'Dying Light' on PS4 will bring 'light bar and touchpad support'

Dying Light will be yet another game that is cross-generational, but what sorts of differences will we see with this game on current-generation consoles versus the PS4 and Xbox One?

Dying Light producer Tymon Smektala recently talked about the differences players will see between the next-generation versions of the game versus current-generation versions, as well as how they will be utilizing various peripheral console features.

Light bar support sounds questionable. Since not everyone has the camera (I would say more people don't have the camera than do), what kind of feature are you going to make that only a certain percentage of PS4 users will be able to take advantage of. I am one of those people who don't have the camera and don't plan on purchasing it anytime soon.

lashes2ashes4537d ago

They mean the light bar changing colours like killzone not move like features.

Eonjay4537d ago

Dying Light.... dying light bar... dying battery :)

thekhurg4537d ago

I've never once noticed the light bar on Killzone changing colors, but I also don't stare at the front of my controller while playing.

I really wish we could turn it off in the system options.

Neonridr4537d ago

Hmm, I think I'll pass on my controller changing colours then. Does it go red if I'm getting attacked?

No offense but that sounds kinda pointless..

PSN-JeRzYzFyNeSt4537d ago

light bar support like, it turns red when you get shot, ect..

Volkama4537d ago

Probably. I'd rather "lightbar support" meant an option in the menus to turn the thing off.

PSN-JeRzYzFyNeSt4537d ago

doesn't bother me I'm to focused on my game

Volkama4537d ago (Edited 4537d ago )

Depends on your playing environment. My Samsung plasma reflects light sources like a mirror if the scene and room are dark.

I'd like to turn the stupid lights off on the Kinect and Xbox too. They don't reflect, but they're in my eye-shot and annoy me.

nategrigs4537d ago

I have a super reflective Panasonic plasma myself, so I was worried about this too, but honestly haven't really noticed it. Maybe I hold my controller at an angle that isn't pointing directly at the screen? Either way, the light is pointless and only serves to drain the battery in my opinion.

Volkama4537d ago

Can see the description of the feature now.

"Get immersed in the game like never before! With flashing red lightbar the zombies bring their attacks into the palms of your hands!".

:)

I personally wanted a better graphics or 60fps though I'm sure it'll look better then X1 anyways.

nategrigs4537d ago

Theres ps4 gameplay out there that looks pretty good. Why is it so important that it looks better then on xbone?

Nail134537d ago (Edited 4537d ago )

because we paid more for the PS4 ohh wait.. nope..

It's just tech comparison reasons. It's the same content, excited to see:

8GBGDDR5 VS 5GBDDR3 (set for games)

GamingNerd0134537d ago

Cause well it has better specs and there 4 I want to play it to its best it can be.

XisThatKid4537d ago

Because he/she made a personal choice to fight the console war and socially it is important to them. Or it is because they did not buy an X1 over a PS4 and hope they bought the winning console in this field.

Funny how the comment section is used for questioning other comments these days. Just like him before me you have the same valued reasons to comment on his/her comment though and then mine in return I guess.

nategrigs4537d ago

Not sure if I can reply to myself here, but I wanted to clear something up. I am a ps4 guy all the way. In fact, I think that the MS offering this gen is pretty insulting.

Having said that, I don't understand the need to rub it in. I don't think that those that bought an xbone should be taunted at every opportunity because they are playing the game in 900p and we have 1080p (or whatever the graphical difference is). Its getting old and comes off as mean spirited

They both will look good. Probably will look the same since its multiplat.

Nail134537d ago (Edited 4537d ago )

The touchpad kills the battery, not so much the LED.

And am happy they have a touchpad. Phones, laptops, tablets, PSVita and Nintendo systems all have touch pads. It's confusing that the XboxOne did not get a touch pad also.

I knew holding off playing it for 10 years was the right call.

ocelot07326d ago

I remember playing this for the first time on the PS4 and it knocking me sick and hurting my eyes due to the horrible motion blur and FPS.

Played it a lot on pc a year later. Then again on ps5 once they dropped the 60fps update. I'll be giving it another go. Mad how they have kept updating this game for 10 years.

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.

Looking Back At The $386,000 Dying Light 'My Apocalypse Edition', 10 Years Later

It has been more than ten years since Dying Light was released, but what happened to the $386,000 'My Apocalypse Edition' of the game?

Nobody bought it for an obvious reason.

Gamingsince1981455d ago

Wtf did this edition come with ? A real helicopter and a real zombie virus ?

Vithar455d ago

For one lucky person willing to spend $386,000, the My Apocalypse Edition of Dying Light promised a staggering collection. It included the buyer’s face in the game, a human-sized ‘Volatile’ statue, and parkour lessons with a freerunning team. It also came with night vision goggles, an all-expenses paid round trip to Techland’s offices, and four signed copies of the game. Oh, and it also came with a custom-built, ‘zombie-proof’ survival shelter.

LOL but it was a stunt from the team:
‘It was a PR stunt and got a lot of media attention for its wild and over-the-top nature, it was designed to generate buzz around the game’s release. It did a great job of getting the game noticed, though! But nobody purchased it – thankfully, I guess!’
