I have the PS3 version and I've had no problems and even played for over an hour online.

So far I had zero problems and I played ut for atleast 6 hours straight yesterday without any breaks on my 360. The only issue happened online where I had the slightest bit of lag in one game for about 10 seconds at the most.Considering how many millions of people were on playing I am shocked and glad microsoft learned from there xmas of 07 mistake and prepared properly.

and the game itself has thus far run absolutely flawlessly, with not even the slightest note of hesitation or freezing during the five-plus hours I've clocked in.

However, I did attempt to try multiplayer last night, only to receive a 'cannot connect' error.

And oh yeah: For some strange reason, the game does tend to become quite unstable and almost unplayable...every time I leave the bar.

Go figure.

Great, I've seen 616, and guess what? Again, PS3 has more realistic colors, however you want to spin it, and not only that, but it has better AA. If you are too delusional to believe it, make a soom on both pictures and check these details out:

-Skin Care and Nails sign

-Comrades bar sign

Those signs clearly look jagged. Well, most of the 360 picture looks jagged, but those are the worst looking examples.

About the color, the 360 version looks artificially lit, or like a cartoon, or whatever you wanna call it... NOT REALISTIC. But hey, I guess Xbox 360 fantards love "choice" (like not having an hdd out of the box) and prefer garbage looking than, in Piece of Sh1t words (or whatever his name is) "warm".

This *still* frames don't even account for the frame-rate issues on 360, the pop-in on trees and other in-game objects, the massive dithering just exposed on the 360 version (which is also present in Burnout Paradise for the 360), nor the RROD potential, or the burning houses potential of the Xbox 360.

Seriously, there has only been ONE outlet supporting the Xbox 360 version (see theMart's link but I wouldn't go there as it would only make their pockets deeper for an unethical and inflammatory article), which can explained by either two things: They have a fanboy agenda, which is what Xbots think the rest of the press outlets did, OR, much more likely and realistically (unlike Xbots' delusional view of the world), they wanted to generate hits by adding fire to the controversy. That's how business works.

I put in the bluray disc...and start GTA4...it starts to do the hard disc install...it freezes at about 75 percent....I deleted the GTA$ game data..and GTA4 game save...and turned off the PS3 fully...let it rest...and tried again 3 times...and it still either freezes at 25 percent or 75 percent...the last time it froze at the end of the install on a black screen...so i am getting close. I now have the PS3 turned off...and I am at work. I will exchange my game at a different target and try again tonight. I think if I can get past the harddisc install of the game I might be able to play it.

I have a launch 60GB PS3...with 33 GB of free HardDisk space.
I Have tried turning off internet connect and mediaserver connections...and deleting the game data and save....neither makes a difference....but if you leave the PS3 off for at least an hour it will let you reinstal but it will still freeze during the install.

Mine could be a defective disc...

I tried installing other games...like oblivion and they all work. So it is not the PS3...it is either a bad disc...or a bad bug in the GTA4 game or a firmware issue effecting certain PS3s and this game.

I just want to play this game.

If anybody has any ideas please help me.

GTAIV is compromised as of the moment. I recently spoke to Take 2 interactive and told me that nothing at moment is planned to ship out a patch through Playstation Network Or Live. I guess we must be all patient!

About 4 1/2 hours in and it's frose 3 times, though all three were in the space of 30 mins about 2 1/2 hours through - strange

I did not expect the PS3 online room here in America to be so crowded. I think neither did Rockstar. They need to ask Gamespy to increase server capacity. Great game but kinda buggy.

80Gb Ps3 here. LOVING the game.

i played the game for a whole day (10-12hrs straight) and nothing the second time i played it froze in a random spot and after a couple of hours or so it ends up freezing now.

i dont really mind though it happens but not frequently enough for me to care i have to be playing for a while before it happens also i got online which runs fine i just want to know what it is speceifically because if the game disc is bad i'll just get a new one but if it needs a patch ill wait for the patch

my fear is that once i open up the whole map it will freeze a whole lot more

I have been playing my GTA4 on my 60 gb and its been fine. Ive only notice two moments when it froze for like a second, when coming down the stairs from the subway and I cant remember where the other happened but considering the information in these games now a days so I wasnt pulling my hair for those two seconds it froze. However if there are versions out there with actuall problems then hopefully they will exchange them. I will try out the online game today...if I get a chance, too hooked on the SP right now. 10% so far through the game so I hope I get some extra girfriends to keep me busy.

I've not encountered any issues on my EU release 60gb PS3 so far.

I have a 60gb and it never froze while playing for 4 hours. I was able to connect online today after it didn't work yesterday, but I haven't been able to link my PSN ID to the Social Club...I wonder if it's just a delay.

Didn`t have any Freezing issues, except one time in multiplayer whilst joining a server. Frame rate problems in mulitplayer all the time, and some minor hiccups during gameplay on single player, but thats to be expected due to the open ended nature of the game. Otherwise pretty impressed, wasn't to hyped about the game so my expectations have been met. Played on Ps3 so i cannot comment about 360.

My problem is that i can't find a copy for my 360.
The whole of Scotland seems to be sold out of the 360 version.

Framerate problem? that's a given. I didn't get to play MP at all yesterday as the servers were down. Today it works but I only fried out Free mode with random people. Was a bit laggy so I just went back to Single Player.

I got the game last night, have gone through a few missions with no issues what so ever. I will say that up to this point GTA IV is the most impressive game I have ever played. Period.

I had to play my copy at my neighbor's house all day yesterday because I can't get it to run on mine.

We played from 1:30 to 10:30 yesterday with no hitches, AT ALL.

So I bring it back to my house and after a promising 2 minutes of play it freezes on me. ( I just wanted to cry or something) I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME IN THE COMFORT OF my HOUSE, ON my PS3!

So as of now my neighbor has a free copy of the game.

I played for about 9 hours straight last night on my 60gig PS3 without even the slightest hiccup in framerate or anything else.

on my 60gig ps3. I did get through the install then 1st freeze happened while watching the cutscene...was on the boat. So I restarted and said forget the cutscene so I skipped it now after about 10 tries I cant even drive to Roman's house before it freezes. I gotta exchange it today after work. This sucks that such a big release would have these problems.

But the horror stories made me get all religious during the opening cinematic. And I got freaked out during the first tutorial when I couldn't move Nico around. I was like "AUGH!!"

Then I realized i had to press Next. -_-' But yeah, game runs smoothly. Hope it's just bad discs that got put out there that can get replaced easily. =/

I exchanged my game, no change, still freezes.

I have tried the following:
-Re-installed game 3 times after deleting everything each time.
-switched from HDMI video to component, then to composite
-switched audio from optical to HDMI then composite and component
-unhooked ethernet cable
-turned off all PS2 upscaling and other options
-Disabled internet connection in XMB
-I exchanged my game disc for a new one
-I switch resolutions : 1080i - 720p - 480i
-I removed all my USB peripherals
-I skipped the intro movie

All of these things were tried, but nothing worked.
Last night I was able to skip every cutscene and managed to get to the end of the first mission, however it crashed as soon as I got back to Ramones taxi house.

There is nothing you can do to fix the issue. It is something Rockstar will either have to do a recall for or send out a patch.

This is unacceptable. Testing should have been done.

Also: this is not about which console is your favorite.. this is about the biggest game of the year being released without being properly tested - EVEN AFTER a 6 month delay!
They better offer our money back, give us some incentive or send out a patch by the end of the week.

It's a poorly worded poll. I have the ps3 version, the only issue I've had is going online. However the poll lumps all the problems in the same category (have you had problems freezing, going online, AND some other major bugs). it should have the problems listed seperate.

GTA4 is the only game giving me 2 rings of overheat.

Well I got mine for the 360 from Asda launch night,played for an hour perfect and then DA DA DAAAAAA,Disc read error please wipe the disc etc,well for one theres not a single scratch on the disc and two I always look after them.Its happened nearly 20 times and thats no bull,I just wanna play the game without all this sh1t happening.

With all the random issues on both systems this has to be a problem with the printing of some of the discs. Its not the PS3, its not the 360, it has to be the disc.

I beleive this to be true because no body that I know has had problems with there PS3s and only one person that I know has had problems with there 360. (the 360 issues where pop up related though, no freezing).

So stop talking about your consoles and lets talk about this great game.

My friend Justin had this same problem last year. It then started to happen with all of his 360 games. After sending it to Microsoft a couple
of times before for RROD issues he called them again and was told that the disc read error issues are not covered under the extended warranty because it is not a RROD issue.

He ended up trading it in at Game Stop and getting the other console.

...and I'm playing it on a day-1 launch 360, so go figure. :p I've spent about 5 hours with the SP so far, completing 7 "missions", and doing a lot of running around; it's been given a thorough test.

BTW, I also played it on LIVE from 11:30pm-3:30am last night, with 2 friends...one in northwest Canada, and the other in Australia...with ZERO lag, and no problems whatsoever. :)

that i bought in February 07, and so far i haven't had any issues.

i only played online once (i'm more into the story mode), and when i tried to log in yesterday, i couldn't, but that's because i couldn't log into my PSN, because our ISP was acting stupid all last night.

i'm about 8-10 hours into the single player campaign, and i haven't had a single performance issue (no framerate issues, no pop ins that i've notices, no freezes).

hopefully i won't get any of these problems, and i also hope MS finds a way to isolate and fix it for those that have had this happen.

it's not like they aren't working to figure this out, so i'd try to advise everyone to stay calm (easier said than done, i know, but b*tching and complaining won't make the solution come any faster).

mine locked up my PS3 but i restarted the ps3 and it was fine for 2 or 3 hours then it would freeze again, but not a big deal for now.

Well GTAIV has been running smooth as can be for me. 12 hrs straight and no freezing. I have been playing it on a 60gig ps3. I feel bad for the people who got a defective copy. Rockstar needs to step it up, first bully now this. Its really unexcusable.

I see people talking about quiting the game on the PS3, so i have a question. This is a bit off topic but is there actually a "Quit Game" option on the 360 version? I haven't seen one yet, definitely not in the New, Load, Autosave section anyways. After saving i just pause the game and turn my system off. Is the quit in the cell phone or something because it seems strange not to have one :-S

I've had no problems with my copy, I have the 360 version. No pop ins or anything like that. The only problem, if you want to call it a problem was when I first began I noticed the contrast and brightness was too dark. But this could have been my HDTV. My experience has been flawless, so far.

yup, I am. 360 20gb from apr 2007...sometimes sticks on load screens, loads forever. no hard lock ups though. usually happens when going from multi back to single player. also happens right after cut scenes sometimes as well. always random. I end up having to go back to the dashboard and running the game again.

360 version no problems here, I haven't went online yet, I'm waiting until I get deeper into the SP, but still I've talked to everyone I know who has the game and none of them have had a issue with 360 version. Is there a forum with alot of complaints about the 360 version?, if so could someone give me the link, I'd just like to know if there is any trends of disc freezing on the 360 or if its just random isolated problems that a few gamers always have with any game.

how you tried everything to get GTA to work but my question is do you have any PS3 themes (Maybe you don't) but if you do how about trying to delete it. Mine has worked fine so far. To all you PS3 guys out there having freezing issues, try disabling the news ticker if you have it displaying on your XMB. That was causing freezing issues with Assassin's Creed awhile back and after I turned it off, all the problems stopped.

Ive been playing the game for a while now and am over 34% complete. I am yet to encounter any problems witht the game on my PS3. The only thing that has come close to scaring me is changing the TV channels, sometimes there can be a bit of a delay. Otherwise no problems so far, but what an epic game :)!!!!

Launch 60GB PS3. Been playing since Friday evening, over 20 hours into the game, the ONLY problem I had was getting online on release day (29th) I had recieved a message on the XMB saying that PSN was suspended so I thought I was just banned from the game or something. Tried it yesterday and played deathmatch, team deathmatch and the Mafya job online games, then went back to playing the actual game without a hitch.

I'm sorry for anyone getting this issue as it's a great game but it's definately not happening accross the board.

I have a 60gig ps3 (upgraded to 232gigs) and I'm about 6 hours in with out any problems, knock on wood. I feel for the people having issues though, I would be well pi$$ed. I just hope rockstar make the patch optional (if thats even possible) so it doesn't screw the systems that the game is working on (bioshock I'm looking at you). Other than that when your eyes adjust to the way this game looks you can see why it got tens, the muddy look people were trolling about in other threads really is just sorta like an out of focus effect, which I may add works really well. This is by far the best title I've played for a long time.

until i turned it on today. Intermittant freezes since i started it up after work. Was perfect until then. WTF? feels like hardware to me, seeing as it was fine every other time i played it.
