Okay so I was perusing Kotaku, as some of us do, and a particular article shot right out and hit me head on.

It depends on what the hate is for...

If it was for something like the whole Microsoft reveal with the Xbox One including DRM and the like, the Sim City DRM, the Mass Effect 3 ending, franchises like Dead Space 3, Resident Evil or dmc straying away from it's roots while one dev, NT, calls a franchises fans or a developer shoving things we don't like down our throat like what Square Enix do with FF13...then I guess it's fine to hate on them since they brought it on themselfs

yea I agree with you 100%.

"Haters Hating On Game Developers Needs To Stop"

Some Men Just Want to Watch the World Burn

but anyway some developers need some valid criticism about their job
and i really hate how some think there is no "lazy developers" because they is indeed lazy developers who need alot of criticism

abradley4515d ago

@Ezz2013

I know as many do that some developers can be lazy but slapping them with vile abuse isn;t the cure.

Hard to argue with criticism isn't filled with abuse, its filled with hard facts and possible improvements.

abradley4515d ago

No that's the problem. Why should you call out them, their families and throw out abuse because they did something bad or not up to your standard?

If a friend bought you a meal from a chippy rather than the Chinese you asked for, would you immediately start threatening to rape his mother if he didn't correct his mistake? I would bloody hell hope not.

As the developer said, if something is wrong, say so but do it without chucking useless and degrading language at them for it. Mistakes are made everyday, they learn from them as do we.

-Foxtrot4515d ago (Edited 4515d ago )

Not everyone calls there family mate, not everyone acts the same. Your saying everyone should just take whatever the throw at us when most of the time devs f*** us over just because a bunch of us do over the top....sorry but no I don't think so.

Mistakes are learnt everyday

Dead Space 3 didn't learn from Capcoms mistakes with Resident Evil 6, Capcom didn't learn from their mistake after Residetn Evil 5. Microsoft didn't learn after the Sim City DRM, Mass Effect 3 didn't learn from Dragon Age 2s crappy writting....and so on and so on

Your basically saying we can't say anything because of a bunch of people going over the top. Sorry but if they mess up I'm going to tell them, other people might go to the extreme but thats their problem not mine.

abradley4514d ago

@Foxtrot, Please read my words before presuming what I said.

What I actually said was, be respectful when you make your complaints. The developer himself acknowledges that if you don't say something about a problem, like the ME 3 ending, you won't get it sorted. But doing it by slagging off everybody man and women in the team gets you nowhere and causes more harm than at first glance.

There is no reason why we have to act like religious zealots in defence of our own private beliefs. Show some respect man, and if you have a problem with something, say so, in the Queens English. That is exactly what I've said about four times now. Good day.

And in the same token praise where its not due or hasn't been earned needs to stop as well.

Godmars2904515d ago

Everything announced and not yet released.

Team_Litt4515d ago

What if it has been played though? Are people not allowed to enjoy it and say so even if it has not released?

DarkBlood4515d ago

well if the developrs and said company don't see the excitement will they not consider or forsee such product as a failure?

i admit the statement i made seems to contradict but its just ends up being a loop

Godmars2904515d ago

Because the guys pushing Aliens: Colonial Marines where only honest and upfront with their game. Needed to receive positive feedback rather than generate excessive hype they had no plans delivering on.

Think the only time devs begged fans for approval was Megaman Legends 3. A game which Capcom canceled with a middle finger to boot.

abradley4515d ago

I agree with you to some extent but at the same time, abuse is making some people kill themselves over words some thoughtless idiot sent over an email.

I would say the haters are doing more damage that praise, though praise should be kept until you can experience a decent chunk of the game in question.

KingDadXVI4515d ago

This article is pretty much spot on. It is more than fine to point out problems with a game or your opinion even if it is negative. On the other hand it is not appropriate to denigrate other people.

If you can't make a valid criticism about something without degenerating to insults then you are nothing more than a bully.

abradley4515d ago

Thanks KingDadXVI, that's exactly the point. Abuse gets us nowhere and if we really want something to improve we need to be honest in a respectful way.

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman43d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
