What's interesting about this, although there ain't no 100% certainty the deal will get finalized, but:
If Sony had already made up their mind to step out of negotiations, there wouldn't be much reasons now to confirm an intent after 3 weeks this news had appeared for the first time.

The deal is about to be finalized. The takeover of Kadokawa will be announced before December, 31st 2024.

Yup writing was on the wall when Kadokawa themselves issued a press release that Sony had intent to purchase them. Sony effectively has a massive stable of anime IPs with this, Fromsoft is the icing on the proverbial cake.
On a side note, this deal is significant for more than video games alone. Sony is one of the biggest Anime publishers (if not the biggest), and Kadokawa is also a major Anime publisher with some significant ips under its belt.

I typically despise buyouts. I'm still not comfortable with this one, but if this is something the employees (i.e., not the execs looking to escape accountability) want, I can't really argue against it.
This becomes easier to swallow if they sell off the anime division, but we know they won't.

Well, luckily Sony is very active in Anime production and publishing, and this acquisition is a part of their efforts to play an even bigger role in Anime. In that sense Im not worried that Kadokawa ip will go dormant or something.

That's my concern, actually. Sony acquiring Kadokawa and getting From Soft/Chun is hardly an issue. It's two studios and while they make great games, they're still kind of niche, especially when a great number of people didn't properly give the Soulsborne genre much thought until Elden Ring.
It's the anime stuff I'm concerned about given how much Sony occupies this market already. I would genuinely be surprised if it goes through specifically for that reason. I would hope that the anime stuff gets sold off to avoid what feels like a budding monopoly.

Since someone is going to get them as Kadokawa have been apparently fending off takeovers from Kakao for a while and after hearing about Kakao along with knowing what Tencent are like, Sony is probably the better option. It was said a while back that apparently Kadokawa approached Sony first just so Kakao didn't get them.

Especially since Kadokawa is currently in such talks, so it doesn't matter with whom specifically. The current situation is proof of the article's claimed sources. And if Kadokawa didn't choose to talk with Sony, they'd still hold the majority of stakes to do so.
Market consolidations always bear risks for customers. Can't we all agree on that? But it's not up to us to decide.

Depends on how big a problem this becomes, Sony don't have the task force to deal with 40 million live users going berserk. Right now it's already making news and it's released in 1 region to a million customers. In 6 months it could be much bigger or not a problem at all.
