For serious chess players, there is no joy greater than seeing your opponent’s face squirm as he looks into the board and senses the beginning of his demise. It is a glorious, glorious moment indeed.

Battle Chess. Even the name evokes a certain imagery, a certain feel, full of knights and bishops and pawns beating the living daylights out of each other. And if you played the original 1988 smash hit game for PC, you'll also have the mental image of two queens engaging in a slap-fight, mid-board.
If you didn't play the original game, you may be about to receive a second chance, with Subdued Software announcing plans to bring the game back - and how else, but via Kickstarter.

DSOGaming writes: "Subdued Software has announced that Battle Chess is coming to the downloadable universe in 2011. This classic Interplay game brought the standard chess board to life. Subdued Software will develop Battle Chess and bring it into the 21st century with stunning visuals and clever animations. Many Chess games have tried to mimic the originality of Battle Chess but none have come close to matching the acclaim of this groundbreaking title."
I like they say "possibly ported" to other platforms and yet just above it they say "unlockable character battles, as well as achievements and trophies." That pretty much screams its coming to PS3 and 360.

Joystiq: "Interplay's classic Battle Chess will return in a reboot this summer for PC and iOS. Developed by Subdued Software, the PC version is expected to make moves in August, with the iOS versions for iPad and iPhone available "soon after." A company rep informs us that they only have screens of the game currently available, but will show off some character battle animations next month."
Not wanting to sound too much like a geek but I loved the original Battle Chess, it was too funny watching Knights slice people up lol
