Titanfall - The future is an online multiplayer plot?

IM PLAYIN takes a look at Titanfall and asks if an online-multiplayer story is the future of gaming.

"I seem to be in the minority these days that buys an FPS for the plot first and foremost, which in my mind is sad. I remember the days of the story being the primary driver behind buying a game, and while it was inevitable that multiplayer and then online multiplayer became higher and higher in importance, I never really thought there would be a day where single player campaigns would be removed altogether. The reason given by Respawn Entertainment for doing Online Multiplayer only is that the Chief felt that it tied up too many resources and personnel to create campaigns that only a limited few play."

I have Battlefield 4 Since November. And i have only played ten minutes of the campaign. I prefer if more games went multiplayer.

Agreed, there's no point in developers wasting their time on a 3 - 5 hour campaign that's forgettable and only 5% are actually completing. I'd rather the developers put all their efforts into the MP aspect of games (e.g. Battlefield, CoD, Titanfall, etc) and add as much content and polish it to perfection.

Well it depends. Spec-Ops rekindled my faith in having shooters with great stories and earlier Medal Of Honor games had fantastic setpieces. It's not impossible for an FPS to have a great campaign it's just developers are not trying hard at all........

They just need memorable characters and an enriching setting/plot. I mean I can't remember one character name in COD. Never played Battlefield so I wouldn't know. Now Halo...that's a campaign FPS games need to strive for.

The bad company games. Specifically the first one had a great story mode.

Why do people make these ridiculous ascertains coming off the heels of games like The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinte, Spec Ops The Line? All these games focus on the single player narrative and blow multiplayer focused games out of the water.

Its not a competition. Single player games excite me in different ways then multiplayer games. A great single play game doesn't blow a great multiplayer out of the water because they are 2 completly different types of experiences. I put 400 hours into skyrim but i also put 600 hours into WARHAWK, i enjoyed both of them and neither of them "blow eachother out of the water".

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."
