Initial WiiWare impressions from the Globe & Mail

Globe & Mail game blogger checks out WiiWare and offers thoughts on three of its launch games. From the story:

"The Wii's Virtual Console store, which has delivered more than 200 classic titles over the last 18 months for Nintendo's svelte gaming machine, has been widely acknowledged as a boon for older players with warm and fuzzy memories of the games they played while growing up during the infancy of consoles.

Alas, it hasn't done much to appease Nintendo fans who covetously gaze at the steady stream of original and exclusive downloadable games that have appeared on other consoles over the last couple of years, such as PlayStation 3's wonderfully wacky physics experiment Pain and the Xbox 360's popular puzzler Switchball.

That envy may now be consigned to history thanks to Monday's North American launch of WiiWare, a new online service that is dedicated to delivering original and exclusive games for Nintendo's popular console."

I don't quiet get who it's directed at. General player? Sure, I can believe them not knowing some of the less popular final fantasy games. But final fantasy FANS? There is nothing forgotten about these games.

Top 20 WiiWare Games (20-11)

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "This past week, Nintendo announced that after more of a decade they would be shutting down the Wii Shop Channel. Many gamers (myself included) have found memories of taking our Wii consoles online, putting in our Wii Point Card numbers and downloading a whole bunch of classic Nintendo, Sega and NEC titles onto the Wii system. But the Wii Shop Channel was also home to a whole catalogue of new games that made up the system’s WiiWare service. It was here that many of the system’s smaller and more experimental titles came into being and many of the developers that brought us these games are now responsible for big indie series’ thanks to their original success on WiiWare. So as a sort of goodbye to Nintendo’s original download service, we’re counting down the Top 20 Best WiiWare games starting with numbers 20 through 11 today (check back next Friday for 10 -1)."
