the story.

We can just pretend like Delsin never existed. :)

thejigisup687d ago

Everyone that age is obnoxious. It's been years and is like to think delsin has grown

neutralgamer1992687d ago

Until we wait for a potential new entry it would awesome to have infamous collection for PS5

RaidenBlack687d ago

Umm ... how about this?
First we get the Tushima sequel(coz its most rumored)
Then a new Resistance (need new PS SP FPS)
Then a totally new IP (new IPs are always interesting)
And then a new inFamous?

Pepsi_Man3000687d ago

resistance is insomniac I think

xHeavYx687d ago

Can we also get a complete remaster of InFamous 1 and 2?

fr0sty687d ago

Gimme a new Warhawk and MAG while we're at it.

DivineHand125687d ago

I had a great time with the second son. Never got to play the originals and hope they get remastered one day.

DazaMc687d ago

The graphics were amazing, I got the platinum on that one. Very good.

ChasterMies687d ago (Edited 687d ago )

If I had a choice between another Infamous game and another Spider-Man game, I choose Spider-Man. Sony should spend its resources on its winners.

Tacoboto687d ago (Edited 687d ago )

Infamous was such a winner its studio was given the freedom (after 3 titles + their expansions) to do a new IP with GoT, just like with Sly Cooper before infamous.

I'd welcome a 4th title even more than another Spider-Man, it'd be exciting what they could do with new powers fit for the hardware outside the limits of a licensed superhero game.

jznrpg687d ago

Spider-Man is guaranteed and is made by Insomniac so why not both as Sucker Punch would make Infamous.
