"It wasn’t long ago that Xbox was sitting a top of the proverbial gaming world, spouting popularity amongst a large variety of player demographics. In fact, it’s incredible just how damaging a single business decision can be, and despite being an adult, I almost feel as if I should feel ashamed to say I support the Xbox One. I don’t however, and whilst DRM is clearly a touchy subject within the industry, I respect Microsoft’s ambitions from a business point of view, despite the fact that as a “gamer”, I did not agree with their direction. Personally, I resonate well with Sony because they have a traditional mentality when it comes to gaming, and i’m more comfortable with that. And yet, I anticipate Xbox One that much more because of their unpredictability and their willingness to invest in what is trending. Admittedly, that might come across as a bit soulless, but it doesn’t mean what they invest in will be." - William Kirk of GameCloud.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

LucasArts gave Jango Fett his own game in 2002, and it pulled Star Wars into a much dirtier, rougher, and more interesting corner of the galaxy.

Dear team,
Xbox has always been different.
We started with a simple idea. Games should bring people together through shared experiences. That led to the first Xbox in 2001, Xbox Live in 2002, and new ways to connect, from friends lists and achievements to parties and play across devices. Today, Xbox reaches over 500 million players around the world, with some of the most important franchises in entertainment.
If they go back to exclusive games it at least shows that they are finally getting it. They would be turning down immediate money for something that will potentially workout in the long term.
Only issue is they've already opened Pandora's box. A lot of their base has moved to PC or jumped to PS. So will be a long road to get back on track.
We have been saying this from day one exclusives are a must if you are going to be selling hardware look at Nintendo and Sony before Jim Ryan. That's the proven formula. You had some that were deluded and blinded by loyalty accepting that multiplat was the future and that MS was merely getting ahead of where the industry was headed, but at least they can finally see the light and agree with what everyone has been saying for a decade+
Despite all of that, it's clear that Microsoft's Xbox division is broken beyond repair.
"Dead Rising 3 is the only true next gen game"
"The large scale and sheer amount of enemies on screen"
Oh you mean like dynasty warriors has done for years? Sorry but having vast quantities of enemies on screen is hardly a hallmark for a true next gen experience. I would argue that The Last of Us with its combination of gorgeous visuals, deep story driven gameplay and arguably the best character performances I've ever experienced are hallmarks of next gen expectations.. Yet thats a PS3 title, true next gen titles wont appear for a while..
It's not just the amount of enemies, so much as the amount of free acting/thinking varied enemies. dynasty warriors has hundreds of clones with the same skin and terribad ai.
Dead Rising has approaching a thousand zombies on screen when you get out into the streets, each one acting individually.
Dead Rising also has the best intergration of the Xbones unique features like kinect and rumble triggers. I'd say that makes it more next gen than most other launch games.
I'd argue Ryse is next gen visually if not in gameplay. Forza is a step up more than a jump.
Only if it works, and you don't mind repeating commands over and over.
I will see tomorrow, I still haven't been able to get my xboxone from ups. MS has this restriction where you can't pick it up from the ups shipping ware house so I have to wait till tomorrow and wait for the guy to return.
The title of this story ask the question is the Xbox One next gen yet and I answer that question with to earlier for determination. So as not to come off as being bias or a fan boy my answer applies to the PS4 as well. You see I'm from the old skool a gamer better yet a GameBoy who ever has the games that's the one I'm playing.
Now if you take a close look at the Xbox One & PS4 hardware neither is really offering anything next gen.
* Both now have Blu-ray drives and if you recall the 360 had HD DVD while the PS3 boasted Blu-ray.
* Still both incorporate standard hard disk drives not it's primary competitor flash memory and/or solid state drives.
* The ability to run apps such as Hulu, Crackle, Twitch, Epix and many more this feature was done and offered last gen.
* Do you really think the 360 & PS3 of not being capable of running these newly acquired apps such as NBA Gametime, NFL or Live TV. I'll admit it would not be possible without contract agreements in place to do so, which they conveniently saved or acquired for their new systems.
* Improved CPU & GPU, increases in memory and video resolutions they've got it up to 4K. Problem is games will not be running in that resolution and how much 4K media is currently available to the mass public.
* Motherpusbucket the Kinect and PS Eye is back new and improved and better than ever or are they. The Kinect 2.0 boast over 50 voice command functions and comes included with every Xbox One, while the PS4 Eye has far less voice command functionality out the box.
The issue is these commands share similarity with ones you give your dog if you have one. Do they really understand you or do they follow the command due to your tone of voice and follow a triggered behavior. Siri anyone, don't get me wrong "Xbox On" seems cool and possibly convenient at first but the novelty will soon fade. Can it respond back to you if their is a problem or just follow the command blindly because it was triggered. For example "Xbox On" "I cannot the power is out" or " Their is a problem with your Xbox One". Still the use of these additional accessories included or purchased separately depends on how the software developers take advantage and utilize them in functional and/or useful ways.
* Now my comments may be a bit harsh for some to accept of their new purchase(s) but the next gen will come from the games which again none of the launch titles have showcased as of yet and rarely do.
* DR3 was the most mentioned in the comment section and IMO it's not next gen. For anyone that has played previous versions of DR visuals and scale was it's best feature so with a more powerful CPU & GPU and increased memory DR3 as it stands was a given. They improved on some of it's past flaws while others remained and new ones showed up now this maybe one of the best titles for the Xbox One until 2014 that does not make it next gen.
* I know my comment has turned into more of an article I apologize for that I can get long winded. But whether you agree with me or not you'll think about what I've stated and will continue to look forward to the next gen game to justify the purchase of your Xbox One, PS4, Wii U or all three.
Enjoy :)
