Mass Effect's Future is Brightest Without Shepard

Hardcore Gamer: In order to continue with Shepard, the writers would have to declare one ending canon, which I feel betrays the core idea of allowing players to shape their own story. Bioware already took a ton of heat from fans for the lack of impact major decisions had on the end of the trilogy, further nullifying player choice by declaring one ending canon would only drive more fans away.

True, but Mass Effect won't be the same for me without Shepard.

GARRUS...GARRUS...GARRUS...GAR RUS...GARRUS...GARRUS...GARRUS. ..GARRUS...GARRUS...GARRUS...

I think something along the lines of DA: Origins in which u can pick and customize ur hero from like 5 different races with different beginnings. Then u move on, meet new characters, form parties and so on. I would love to see a return to more rpg elements but who knows. I did love ME3 multiplayer and thought it was highly underrated.

Roccetarius4607d ago

The Multiplayer was just another nail in the coffin, but i agree with the rest of what you said.

Mass Effect's future is brightest without Electronic Arts...

Elit3Nick4607d ago

I agree, the changes from ME to ME2 took out a lot of the atmosphere that made the first game so immersive. Although the combat was vastly better in the second IMO, smaller hub worlds, no planet exploration and even the absence of little effects like the Normandy actually staying docked on planets and the decontamination procedure made ME2 feel less atmospheric.

Streamlined for mass appeal...

Honestly, while I love the deep-pocket resources a big company like EA provides in development, I think one of the biggest hindrances to the real creative genius of the Mass Effect series was the constraint of time. I firmly believe that Mass Effect 3 should have been delayed. And I also believe that if it weren't for EA, it would have been.

The Bioware I knew would never have tied off such a beloved franchise with such a half-assed bow.

What a joke. There is no Mass Effect without Shep. Just a lame attempt to conjure nostalgia for a franchise that couldn't manage to end itself properly. Someone needed a course in creative writing.

Mass Effect - N7 DAY 2025

Bioware writes: "Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe."

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed

Like with Fallout, it's starting to feel studios are using TV / Film adaptations when they have no game info to talk about.

toxic-inferno228d ago

I feel the same way.

I mean, how difficult would it be for them to release SOMETHING of substance? Another short trailer? A couple of proper hints? A short story set during the original trilogy, but focused on fringe characters?

Hopefully they're working so hard on the game that they don't have time. But still, with every passing year and so little to show, the franchise will be slipping further and further from people's minds.

Profchaos227d ago

Yeah agree it's almost a cop out since Dev times are 5 to 10 years just throw out a few seasons instead you get them done in a year

I still haven’t beat Andromeda. I am waiting for a lull of good games in my backlog

P_Bomb228d ago

So the TV show will take place after the OG trilogy. I wonder which ending they’ll use?

Should’ve just posted a picture of an Elcor saying “regretfully, we have nothing to share.”

anast561d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine561d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast561d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman561d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast560d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave809d ago (Edited 809d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
