Zelda games have often fallen victim to incredibly hyped launches, which seems to set expectations ridiculously high for every Zelda game."

Nintendo's classic action-adventure game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, is set to receive a fanmade port for the Sega Dreamcast.

Gary Green said: Being a writer exclusively for PlayStation is immensely rewarding, yet it does have its drawbacks. It was easy enough to distance myself from the ever decreasing number of Xbox exclusives, yet parting ways with Nintendo was hard, and it only got harder over time. Sooner or later, I knew I'd be back, and as I frantically search for the most efficient and cost-effective ways to play the Nintendo classics which I've missed out on over the years, revisiting the best of the best comes first.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out during a time where every console had its charms. Whether you were team Sega, Nintendo, or Sony, everyone knew the game's potential, and the players who invested in Nintendo's chunky N64 console were not disappointed. Like Sega's ill-fated Saturn, it may have been a console which lacked in quantity of games, but the quality was certainly there.
Ocarina of Time was a game that was hard to put down. We would bounce home excitedly from high school, ready to wander the lands of Hyrule once again to find another secret or two, before preparing ourselves to tackle that next intimidating dungeon. It's time to retell this story. Ready your ocarina.
Yes, this is one of the true masterpieces that I believe every core gamer should play.
It even holds up to this day.

Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
"Zelda games have often fallen victim to incredibly hyped launches, which seems to set expectations ridiculously high for every Zelda game"
It happens to the majority of games though, look at GTA4 for example before it came out, the hype for the game was huge and even I was sucked into it. Resident Evil 5 was another one because of the success of RE4 before it and even Final Fantasy 13.
Fact is brand name is a key factor when it comes to hype and the older, more nostalgic the franchise is the more people will be hyped by it. If the game comes out and either ends up not being that good or is more of less the same as past games in the franchise, yet gets amazing reviews then later on through the year your going to be thinking to yourself "What the hell went on there".
I've said before in another article that Skyward Sword, to me, didn't live up to past main Zelda titles especially when the last game before it was the brilliant Twilight Princess, yet the game got amazing reviews and almost perfect scores across the board.
Hell it even happens to less known games, take Devil May Cry for example. When dmc came out it got great reviews even though it was a huge downgrade to past DMC games. If your game dosen't live up to a past game which got good reviews how can you give good reviews and praise to the next installment which is inferior. These things never make sense. It's why it's never about the game when it comes to most reviews it goes on factors, the main one being "How big is this franchise". Look at the hate the GI reviewer got for his honest 7.5 review for Skyward Sword, the review made sense, had great points to back his given score up and if you back on it with the faded hype you'll see his was the most reasonable....point is do you really think after all that other big sites want that kind of backlash...no they don't and thats a problem with reviews. It feels like most of the time the bigger the franchise the more scared reviewers are to give it an honest score when it ends up being a disappointment or not living up to the past games.
"On the reverse side, Skyward Sword was so hyped that when the initial game came out, some fans felt a little disappointed. Despite high reviews, fans still seem to complain about all of its shortcomings, rather than praising it for all of the innovative ideas that it brought to the table."
It was disappointing though, it was hyped and it was disappointing. Twilight Princess was hyped and it was great. I mean the only innovative ideas it had was the motion controls most people didn't like because they were forced into it.
I loved Skyward Sword
unveiling, fans hate it, hyped more, people think it will be the best, people turn out to love it, repeat.
A great game is like sex. You want it so bad you'd kill for it. When the moment is close, you're anxious as all hell. Then, when you're finally there and being part of the moment - you realize the fun was in the anticipation and not the actual event. The next morning, you drag that lifeless body---er game into the woods, dig a hole and bury them...er the game in that hole and hope no one comes a looking for her...er the game. Then...rinse and repeat.
