Forza 5’s Not-So-Micro Transactions

Giant Bomb "I’m going to attempt to examine the price difference of buying cars with car tokens (real money) in Forza 4 vs Forza 5. I ended up with a list of 18 cars to do this with. I definitely needed to pick some of the most expensive cars in both games. I also needed to go very low and have some stuff in between. I didn’t want a bunch of random Merecedes and Hondas, so I went for more recognizable stuff as well."

Hate this crap!!The one game that would make me buy an xbox one. Thanks Microsoft. You saved me $500. I really wanted this game to. So mad about this.

Remember when developers and publishers didn't try to nickel and dime you at every corner?

Pepperidge Farm remembers..

Volkama4549d ago

I really wanted Forza 5. I don't really mind the cut-down content that hit review scores, as each of the car models and each of the tracks was rebuilt and I think shooting for quality at the expense of quantity is to correct way to build the game.

But I can't stand micro-transactions, and I can't abide the metagame changes made to support micro-transactions.

Same for Crimson Dragon, it's reviewed badly but I'd like to buy it anyway because I want to see more from that dev, that's something I'd like MS to invest in. But "you died, pay £x to continue" is totally unacceptable.

This is the problem with the idea of "vote with your wallet". How do I make it clear what aspect I'm protesting?

malokevi4549d ago

I don't know what all the complaints are about. Yes, it's tough to save up enough credits to buy all the cars. But isn't that the idea? If you play a lot, you will eventually achieve that goal. It's not supposed to be easy!

It's like people expect that they should be able to buy all the cars. So, you wan't "smaller" microtransactions? You wan't it to be easy to pay your way to the top? Or no micro transactions? Because, last I checked, it's perfectly possible to buy all the cars with enough time, effort, and gameplay. The game has barely been out for 2 weeks, and already people are crying into their palms.

I spoke to someone online tonight who was close to saving the 6 million credits needed to buy the most expensive car in the game, and he was already driving a really nice one. He has been playing online a ton, and earning lots of credits. Just enjoying the game, making conversation, playing races, like a true gamer would do.

The game is ridiculously fun. It looks unbelievably good. Like... damn. I can just stare. I strung together some of my crashes into a DVR clip, looks incredible. I'm not even the type of person who plays racing games, and Forza is by far my most played game on X1. I can't get enough of it.

Seems like I hear more complaints from people who don't have the game, nor the Xbox One, and never intend nor intended to get either one of them. Meanwhile, there are tons of people playing Forza all the time and having an amazing time. I played online for 4 hours tonight, it was fantastic. with 16 people on the track, in most game as many as 10 of them are talking away, through their Kinects, enjoying the game, yammering at each other, getting pissed off at crashed... it's awesome.

And then theres the people who spend all their time on the internet, complaining about a game they don't even own. Here's a tip: You like gaming? Go play some video games, for frick sake! Stop wasting your time! nobody cares!!! The game is magnificent. If only you could take some time off from being a keyboard warrior, fighting for some lame cause that doesn't concern you, you might actually enjoy yourself for once.

=)

Yes thats always the defense lol "the only ppl that complain are the ones that arent even getting an xbox one waaa waa waaaaa" get over it, some ppl have an xbone and dont think its that good, some ppl have a ps4 and may feel the same way, the manager at my local EB has both consoles and he doesnt even use the xbone at all , he enjoyed playing DR3 but now hes done with it, or maybe he really doesnt have an xbone and he is just telling me he hates it for no reason what so ever hmmm.

And then this comment lmfao " Here's a tip: You like gaming? Go play some video games, for frick sake! Stop wasting your time! nobody cares!!! The game is magnificent. If only you could take some time off from being a keyboard warrior, fighting for some lame cause that doesn't concern you, you might actually enjoy yourself for once." you tell ppl to go play games but you write a 4000 word essay on ways to defend the xbone, pot kettle and black come to mind here.

"Seems like I hear more complaints from people who don't have the game, nor the Xbox One, and never intend nor intended to get either one of them."

^ Yes, it is impossible for someone to play a game that YOU like and then not like it! I mean, that would imply that people see things differently or have different takes on these subjects. And that's nonsense.

Let's make grasping assumptions about the people who disagree with us about video games!
Like let's say that they have never played our favorite games! Yes, that MUST be the case, because there is just no way that someone could play this undeniably awesome game and NOT be happy with it. Not possible.

And let's also say that some of them are basement dwellers who "spend all their time on the internet." Yes, let's assume that we know THAT much about their life. What was our clue? Well, the only clue we have is fortunately the only clue we need: they don't like our favorite video games!

What a bunch of clowns!

Anyone who disagrees with me, I'll say "Do you own the console?" and if they say "Yes," then I will call them a liar and I'll say that they couldn't possibly own the console, because it's impossible to not like Forza 5!

And if they don't own the console, then they are disqualified from the conversation, because as you know, microtransactions are exclusive to Forza and the Xbox One! Fact! You can't have an opinion on that otherwise!

And then I'll say some dumb crap like "Lots of people enjoy it" because if lots of people enjoy it, that means NO ONE can dislike it or be unhappy about the product! No one! Ever!

malokevi4549d ago

Do either of you own the console?

lol.

Lots of people loving the game, including myself, and here you both are, whining about it. Thank you very much for confirming my suspicions and validating my beliefs :D

Hicken4549d ago

Lots of people like murdering people they don't know, too.

Your beliefs were validated before the game was even announced, because your beliefs are tied entirely to your allegiance, and will gladly eschew reality to keep you "believing."

malokevi4549d ago

Hicken, Ok? Alright? Hicken? Ok? Alright? Hicken? Ok? Alright? Hicken? Okay? Hicken? Alright? Ok? Alright?

DigitalRaptor4548d ago (Edited 4548d ago )

@ malokevi

Terrible, terrible response.

Enjoying the game does not correspond to the damaging industry trend that Microsoft is yet again trying to set - only to line pockets, over any kind of consumer fairness. Greed speaks better to them than reason.

T24549d ago

There's a 15 page thread on gaf about this, not one person there supports it... There's no justification for 35 dollar McClaren f1 in a 60 dollar game. None.

Volkama4549d ago

There is no justification for a 50cent McClaren F1 in a 60 dollar game either.

Not strictly true, DLC cars and carpacks make some sense I suppose. Instead I will say there is no justification for any monetary value being an alternative to playing the game.

urwifeminder4549d ago

Have 2,000 tokens saved and 1.8 million in the bank saving up for the Nikki Lauda car never played a racer on controller with so much feel.

dragon824549d ago

That's more than the cost of the game. LOL

Top 10 Rarest Cars in Forza History

KeenGamer: "See the top 10 rarest cars to ever appear in Forza history! Thousands of cars have been featured in Forza since launch and only a handful of them have been really difficult to obtain or, in current state, impossible to drive around with. Although they were once obtainable, it's only for a limited time and, most times, for a certain price."

I thought this was going to be about the rarest and most valuable cars in the game, based on real life manufacture numbers and value.

Looking back to 2014 and Forza Motorsport 5 Racing GOTY Edition

Carlos writes - "When it was time for Forza 5 to rock on up to the track, we were just entering the third generation of Xbox consoles, and to show off all that extra horsepower that would come inside the Xbox One, they wanted a flagship title that could truly showcase just what miracles the next generation could perform. And what better title than Microsoft’s beloved racer!"

Such s supreme racing title. Hands down racing franchise of recent decades. Nothing has come close in quality or ratings.

bluefox7552486d ago

Not to mention the worst rated game in the series.

mijayire2485d ago

Apart from Forza 5. Talking about generally the Forza series has always been rated high. Perhaps Forza 5 was rushed for launch. Although made up again by Forza 6 and 7.

IRetrouk2486d ago

I liked the game well enough, it was a good starting point for the new gen and helped them build up to what motorsport 7 is now, the controversies wasnt with the numbers of cars or tracks though, it was more to do with the pc footage being passed off as xbox one, the downgrade from what they originally had shown caused more upset than the numbers.
