Sony's PlayStation 3 was late to the next-gen console party in Australia, arriving three months after the Wii's local release and a full year after the Xbox 360's launch. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCEA) seem to be more than happy with its performance so far, however, saying that the PS3 has sold 238,000 units down under since its debut in March 2007.
The 238,000 figure comes from SCEA directly and not from official industry trackers GfK Australia (who do not include bundle deals such as Sony's PS3 giveaway with Bravia televisions in late 2007/early 2008 in their figures). The last official count from GfK featured figures for the end of 2007, which had the PS3 at 155,000 units sold, compared to more than 300,000 for the Wii and 306,000 for the Xbox 360. In February this year, SCEA head Michael Ephraim told GameSpot AU that more than 28,000 PS3s had been given away as part of a holiday promotion which saw every purchaser of a new Sony Bravia LCD receive a free console. The 238,000 figure means the PS3 has easily eclipsed the first-year sales total for the PlayStation 2, which clocked in 146,000 in sales for in its first 12 months. GfK has yet to release figures for Q1 2008 hardware sales in Australia.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
I think by SEPTEMBER 2008
PS3 will become the no1 SOLD NEXT GEN CONSOLE in AU
good JOB SONY
Thanks GFK for your figures
Wow, all three platforms are selling rather poorly in Australia. Only 300k Wii's in a year?
PS3 retails for $700AUD, PS2 is like $150AUD, Wii is $400AUD. So assuming the PS3 is at the price the PS2 was released for and has basically doubled the PS2 sold figure in it's first year sales, The PS3 is doing very well in Australia.
the xbox 360 is huge in oz
I had 25 friends playing gta yesterday,lol
need a bigger friends list 100 is not good enough
hate deleting friends
i dont know for sure but australia is rated as having a fairly high standard of living with high disposable income compared to the rest of the world.
perhaps prices are relative to this.....just a theory
@dukegodtezza - dont talk rubbish, ps3 has picked up alot of steam, xbox360 isles are deserted. i saw a tumbleweed blowing through the Kmart xbox section.
