nintendo has a bright future.

wonderfulmonkeyman4486d ago

Correction; they have a POTENTIALLY bright future.

They need to correct their mistakes going forward, most notably the lack of first party games and their god-awful amount of advertisement for major releases.

Heck, I feel that marketing things right just might make up the majority of the sales slack.
Hype sells, after all.

Of course, DS games on the Wii U might also be a boon.
Can't wait to see if they bring Dawn of Sorrow to the Wii U VC.....

RPG_Lover4486d ago

They were the number 1 game company in 2013. They essentially rule the industry.

Lack of first party games? They had more top rated games in 2013, than most companies combined.......

wonderfulmonkeyman4485d ago

I'm aware of their standing in 2013 and the ratings of the few first party games they put out, my friend.
I'm saying that those things weren't enough to increase the Wii U sales up to the amount that Nintendo themselves expected, and that they've still got work to do.
Not that they're failing or that they did nothing positive, just that they need to do better than they did last year, going forward.

I'm sure you've looked around the internet quite a bit, so you MUST have seen the posts by now; a lot of people are waiting for specific key first party titles to come out before they even TOUCH a Wii U.
Games that Nintendo, in my humble opinion, should have had ready for their first year on the market with the console.

An original Zelda[though Wind Waker WAS fantastic thanks to the improvements], a new Metroid, Star Fox, a new Mario in the same vein as Galaxy, Sunshine, and 64[that is, more open-ended with no goal poles or time limits, and vast open worlds with many objectives to complete, like the Paintings and stuff from Mario 64], and new entries from even more of their back catalog.
Do you know how many people would love to see a Kid Icarus sequel on the Wii U, if only for the twin stick method of controlling the camera and the better online multiplayer potential that the Nintendo Network ID's offers?

Be reasonable; they do have a lot of room for improvement going forward, and the Wii U's sales reflect that even if they DID do a fantastic job with the 3DS and the quality of the Wii U's more note-worthy games in 2013.

2014 is an incredibly important time for Wii U, dude.
That cannot be understated.

Few? It was over 10......

Wii U is not in that bad of a position where it cant make profit.

wonderfulmonkeyman4485d ago (Edited 4485d ago )

That's the thing, though; right now, it's NOT making profit.
Not enough to be truly notice-able at least.
It needs changes in order to do that, and the easiest changes would be to release more first party games that appeal to core gamers and increase advertisement to viral levels.

You're blowing my comments out of proportion.
I never said Nintendo's not in a position where the Wii U can't recover and therefore make profit; that's your defensive misinterpretation at work.
What I'm saying is that for the Wii U to sell itself enough to shut up all of the doom&gloom reports and silence the worst of Nintendo's investors, it needs to make some big moves.

I think Nintendos future is much more than games. I bet we see some sort of Disney collboration where Nintendo characters get their own movies, merch, and theme park presence. I wouldnt be surprised to see them also partner with a mobile platofrm company, either Appple or google, to bring a mobile type of experience to the Wii U. All this talk about quality of life experience coming fromboth Nintendo and Apple make me think there is some posturing going on behind the scenes. There are a lot of things Ninty can do to stay relevant in games industry and abroad. I think nintendo characters really have the appeal to transcend the barriers of video games.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer70d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot70d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno70d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay70d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno69d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK69d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
