Warframe (PlayStation 4) Review - Push Square

Push Square: "When you're dashing and slashing with capable allies, Warframe is decent game – but there's still a lot of work that needs done before it can be considered a good one. The user interface isn't controller friendly, you're given little to no direction, and the title's free-to-play model hinders its overall design. Until these issues are rectified, we suggest waiting in the shadows for the release to finally emerge from its beta state."

get your popcorn.

I had fun with it. But the grind is not something i am interested in. Beside i got way to many games to play right now :)

guitarded774567d ago

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way. I have some friends that love the game... and it's fun with friends. But as a lone wolf most of the time, there are better games for me. But even with that said, I think it's at least a 7.

0ut1awed4567d ago

That's what I was trying to tell people before the PS4 came out. It's all about the grind. If you're into that then more power to you I guess.

zeal0us4567d ago

Either grind or spend $$$ for platinum. Credits only can be spend on a few items. Digital Extreme really need to fix that. No one really want spend majority of their time just grinding and waiting for weapon, item or etc to be made.

TheDarpaChief4567d ago

everything except silly scarfs can be earned with in game stuff. Weapons are really easy to get too. characters are the only pain to attain

KwietStorm_BLM4567d ago (Edited 4567d ago )

Well Warframe is essentially a dungeon crawler, so if that's not your thing, you won't enjoy it. I like it because it's one of those games you can jump into at any time for a quick action fix. The design is definitely something that can get repetitive, but it's fun with friends or for short sessions. Hopefully they'll add variety when it comes out of beta.

dcj05244567d ago

Yeah. I used to hate grinding with a passion but I found my self failing horribly at JRPGS so now Its a habbit I firmed over the years. Now I ovetgrind in everything even in real life lol.

I'm really enjoying the game. This gets most of my time even though I have 2k14 and ghosts for pseud and dead rising for xbox

curtis924567d ago (Edited 4567d ago )

am I the only one that thinks reviews for something that's free are meaningless? I see reviews being for people deciding if they should spend their hard earned money on it. It's free. Download it. Play it. Make your own minds up.

ExPresident4567d ago

Nothing wrong with people reviewing them, doesn't hurt anyone, but I do see and pretty much agree with your point. In the case of these free games the consumer, as usual, is gonna be the deciding factor on how long the game lasts. If its crap it isn't gonna make it long.

Reviews on paid games obviously give consumers a better idea of what they should or shouldn't spend their hard earned money for.

I'd say reviewers should save their time, review a paid game, and let the consumers just test the free stuff for themselves. Then again, who are we to judge what someone should do with their own time :)

zeal0us4567d ago

If it was completely free then maybe I would agree but it has a micro-transaction system build into it. With a free game people might not be spending money but they are definitely spending their time. Beside is it really hurting anyone a free game gets reviewed in the first place?

KwietStorm_BLM4567d ago

Doesn't matter that it's free if it's crap. And I'm definitely not saying Warframe is crap, it's fun. Now reviewing something still in beta, that's another thing.

MrTrololo4567d ago

This game is just open beta and i think it a very good f2p game. Almost everything you can get through crafting. 8.5/10 for me.

XboxFun4567d ago

This is basically what you are going to get in almost every F2P game. A long, tedious grind if you don't drop the cash. I don't know why people are shocked about this or was even excited that these types of games would be on consoles.

Hicken4567d ago

Maybe cuz it's not a "long, tedious grind" for everybody, whether they spend money or not. The grind, itself, isn't too different from how it is in JRPGs. When done well, that's one of the most fun parts about a f2p game or JRPG.

XboxFun4567d ago

Way completely different comparison from a JRPG and a f2p Hicken.

The only way it's not a long tedious grind for F2P's is if you have all the time on your hands or if you spend the cash but like many reviewers of this game for example the grind is long and tedious.

This is basically how a lot of F2p games are built. They are designed with grinding and the long haul in mind only. They want the user that plays to feel they made some progression but still not enough to meet their accomplishment. This is what keeps them coming back.

This is also why they have the pay options so the user can get to their goal quicker and the company gets paid. A lot of these users is what these companies call "whales" because they spend the cash on a lot of features and options.

"When done well, that's one of the most fun parts about a f2p game or JRPG."

I agree, if a game is designed well, then the grind would be fun. I have played many F2P games though where it wasn't though and it was obvious that the game wanted you to spend money right away by either setting a level gate or limiting energy for play time.

‘Warframe’ is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide

"Digital Extremes’ free sci-fi epic Warframe, a zeitgeist of online gaming, is now available for Nintendo Switch™ 2." - Digital Extremes.

Neonridr72d ago

nice to see this game finally made it. Hopefully it looks and runs smooth.

TGG_overlord72d ago

Very much so, and I sure hope so. I do recall that people pointed that out for System Shock as well (I think that problem has been solved now).

DivineHand12571d ago

I just downloaded it on my phone a few weeks ago and the framerate isn't bad if you set it to 60hz. I suspect the switch 2 version should fair better interms of performance.

TGG_overlord71d ago

From what I've seen so far, it runs pretty smoth on the Switch 2.

BISHOP-BRASIL71d ago

It's originally a game released in 2013, obviously a lot has been changed since, but still the base code for this game was in development before at least 2011, which means that thing was probably going to run on PS3 and XB360 with a few tweaks, Digital Extremes just chose to skip into next gen... Someone would have had to majorly fuck up for the Switch 2 not to run Warframe smoothly, a game with 15 year old mid power target specs! It's a very light and optimized game by now anyway, it famously runs well on relatively old notebooks with CPU integrated graphics... Hell, even the mobile version manages to not run like ass.

TGG_overlord71d ago

That is true, so there should be no problems like you said, unless someone has messed-up really badly.

1nsomniac71d ago

Haven’t played this since it launched on ps4. Surprised it’s still even a thing.

DivineHand12571d ago

The game has received many quality of life updates since the PS4 days and receives content drops several times per year. The best part is that it is not pay to win.

It is a great way to unwind, but you will need to be active in the community to play this game. Most of the mechanics are explained by youtubers, forum posts and wiki pages.

TGG_overlord71d ago

Exactly. And nope, it was never a P2W title, and from what I understand, it will remain that way as well.

TGG_overlord71d ago

The updates and community keeps the game going.
