Announcing Construct 2 support for Wii U

Ashley: "Scirra are proud to officially announce upcoming support for Nintendo’s Wii U™ system. Nintendo-authorised developers will be able to create and self-publish games on the Nintendo eShop using Construct 2, the leading HTML5 game creation tool. This is a tremendously exciting step towards making game development for major consoles faster, easier and available to a wider audience of developers than ever before. It's also a sign of the strength of HTML5 as a console-grade game development platform and the cross-platform breadth of web technologies."

A little late to the party, eh Ninty? Hopefully some developers latch on and bulk up their online library in Eshop.

Yep4412d ago

Late to the party? Wii U is the only console that supports it.

JohnnyTower4412d ago

Allowing developers to self publish on their Eshop? Playstation and Xbox both have that via Spark and Playstation Network.

No, shut up. It's Nintendo, of course EVERYTHING they make is wrong.

WRONG I TELL YOU!!!!

@JohnnyTower: I think he's talking about Construct 2 specifically. Wii U seems to be the first home console to support it.

@Johnny

Indie developers have been able to self-publish on Wii U for months now. Nintendo actually is more indie friendly than Sony or Microsoft. Indie devs get a free unity license when the become Nintendo developers.

@Johnny

He's talking about the Construct 2. The Wii U is the only console that supports it as of now.

@Acesonall... Shhhh! Don't tell everyone.... People want to bash on the Wii u's lack of content and support. What would they do if they knew there were over 700 indie developers currently on the nintendo developer portal?

zalanis4412d ago

Wait what!? I thought only pc's could do html5

BosSSyndrome4412d ago

Well I can't say im an expert but i do know that html5 is how the wii u browser plays video.

wonderfulmonkeyman4412d ago

Nice to see some good news for once.
Looks like the Wii U can handle way more than people once thought in terms of engine variety.

jdevcaelistis4412d ago

Yes the wii u supports html 5. In fact it handles it really really well. I can port a game I made in html 5 to the wii u in 10 minutes. It also supports unity... Also nintendo is giving their development kits out deferred for a year with 6 months to return it for free. They also partnered up with unity to give the license out for free. So maybe an intelligent mind could see what nintendo is doing for the gaming industry.

Construct 2 is brilliant and this is great news!

Customizable Animated Game Characters - InDee Toons

InDee Toons is a library of customizable animated 2D game characters for indie developers.
The project is currently live on the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

The project allows anybody to create their own unique animated game characters in a few clicks, similar to how a paper doll works, which doesn't require any artistic skills and is a lot of fun.

On top of being provided as premade sprite packs, the toons can be freely customized by exchanging parts between different characters and by making use of the unique custom head generator every toon comes with.

As soon as the funding goal is reached, backers of the Kickstarter will decide what themes they want to have for the additional characters that are not yet created.

InDee Toons brings billions of different combinations, so you can have the actors of your game tailored to your needs without having to hire an artist.

I remember seeing this, but seeing it as a developer, it would only be useful for people who are practicing making games.

God forbid if people used this in actual games for sale; it's like when all of them crappy GoAnimate animations were made on Youtube.

Wow!
If the customization is as promised, this is definitely worth a try.

Indie Graphics Builder - Create Sprite Assets

The Indie Graphics Builder enters its final stage of development, before coming to Steam, by crowd-funding on Kickstarter. The IGB is a comprehensive "Build your own" graphics suite for indie developers.

The graphics are meant for use with any 2D compatible game engine.

"For way less then the price you'd pay an artist to make graphics for your game, with IGB, you can create animations, characters, spaceships, maps, platforms, puzzles, icons, menu's, by yourself."

If stretch goals are met, the Indie Graphics Builder will feature 30,000 graphics in many genre's and styles. Kickstarter backers won't have to wait long. They will receive 10,000 assets soon after the Kickstarter's end.
