Not being able to play games online and certain one on single player while downloading a demo or etc without it stopping >.>

1.Lazy 3rd party Developers not taking advantage of PS3 Hardware!!!

When I look at Beyond Two Souls,Last Of Us,UNcharted,God OF War and other amazing Exclusives. I just feel ashamed to be a gamer.

DEATHxTHExKIDx4578d ago

-I agree on the fanobiyism it seemed to increase a whole lot during this gen.

-I also agree on the FPS I'm pretty burnt out by them.

-I somewhat agree on the JRPG's. I beat the original Mass effect but, I didnt rlly care about what was happening or going on. Elder scrolls and FAllout imo didnt seem interesting.

-I personally had a lot of fun playing the XIII series. Lost Odyssey is damn good as well. I even enjoyed Star Ocean. PS3 side had me playing Tales of Graces for countless hours. I still need to get Xillia.

KonsoruMasuta4578d ago (Edited 4578d ago )

Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout aren't JRPGs.

I also disagree with the article on that aspect. There were plenty of good JRPGs.

Resonance of Fate.
Tales of vesperia
Lost Odyssey
Ni No Kuni
Eternal Sonata
Demon Souls
Dark Souls

Etc..

I could keep the list going.

DEATHxTHExKIDx4578d ago (Edited 4578d ago )

I know they are not JRPGS. I could have structured that a little better.

Demon/Dark Souls aren't JRPGs, a genre isn't determined by location, even if that's what the J in JRPG implies. JRPG is another way of saying that the story is both the focus, and that the player isn't the protagonist. They just control the protagonist, and sometimes the other characters.

Two of the biggest annoyances this generation for me were:

1: Content tied to different retailers.

I hated that different retailers would have different exclusive content forcing you to decide which content to sacrifice.

2: Embargo's

Honestly, what have these devs/publishers got to hide? While I am all for devs wanting to keep spoilers to a minimum as well as trying control the levels of exposure to generate excitement I can see absolutely no reason to prevent reviews for being available at least a week or two before release. Really annoying!

SaveFerris4577d ago

Gotta agree with you on both points.

Also, the on-disc DLC controversy and the behaviour of fanboys on either side of the console wars.

RexFury4577d ago

DLC nonsense was on my shortlist. Then I thought it never annoyed me personally as much as the others.

RexFury4577d ago

Two really good points there. After writing the article I also thought about the the drop in difficulty in many games.

LoveSpuds4577d ago

@ Save Ferris (great name by the way!)

Yeah I absolutely agree, the whole on disk DLC stuff was a very ropey practice at best.

I agree again, the fanboy thing is annoying but I find its more than that, its the way people talk to each other online or on Forums as a whole that bums me out. Wish people could just be cool to each other more :)

@Rex

Enjoyable article chief, thanks for sharing!

I never found the drop in difficulty that much of an issue as I generally enjoyed playing a game on a medium setting to avoid getting frustrated before replaying on a difficult setting.

I grew up playing Spectrum and C64 as a kid and honestly, how the hell I ever made any progress on those games I have no idea....I am not sure I could do it now. Then again, I am getting on a bit now (38 - gulp!)

SaveFerris4577d ago (Edited 4577d ago )

Thanks for putting up the article @RexFury

And @ LoveSpuds, I'm in agreement with your name too!

This gen has more good jrpgs than any other gen. Just because you didnt own a ps3, psp, ds doesnt mean they dont exist.

Come on.

RexFury4577d ago

The only one I didn't own from what you just stated was a ps3. I am not actually talking about handhelds in the article though. I could have maybe stated that somewhere.

RPGrinder4577d ago

Then you also have to explain how other systems were more popular in Japan so it made sense.

In the end though the wii,ps3, 360, ds, psp, even ios, this was a great jrpg gen

RexFury4577d ago

In reply to your other comment, I think you are missing the point that this is an opinion piece. Just because something is popular in Japan doesn't mean that it is mandatory that I have to like it. It is all about opinions. I am glad you had such a good generation of JRPG's. Unfortunately for me, I did not.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle24d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg30d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree30d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai30d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde31d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy31d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

DivineHand12531d ago (Edited 31d ago )

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
