Windows XP SP3 Adds 10% Performance Boost, Tests Show

Researchers said Windows XP Service Pack 3 delivers a measurable performance boost when compared with Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Windows XP runs some applications up to 10% faster with the latest service pack installed, a research firm has found.

"We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (v.3244) delivers a measurable performance boost to this aging desktop OS," wrote staff at exo.performance.network, in a blog post.

Good to hear. I will be upgrading soon when I get around to it.

Drekken6573d ago

I heard it was more like 15%, but 10% is still good and worth the upgrade!

decapitator6573d ago

Oh good. Even better. Thanks for letting me know this.

Kakkoii6573d ago

It depends on how updated you were.

If your a person who stuck with a stock version of XP.. Then it's a huge boost.

If your a person who had all the newest update.. Then the booster wasn't as big.

But there is still a boost none the less, which is great for me and ma gaming :P

Where can I download it? Or can I just wait until it's on the Automatic updates?

Upgrading right now. XP is the best OS I've ever used, I downgraded VIsta to XP, best decision ever.

wow4u6573d ago

Actually, Vista SP1 performs just as well for videogames as XP SP3.

Oh, and I downgraded XP to Windows 3.11, best decision I ever made.

NarsilianShard6573d ago

I love SP3! It used to take my laptop about 5-10 seconds to connect to the internet after hibernating, now it connects instantly!

uie4rhig6573d ago

cool.. now just find a way to stop that ignorant "Internal Error" error when i try to install it <_<

NRG6573d ago

I didn't notice any speed improvements, but 10% might be too small for me to really notice even if it is there. Either way, I'm not complaining... I've had absolutely no trouble installing and haven't encountered a single conflict or system instability.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing12d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit12d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing12d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
