Man, i really wish this game didn't have a subscription model. I was really looking forward to this.....With both consoles having online subscriptions now, there's no way im going to pay an additional sub for a game.

SpinalRemains1384534d ago

Play Warframe. That's 100% free. Its really fun too.

GarrusVakarian4534d ago

Coincidentally im downloading that right now, but i don't see the similarities between that and ESO lol.

It's also only 2% of what Elder Scrolls Online will be though.

This is the game with Fort building and destructible environments right ?

Don't worry Zenimax will offer a F2P model somewhere down the road. I'll give them a year or two. Too bad they can't just offer a B2P option with some restrictions and P2P with no restrictions.

They got 3 months though from playing the beta it seems like they will need more time imho.

DirtyLary4534d ago

Glad it has a sub. Keeps the riffraff out.

Christopher4534d ago

Without a subscription model up front, we wouldn't be getting this caliber of MMO to begin with. This game will go F2P like other MMOs, but the subscription model allows for much of the cost of development to be taken care of, which in turn allows them to put more into the game knowing that the cost will be recouped.

NukaCola4534d ago

True but why $15 a month? That's over $200 just for your first year of the game.

Christopher4534d ago

The $15/month is a month-to-month basis. There will be smaller amounts for 3, 6, and yearly subs.

This is fairly standard with MMO subs.

Ashlen4534d ago

Have you played it?

I took part in the beta and it's not that great.

I have played much better F2P and pay once then free games. (at launch)

I'm going to have to disagree that charging for the box then a subscription has in any way made it better than the competition.

Christopher4534d ago

Ashlen, that's fairly subjective as to whether you like the game or not.

The fact is, without a subscription, the gameplay would not have changed but the quality and available content would be a lot less due to a lack of less funding up front. With a subscription model in plan, there's more investment potential for an MMO, a lot more. This aids in building a solid foundation for gameplay and content whereas with F2P you tend to hobble content from one stage to the next, oftentimes making lower quality content that is overly repetitive because you only build as cash is generated and as demand for those who are actually playing comes along.

So they delay the game so it can be released simultaneously beside the consoles version but now announce the pc and console versions have two separate release dates.

Christopher4534d ago

They delayed it to actually alter some of the gameplay elements to work with controllers and maintain parity in gameplay design across all platforms. The delay was because of consoles, but not to ensure same-day release schedules on them all.

Bolts-N-Rays11094534d ago

Get rid of the subscription model.

SaintAlpha1014534d ago

I'll pick it up when it adopts a Guild Wars 2 style payment style of "Buy the game, play it forever with no further subscriptions."
