But i have to disagree, a large quantity of people who owned a ps2 at some point either owned another console or more than one console, so if you combine the total sales of all the 3 consoles of the last generation it would come to about 150 million (not taking into account any duplicate sales, people buying one selling it on and later buying another), i just cant for the life in me see these numbers doubling, maybe and extra 15-30 million tops but not crazy amounts more

the PS2 was out in japan for years before it came out in europe; the PS3 is NOT charting as high considering its out in all 3 regions.

What strikes me is the lack of increased sales for the 360..shouldn't the 360 start showing improved sales now its been out for 2/3years instead it looks like its tailing off. doesn't look good for 360

what I expected to happen. It is no surprise to me at all that the PS3 is gaining speed. It is also no surprise that Sony's console is now Outselling Msoft's from month to month.

The 360 has lots to offer and is a great system (I have all 3 in my house, PS3, Wii, 360), but it just doesn't have what the PS3 does in the long run.

What system do I use to browse the internet? PS3.
What system do I watch highdef movies on? PS3.
What system do I play COD4, Motorstorm, Resistance, UT3, Burnout Paradise, warhawk, etc... on for free? PS3.
What console allows me to put in a 300 gig HDD, of almost any brand, for under $100? PS3.

Despite the myriad great titles for 360 and the fantastic online service, Msoft's console doesn't allow the freedom and flexibility the PS3 does. It is only a matter of time before the PS3 demonstrates itself as the system of choice for the serious gamer, movie and entertainment media buff.

While I honestly don't know if the PS3 will pass or match the PS2, especially since the PS2 is still selling well, I do believe it will at least sell 100 million consoles over its lifetime. I find it funny that some people believe the PS3 won't even do 60 million. Newsflash, it sells about 11 million a year. 11 mil x 6 = 66 + the 12 million already out there. Thats 78 million at least 6 years from now. I do believe that sales will pick up. A price drop + more great games = better sales.

Sony wanted to repeat the ps2 success. So they basically did repeat Ps2's launch with a couple small factors.
After 2 years ps2 was out FFX, MGS2, GTA3, DMC, GT3. Look wahts coming out after 2 years of ps3: FFXIII, MGS4, GTA4, DMC4, GT5P(plus more games)

PS3's line will trace ps2's line till the end.
