PS4 Versus Xbox One: Which Console Is Better

MTV - The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster for video gamers, with the release of not one but two shiny new black boxes: the Playstation 4, and the Xbox One. After having plenty of time with the next gen consoles, we feel confident in calling an early victory for one system. So just think of this as the "Hunger Games" but for video games.

xHeavYx4572d ago (Edited 4572d ago )

For gaming? The PS4, for gimmicks and something that tries to do too many things at once? The One. That's just my opinion of course. I mean, the PS4 is just more powerful, Sony owns very talented 1st party studios and has a story of providing great IPs

theBAWSE4572d ago

whichever console you have preference for...

iGAM3R-VIII4572d ago

Agreed I mean it really is up to the consumer, MS and SOny both targeted different types of people, and those people bought the console that suited them

Eonjay4572d ago

Agreed. I find it odd that reviews are written like they should apply to everyone's needs. There are people who would enjoy one more than four... I mean the other. LOL I kid but in all seriousness I found that some people want games and others want an entertainment system... from my perspective they are both entertainment systems. They both do more than play games. The systems at there core both stream movies, play dvd and even have browsers. They both record footage, have music apps and cool feature that track you4 accomplishments.

mikeslemonade4572d ago

^ Y'all a bunch of fence sitters. Answer the damn question.. The PS4 should be the first console you buy this generation and possibly the only console you should buy. I'm sitting with a PS4 and Vita as for myself. I recommend PS4. Vita is okay but not required.

johndoe112114572d ago

@mikeslemonade

The situation is not as clear cut as that. Listen, the reality is the ps4 is a much more capable machine gaming wise. I don't think anyone except the real die-hard xbox fans would argue that but to say which one is better is really up to preference.

Right now the polls are showing that people are more interested in the better gaming machine hence the reason the ps4 is tearing the xbox a new one, well that and the disaster that was the xbox reveal. But there are people that would prefer those tv and snap features.

For the person who prefers the tv and snap features the xbox one is the better console. For the people who prefer the better gaming experience and high quality first party exclusives, the ps4 is the go to machine.

It's not about being on the fence, it's about what you are looking for in a console. Personally, I don't give a blue barnacle about the xbox one. As a gaming machine I think it is lacking. Yes it does have some good exclusives (mainly Titan Fall), but the question is how much better would those games have looked and played on the ps4?

At the end of the day they both have their uses and you can't really bash someone because they prefer a particular experience.

Saigon4572d ago (Edited 4572d ago )

I actually have been holding this back for a while. At work there is a divide when it comes to the gaming consoles, but not so much as to cause a rift at work. Every one has their favorite and it tends to shift as time goes on but its just the economics of my work place. With that said, I spoke to the leader of the bunch about his purchase to see how he liked the Xbone. To my surprised he gave an odd review. He explained how the interface is great and he loved K2 and what it allowed you to do. He stated the games were good and the biggest shocker, which took me a while to digest the words; he stated 'he connected it to only disconnect it'. When I realized what he stated, I asked him why. He said though the snap functions were cool and what it allowed you to do, it was too dependent on the K2. I initially assumed that the Xbone allowed users to use the K2 or controller to interact, but he stated that the K2 was the only way to actually interact with all of the functions especially TV. I assumed with the recent changes of not needing K2 to function MS allowed users to interact with the controller. Another point he interjected was that sometimes K2 wouldn't recognize his commands, but it wasn't enough to discredit the functionality. He also stated the other reason as being that his wife to be would get frustrated using the feature.

I guess my point is that each console has it preferred list of gamers. And in reality it is to-each-its-own. At the same time some times each of the consoles we purchase somehow never live up to what we expect, and it is ok to accept.

R6ex4572d ago

I'll buy both, as well as their exclusives. That's it. Everything other game will be bought from Steam.

Steam offers value & high-end visuals at minimum 1080p and whatever framerates your PC can provide. Consoles are only good for exclusives.

Do yo u ever get tired of promoting someone for free. I myself like to tell my friends about good tasting foods which had somewhere. However I don't spend endless days thinking of ways to talk about how godly the restaurant was. I also like for people when curious about something to go find their own answers. Don't mistake the wording It's not rhetorical and I'm not upset .However You must be getting payed with all the PR Work you do around here

I_am_Batman4572d ago

You don't seem to be as passionate about food as xHeavyx is about gaming then. Honestly he even pointed out that his comment is based on his opinion. I don't see a problem with that. people are discussing movies, music or sports the same way.

brich2334572d ago

Just because it has more power, doesn't mean its better ,for gaming. My PC has way more power, do I think its better for gaming? No. The Ps4 has more gimmicks than the Xbox one, it has a camera and the touchpad. The Wii u has better games out now. Better than both new consoles, and I'm still enjoying my Xbox 360.

IIXIXI4572d ago

for gaming, what games? knack?

4572d ago
BitbyDeath4571d ago

Killzone -> Dead Rising 3 -> Knack -> Ryse -> Forza 5 IMO

jacksons984571d ago

@IIXIXI
Look at PS3 for the last year Atlelier, Beyond Two Souls, Disgaea, God of War, Ni No Kuni, Puppeteer, Last of Us (highest rated game of the year), etc...
What has 360 had in the last 2 or even 3 years?
That's the difference. Another difference is Sony will keep supporting PS3 for sometime. And that is the reason I went PS4

ipach4572d ago (Edited 4572d ago )

not just power. there's an elegance, practicality and modesty to how everything is presented and implemented right now. there are some minor tweaks that will help in terms of the UI, but you never feel like they are trying to stuff some half baked feature fart fest on you. some of the subtle features i LOVE:
- superfast trophy sync and compare
- superfast swapping to home and game (incl suspend/resume from game to netflix/movie and back)
- 3.5mm headset jack with excellent sound (turn your favorite audiophile cans into a killer gaming headset)
- easy friend activity discovery (a little cluttered, but definitely easy and working)
- useful and fast game splash pages with trophies, manual (actually helped for resogun), friends' activities, etc., as well as a nice subtle game related soundtrack
- background downloads and installations
- sensible and nonobtrusive but visible notifications
- simple voice commands that don't require memorizing anything: e.g. 'playstation, AC4' vs needing to say 'assassin's creed 4: black flag'

UnholyLight4571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

xHeavYx

Get what you're saying, however I wouldn't write it off as a gimmick just yet. Look at how much Kinect has influenced the TV market itself...Just like a week ago I saw an add for the new (Samsung, LG???) TV that allows you to use gesture commands (similar to Kinect and now what Xbox One uses). Look even at how Smart TVs have evolved, I bet at a time people said that that was a gimmick but now it is what TV manufactures must do in order to stay competitive.

I guess it all goes back to the Wii, which everyone said was the biggest gimmick in gaming and look at where the market went?

- Im just saying we shouldn't be so quick to write something off that I think in some capacity the features of the Xbox One will become more and more commonplace.

The PS4 is absolutely amazing for gaming though. I love it, and right now I'm spending more time on it than my Xbox One, but that is likely due to the fact that I bought Battlefield 4 for it over the Xbox One!

gman_moose4571d ago

Love how none of these comparison articles ever mention price as a plus for PS4. I know MTV picked PS4 as the better console anyway, but to give X1 a bonus point because Kinect is packaged in, but not mention that the price is $100 higher because of it is a glaring ommission.

Guess price only matters when it's MS that's cheaper...

jacksons984571d ago

I think with the lesser processing power and graphics power in the Xbox even with Kinect it should cost the same if not less as PS4

Prime1574571d ago

Well, MS shouldn't have forced the Kinect down our damn throats.

ps4 is the better gaming machine but as it currently stands xbox has the better games. Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Forza are all great games. sure some of them might not be the most graphically capable or have 1080p resolution but they're fun to play which is all that matters.

hennessey864572d ago

the better gaming machine is the one with the best games and its far to early to judge that. But if your basing it on specs then most PC's are the better gaming machines

ChrisW4572d ago

These days, when buying a gaming machine (PC or console), you get what you pay for. So, of course an $800 to $1,000 PC is going to be the better machine.

JackBNimble4572d ago

@Chris
By that logic then the xboxone must be the better gaming machine. It's clearly more expensive then the ps4 even if you add the ps4 cam.

I also do enjoy pc gaming, especially the so called xbox exclusives that I play on my rig.

Sarcasm4572d ago

Yes currently at launch, there are some fun games on the Xbox One. But who in their right mind buys a system "ONLY" for the launch titles? You buy a console looking ahead for what will come out.

ipach4572d ago

and i think people overly penalize PS4's launch lineup for the lack of Drive Club and the averageness of Killzone's gameplay/story. Given the superior experience to be had with most 3rd party games, you might as well add those to the PS4 game lineup. And that Resogun. Happily my first platinum of next gen.

Sarcasm4571d ago

^Exactly, anybody who's owned a PS3 last generation knows that Sony will support their console with tons and tons of games.

I can respect those who decide to wait out on a PS4 until a game comes out that they want, that's fine. But to say "TeH pS4 suX there are no games I will never get one! I'd rather have DR3, Forza 5," blah blah blah are really just trolling.

And people are forgetting the 3rd party games play and look better on the PS4, which will be the majority of games coming out for either system.

supes_244571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

Sarcasm, I totally agree with you. I never understood the " launch games sell systems" argument. A console is a long term investment and that's how I based my decision for the gen, by comparing last gen. I owned both a 360 and PS3 and I used each consoles history to make my decision for this gen. I loved how Sony finished so strong, I had the best gaming experiences with them in the end and I expect the same this gen. So far I'm loving my PS4 by the way.

tordavis4571d ago

@mrswanksinatra "ps4 is the better gaming machine but as it currently stands xbox has the better games."

Please make sense out of this.

But yeah, great post.

starchild4572d ago (Edited 4572d ago )

Neither is "better". It comes down to your own needs and preferences. For me personally the PC fulfills my needs and preferences best. Everybody is different.

Hicken4572d ago

Oh, there's definitely a "better," even if that's determined solely by each individual.

But there can also be better based on other things, such as, "Which is better as it pertains to providing an open platform for indie developers?"

The way the question is commonly phrased, it's far too open to answer accurately. Which is why you'll often find people narrowing it down- something that didn't used to be necessary- with "For gaming."

starchild4572d ago

Which was exactly my point. You can't simply make a blanket statement as to which is "better".

You have to ask: "better for what?" and "better for who?"

It comes down to individual preferences and needs. There is a huge amount of subjective evaluation involved as well.

Death4572d ago

Which is "better" for gaming is very subjective and open to personal interpretation. To me, a device is better for gaming if it makes people want to interact with it more and make gaming more accessable by keeping you connected with the gaming community. If I am bored and watching TV, a movie on BR/DVD or even in Netflix and see my friends playing or getting an invite, I am more likely to play then if I were isolated from them.

For others a higher native resolution is all they need to feel better about the games they play. I've always been weird and felt the overall experience took front and center. I don't care about native pixel count as long as the game is fun, has an engaging story, or has great replay value.

bahabeast4572d ago

I like everything about Sony and ps4 but I love the multitasking of the xbox one specialy the Skype and voice controls.

ipach4572d ago

skype seems solid on x1. but voice controls, i don't know... more controls are not always better. ps4's voice controls are there, but thankfully don't need a degree in kinectology

noctis_lumia4571d ago

who fcking cares about skype,if i want skype i have a pc,consoles are for games and thats why i have a ps4

jacksons984571d ago

Skype is nice, but PS4 has the voice controls too and you don't need a camera to do it

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose44d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE44d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername43d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy44d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde44d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8643d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8643d ago (Edited 43d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

pwnmaster300044d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
