No, Xbox One DRM Isn’t Killing Killer Instinct

LG "I’ve seen a number of worrying reports that Xbox One’s DRM is actually still there, and has been causing issues with Killer Instinct tournaments. It is however, a problem that’s being misreported. Xbox One DRM isn’t killing Killer Instinct."

I love my Xbox One. It's on all day between myself the kids and my wife.

malokevi4547d ago

Don't lie, your wife spends 12 hours a day playing Battlefield 4. :D

lastofgen4547d ago

I love battlefield 4...but that only happens like less than half the time.

Rest of the time is me pulling my hair out due to crashes and asinine glitches.

malokevi4547d ago

lol, touche.

I think I inadvertently made this thread about BF4 bugs :S oops.

SilentNegotiator4547d ago

What does that have to do with this article?

Bigpappy4546d ago

We could ask the same about you question, and mine of course.

NYC_Gamer4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

Its crazy because sites were so eager for hits they just ignored/forgot the fact that this type of drm already existed since last gen and now on current gen.

twinspectre4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

Facts ???
what the heck are you talking about ?
i can play with my PS3 and PS4 without a Internet Connection

lastofgen4547d ago

It's written right there in the article.

Here->
"Yes, it’s DRM, but it’s the same sort of DRM that you’ll find on the Xbox 360 right now. Or the PS3, or PS4 for that matter. The Xbox One in question here, was not the one originally used to download the game, you see. If it were, the game would have been tied to that console’s ID (and the originating profile), and would never need to check for licences, functioning just fine without an internet connection. It’s actually more lax DRM than on the 360, which requires that the original purchaser be actively signed in for the game to be playable.

What it seems to be, is a case of the tournament organisers downloading the game to multiple consoles from a few originating profiles – and then not making sure that the console’s had authenticated the game for use in time. If each console playing the game had bought the game’s Season Pass (to get all the characters) then it wouldn’t have happened."

I don't know if it works that way on ps3 or ps4, but they are accurate as to how it works on the xbox 360.

admiralvic4546d ago

@ Lastofgen

The PS3 (4 was designed to avoid this problem) does a 1 time activation before you download anything and once completed, the activation is with you. This lead to a lot of people abusing the deactivation system online and using that to get 4 shares out of 2 (since deactivating remotely doesn't remove your activations). Now, removing the account, letting it expire (PS Plus) and things of this nature will also take the activations away and prevent the content from working. However, as long as you have the activation and the system thinks you're still activated on that account, games will work. That is, unless they work like Final Fight and have additional DRM.

christocolus4547d ago

I ignored the article cos i never experienced that myself. People need to get more info before reporting such.

Elit3Nick4546d ago

What did you expect, it was MariaHelFutura that posted the article on here.

christocolus4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

So much for drm.. lol.

@malokevi

Saw some of your posts on some other site....lmao.

hankmoody4547d ago

There are definitely issues with the XB1 online component currently. I couldn't even get a multiplayer match in on Peggle 2 yesterday for Christ's sake.

XboxFun4546d ago (Edited 4546d ago )

I got on MariaHelFutura for submitting flame bait articles from no name sites but at least this same person can clarify and submit articles that admit it was nothing more than BS.

I wonder if all the sony fanboys in the other article who kept screaming "MS and PRISM" or "MS is bringing back DRM" will come in here and wipe the egg off their faces?

Probably not, they're too busy waiting for the next BS article to surface so they can pounce on it and declare victory without any credible sources.

@Blackmanone
Yes I brought it up because it needs to be said. You want to see spiteful check out the last article this is based on and see the hate pouring out from the non-sensible majority of members that make up this site.
Then come back to me and try to just single me out for pointing out the obvious.

blackmanone4546d ago

Dude, why so spiteful? No one brought any of that up except for you.

JokesOnYou4546d ago

XboxFun but this is typical n4g...If it's negative Xbox news just run with it, when proven false just move on, ignoring how fooolish it was and wait like a vulture for the next BS anti xbox news thread.

givemeshelter4546d ago

Welcome to N4G.COM....
This site is only good for comedy now. Just come here for a laugh or two because to take this site seriously as a "gaming news" site is laughable at best.
This site lose its credibility many years ago.
Only come here to laugh a few times and move on

rainslacker4546d ago (Edited 4546d ago )

If the articles come that actually cause the egg to break on their faces...still waiting...then don't hold your breath.

This recanting has nothing to do with the other things you mentioned. And MS has been proven to be complicit with PRISM, so I doubt there will be any eggs on faces.

As far as DRM, I'm skeptical, but don't really believe MS would try to bring it back in it's original form. Of course, I also said they wouldn't be stupid enough to try in the first place when all of this was rumor before the reveal.

BTW, I wasn't one to go saying KI had the original DRM in it. If it had, we would have heard about it within the first week as people would have been trying to see if it was really gone as soon as it released. Not almost a month later, at a tournament, using a digital game, which isn't where the problem with MS DRM policies laid.

XboxFun4546d ago

"This recanting has nothing to do with the other things you mentioned."

It has everything to do with what I mentioned. Go into the other article where it first was reported and notice certain fanboys going off and bringing up PRISM/NSA that has nothing to do with the supposed DRM in KI.

"And MS has been proven to be complicit with PRISM,"

Because they were ordered to by the government the same as Google, Apple and any other company in the US. And how does this affect the gamer? It doesn't, it's just another tool sony fanboys use to further their agenda. It's the same as "8 gigs of RAM", "FCC report" and "hUMA". Anything non gaming related to argue and down the Xbox One.

A lot of people on this site want the DRM back, hoping it comes back, looking out for any news about the DRM so they can point the finger and say I told you so.

rainslacker4546d ago

So what if they did mention it in the other article? Does that mean that MS wasn't complicit in the whole PRISM thing? Did MS not write a back door into their software for the NSA? They didn't have to do that. The US gov't can not compel the company to do such a thing, and should they have tried, MS would have been well within their right to take it to court, regardless of national security clauses.

If there are Sony fan boys out there that want DRM to come back so they can say "I told you so", then they are as idiotic as the Xbox fan boys who want the DRM to come back, defended it while it was around, and never wanted it to be taken out in the first place. The DRM MS announced was harmful to both the industry and the gamer, and in no way should it ever come back.

People that bring up this stuff do so because it's ammo. But the ammo isn't made out of thin air. It shows a bad precedence on the part of MS. The fact that you and those like you try at every opportunity to defend it, or sweep it under the rug, or try to misdirect the conversation by equating one thing to these instances is just blind fanboyism, and it's not a good thing because it's how companies get to a point where they don't have to be held accountable for their actions.

Killer Instinct: The Most Underrated Fighting Video Game in History

Killer Instinct is like the forgotten cousin at the fighting game family reunion.

Michiel1989406d ago

yeah they were such good and fun games but they never really reached the mainstream audience. Killer Instinct was widely known and respected.

Cacabunga406d ago

Killer instinct is great, especially on snes but it’s not the most underrated fighter.. for me it’s Power Stone. So much potential in this series

Jawsh666406d ago

Bloody Roar was a game that had a sick concept but wasn’t made the best. I’d say Killer Instinct was the opposite of that, it was well made but the roster of characters were so similar to every other fighting game in that era that it ended up feeling like more of the same. I could be wrong that’s just how I remember it at the time and I played a ton of KI on SNES because it was one of the first games I owned.

PRIMORDUS406d ago

I loved this game in the arcade, my main was Jago, Ultra Combo!!! https://www.youtube.com/wat...

DivineHand125405d ago

That combo was way overkill 😂

PRIMORDUS405d ago

I know haha, I loved Jago.

Bathyj406d ago

You're kidding?
It enjoyed probably more success than it deserved.
Unlike Tobal 2

MeteorPanda405d ago

Tobal 2 was awesome. Sold really well cause art similarity to dragon ball

jjb1981406d ago

I remember trying my hardest to learn that "Ultra... Ultra.... Ultra...." finish. Such a great fighting game.

Popsicle405d ago (Edited 405d ago )

I can tell you definitely got some SNES time in. The slight differences in the ports due to hardware constraints were interesting. For example, the arcade version was Ultraaaa Coooommboooooooo! versus Ultra….Ultra….Ultra on the SNES.

Though SNES overachieved as a port for as demanding as a game KI was.The arcade version was one of the first cabinets with a dedicated hard drive and the SNES version was 32 megabyte cartridge which was huge for that system at the time.

jjb1981404d ago

Yeah, for sure. My local childhood arcade was always packed and it was hard to get a game in but once the SNES version came out, I was hooked. I can still feel the click of the power button.

Barlos914d ago

I'll have to get this! Been a big fan of KI since the very first one.

Petebloodyonion914d ago (Edited 914d ago )

I love KI (still play the old arcade version) but feel like the Xbox version is like a big intimidating chessboard with no easy way to instruct you to play chess.
The game is so deep in terms of little things to do that it makes Smash Bros melee look like a casual experience.
Honestly, doing a combo Breaker is punish/reward by itself but hey you can add a counterbreaker.
Here's what you also need to know
Breaking Shadow-linker
Instincts
Shadow counter
Auto double,
linker, manual
ender
etc,

There isn't going to be any chance of this being played at tournaments unless it appears on all platforms like all fighting games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH918d ago

SF5 didn’t appear on all consoles and was still played at Tournaments. I’ve seen KI tournaments recently so I don’t think your opinion is accurate.
