Avalanche Studios Posts New Video that Possibly Hints at Just Cause 3

Avalanche has posted a new video to their Youtube channel today showing off how they research environments for “upcoming video games”. The video takes place in a tropical environment and associate art director Andreas Oberg explains how they translate real environments into video game form. The team focuses on trees, water, dynamic weather and other environmental elements.

they better announce just cause 3 at E3 next year

-Foxtrot4563d ago

Because Just Cause is better then Mad Max

Mad Max will be a deserted wasteland while with Just Cause you have a crap load to do

Eldyraen4563d ago

I don't know if its better as we haven't seen much of Mad Max yet (although from what I've seen JC is more fun in terms of crazy stuff to do but hard to compare a game that has been out for years to one with about 30m of gameplay revealed).

I do believe MM will be much more barren as it suits the setting but could easily have missions that utilize the "empty" spaces well (random bandit encounters/encampments both on foot or vehicular). There will likely be camps/towns/etc of various sorts as well reminiscent of the different groups from MM canon and even a few new ones to discover.

Depending in how far Avalanche goes (or is allowed to) it could be great even given a desolate setting. My biggest hope for any open world game is that they look at Bethesda for inspiration.

Bethesda games for all their faults are a more natural setting than most teaming with diverse people/fauna/flora which makes the world itself one of the best reasons to get the game. Many open world games have been going that route lately not focusing entirely on the human factors so often. JC2 looked great but a lot of its world was just too empty besides for vegetation. 3 I expect will remedy this though as video showed a lot of focus on more natural setting (2 was sort of cardboard cutout of tropics as looked good but bit lifeless at times).

I'm unsure of what MM will do for flora/fauna but hopefully they can add enough to make it a believable and living desert wasteland which will be the challenge.

Just Cause 2 revolutionised sandbox games when it came out. It just gives the players a crazy amount of freedom.

Sorry for my circumbendibus, what I mean is that I think it would be great if it (Just Cause 3) is unveiled this week at VGX ;)

WeAreLegion4563d ago

The same guy also said that gamers don't care about story because nobody played the storyline of Just Cause 2. They just ran around.

In short, the man is a complete moron. But dang it...Just Cause 2 is SO MUCH FUN!

Who decides if a games story is average idefinitely ain't listening to no reviewers. I don't agree with most of then anyway. I think alot of them are to harsh on games so they can get clicks

Every Soulslike game ever made.

refocusedman1144d ago

zelda has a story line? Actually do any nintendo 1st party games have decent (not even good) storylines?

NotoriousWhiz1144d ago

Does Xenoblade count as 1st party? That's the only one I can think of.

NotoriousWhiz1144d ago

Also, Ocarina of time definitely had a decent (but not great) story.

Brazz1144d ago (Edited 1144d ago )

Zelda average story line!? Zelda Story sucks, most time It comes to "save the princess", Nintendo sucks at story outside Fire Emblem and perhaps 1-2 other IPs.

DOMination-1143d ago

Actually the Souls games and Zelda games share something in common, which is that they reward gamers for seeking out the story rather than thrusting it in their faces. Not saying this is better or worse, but it's unfair to say they don't have them.

People will be surprised to learn that if you dig a bit deeper into Zelda games, there's a whole lot of really dark and crazy stuff happening.

RaiderNation1143d ago

@DOMination

Thrust in your face??? I assume by that you mean basic story-telling 101? Lol.

I platinumed both Niohs but for the life of me, couldn’t tell you what happened in the story lol! I can namedrop Nobunaga, but that’s about it.

ChasterMies1144d ago (Edited 1144d ago )

The pinnacle of bad story but great gameplay is Destiny and Destiny 2. What is the Traveler? What is the Darkness? What the heck is happening? No one knew. But shooting the aliens and robots felt so good.

Brazz1144d ago (Edited 1144d ago )

Article os about "average" story. But If you wanna talk about bad story but great gameplay you need to look at Nintendo, they are the masters at making poor shirt story on great gameplay.

HeliosHex1144d ago

@deus. If you want more of the story fleshed out in detail I'd recommend the destiny grimoire anthology 1-6 25 bucks each. It's really good I loved the backstory on the guns.

Relientk771144d ago

"I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain."

Is my favorite line from Destiny's "story" lol
