Why Alien: Isolation Won’t Be Another Colonial Marines Failure

OnlySP: Ever since Sega decided to appeal to the Western market by releasing games based on the Alien franchise, there has been a rather foul taste in gamers’ mouths. Aliens vs. Predators in 2007 left us certainly dissatisfied and Aliens: Colonial Marines last year turned our bored sighs into angry ones. Sega certainly have built up a poor reputation for themselves when it comes to the Alien franchise, and this has left many wondering why the upcoming Alien: Isolation should be any different? Here’s why you should have a little faith. Alien: Isolation may be published by Sega but it’s incredibly obvious that the developers have the passion and authenticity to make this game something fans of the films have been aching for. Let’s discuss.

Let's hope it won't be. CM was horrible.

Honestly at this point we just won't know untill it's release. No matter how good the trailers ans screens look we are best waiting untill the game comes out since Aliens CM managed to trick even journalists with previews that the game looked good as what they showed off.

That game really opened my eyes. I mean I've seen gameplay demos of levels that weren't used in games, such as the early previews for Mass Effect 1. But Bioware was very open about the fact that those levels wouldn't be in the final game, and it was more to show what the game would be like without spoiling it.

But I've never seen such deception, outright lies, and false advertisement from any game developer until Gearbox with Colonial Marines. Randy Pitchford is a thieving, lying sack of shit and I hope his future games fail. I will never purchase another game that is in any way tied to Gearbox or especially Randy.

After Colonial Marines the rest of the industry as well as gamers will have a hard time believing anything that Gearbox says, and I see the vast majority of people waiting until the reviews come out before giving them any money.

True, very true

I just hate how people are getting really hyped up by this like they know for a fact it's going to be amazing.

SEGA made out Aliens vs Predator was going to be amazing...it was average at best

SEGA and Gearbox made out Aliens CM was going to be the best Aliens game ever, all the hype, screenshots, gameplay videos we saw tricked us and it shows how you should not believe everything you see.

Now you think after that gamers would be smarter.....nope. It seems the cycle is happening all over again because of the "great" trailer and screenshots.

I'm not saying it's bad, I really want it to be good, if it is fantastic...finally a good Aliens game but the point is people are not being smart about this at all, it looks like they are doing what they did with Aliens CM even though the stuff we saw for Aliens CM looked amazing.

It just makes me think most people are idiots to be honest, know wonder most devs try to f*** us over....because they think they can.

can't blame great advertising department for a great/terrible game
IMO I bet the ad team was surprised by the badness

SpiralTear4494d ago

Considering how bad Colonial Marines was since it was first announced, I highly doubt this'll be anywhere near that bad.

I really hope that the games media doesn't blow smoke up this game ass like they did with colonial marines. They need to be hard on this game so the dev knows they can't pull the same shit GB pulled.

The Best Alien Games (To Play After Watching Alien: Earth)

An opinion piece on the best Alien games. From arcade Alien vs Predator action to a terrifying Xenomorph stalker, these are the best Alien video games starring Ridley Scott’s chestbursting, acid-blooded nightmare.

Got a soft spot for AvP (2010) but solid list nonetheless.

My favorite Aliens game also, having the three campaigns to play was great. Scaling walls as an alien waiting to ambush anyone that came too close.

Only played a little of the horde mode but was still fun.

Aliens Fireteam Elite was my GotY in 2021, single player was kinda bad but playing that game 3 player with friends was so good and really challenging on higher difficulties

Massive shout out to Aliens Vs predator 2 (2001), a dialup lag filled fun mess in multiplayer and 3 great campaigns

I played through most of the PS4 version of the game but stopped because another game came out. I bought it last year for PC with the intention of using the VR mod but haven't gotten around to setting it up. I am glad I waited.

Great game, even better in VR. A little drawn out by the end, but I hope we see CA do something a little different with the sequel.

OtterX360d ago (Edited 360d ago )

Sweet. I also rebought this game on Steam for the purpose of VR. I'll have to give it another shot w full immersive controls. I had only tried it out briefly before.

It's funny this was never officially released at retail as a VR game, bc it feels so perfect for it!

10 Years Ago, Alien: Isolation Came Close to Being The Perfect Organism

The Alien franchise has had a long history in video games, but few games have come quite as close to being perfect as Alien: Isolation.
