PSX Extreme: Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity Preview

PSX Extreme writes: ""Code Lyoko" is one of those TV series that has a loyal cult following but if you're outside of that circle of fans, you might be easily confused. It actually combines standard animation with fairly advanced CGI, and the premise features Kadic Junior High and the students' ongoing battle with Xana, an evil supercomputer. No, we didn't make this up. In some ways, it reminds us of the concept we found in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, where high school students entered a parallel dimension through a tower at night, but we're relatively certain that Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity is a completely different type of game. Coming in June, Neko Entertainment has prepared this port for the PSP and PS2 (it was a Wii title in 2007), and players will switch back and forth between a 2D world - where you check your equipment and items and prepare for battle - and the 3D world, which is, of course, inside Lyoko. Xana created this false world, ala "The Matrix," in order to take over and rule the real world. Really, it's not too complex."

PSX Extreme: Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity Review

PSX Extreme writes: "The PS2 is still going strong, but it's not due to the teen-oriented titles based on Japanese anime. Or in this case, French animation. Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity is yet another in a long line of futuristic cartoons designed to appeal to a certain age group, and while Neko Entertainment wanted to embrace a few good ideas, they fell far short in execution. We perfectly understand that budgets for such games aren't very high, but if you can't make something better than this, there's little point to entering the production phase. The action/adventure genre is the largest and therefore the most extraordinarily competitive category in the industry, and Code Lyoko isn't able to compete with any solid PS2 action/adventure game that already sits on store shelves for a budget price. It's too bad. As we just said, the theory and concept is sound and could've made for a highly entertaining and even unique experience. But with several crippling drawbacks, the final result is ultimately disappointing."

Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity Review at CheatCC

CheatCC says: "Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity is incredibly formulaic. The game features a very short mix of running, jumping, attacking, and nothing else. It's playable and the mechanics work well, but it still loses major points for being no fun."

IGN: Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity Review

Code Lyoko fans: if you're tragically desperate to play a Code Lyoko game, IGN suppose you could rent this one, but they wouldn't recommend it. This title just can't overcome its many mechanical problems and the overall experience isn't satisfying.
