Threespeech.com got some answers out of PlayStation conserning online user name, backwards compatibility, data transfer and more.
ONLINE USERNAMES
Online, it'll be one user name for all games. You'll get a master ID once you are registered. On some games, you'll be able to set up your own buddy list. If you meet someone playing one of these games, you'll be able to transfer them to your master buddy list. The thinking being that not everyone you're playing Resistance: Fall Of Man with is necessarily someone you'll be communicating with about other things.
BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY
Phil Harrison has confirmed that backwards compatibility will be achieved via hardware, not software. As long as a game meets TRC guidelines there'll be no issues – and this will be the case with 99% of games. No firmware update will be required.
DATA TRANSFER
The easiest way at present to transfer data from a PC to a PS3 is to burn in onto DVD, or use a memory stick or USB hard drive.
DOWNLOADING PS1 TITLES
Phil Harrison has also said that, from day one on the PS3, you'll be able to download PS1 titles from the store onto the hard drive. These will only be playable on a PSP to start with in North America and Japan, but will work directly on a PS3 from the off in Europe.

Sony is in the middle of an FPS crisis, but bringing back two much-loved PlayStation shooters could easily be the solution.
I honestly don't think we'll be seeing these anytime soon, if ever. Insomniac is officially on Marvel duty since it seems that all they're working on based off the leaks, and Horizon is more of what the casuals want these days. And I now I'll get a bunch of disagrees, but keep in mind that Resistance last got a game on the PS3 (2011) and Killzone was a launch title for the PS4 (2013). 10 years is a long time to make a game, if had any interest they would've done it by now, add InFamous to that list.
Resistance 3 turned me off to the series but I’d love a reboot. KillZone I think can stay dead. Give me a new Resistance like 1or 2 and I’ll be happy.
I honestly never cared or liked killzone. Huge resistance fan though. I remember so many nights playing melee only on USS Lexington, and I like the alt history vibe.

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

While it's been on ice for as long as it was around, the Resistance franchise has no shortage of quality.
My take:
Single player
3, 2, 1
Multiplayer
3, 1, 2
Overall
3, 2, 1
I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.
Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.
There are only a few people that I like to have on my "master" Live buddy list. I am always hesitant to put random people that I only see in one particular game on my list. If you can had multiple lists and link them together it will work.
It sounds much better than having different ID's and buddy lists for each game at least =)
There dies the "zomglol 1 buddy list per game sux lolol"
Pretty cool that PS1 games will be playable on PS3 for the european launch i'd say
...the truth was enforced and another MS statement bites the dust.
And, well, backwards compatibility via hardware ! yay!
I like the "no firmware update required" haha
