Game Revolution: Mirror's Edge PC Preview

Game Revolution writes: "EA's forthcoming Mirror's Edge is a city-spanning action title that takes place in the sort of obligatory futuristic urban sprawl you might find in a William Gibson cyberpunk novel or the dystopia of Blade Runner - but with at least one glaring difference. The stereotypical stylistic copout of the Rainy, Grungy Neon Night has been replaced with Stark, Startling Broad Daylight.

From EA's demo event during the 2008 Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco, Mirror's Edge is a cyberpunk take on the contemporary, kinda-sorta urban sport known as 'free running' or, if you want to sound even pooftier about it, 'parkour'. There is a distinction between the two… but the sort of people who would actually bring that up in conversation are routinely atomic-wedgied in most first-world countries.

Players take the role of urban-hottie protagonist Faith, whose job it is in this futuristic urban setting to literally 'run' data or packages from one place to another (in parkour parlance, she would be called a traceuse, the female form of the term traceur). Apparently, the state of electronic surveillance and eavesdropping in the world is such a stranglehold that no information of importance can be trusted to 'traditional' electronic transmission. Runners like Faith and her kin are the only reliable option."

Hopefully the gameplay is good.

its made by EA so i will have to wait and see if there are any dlc rippoffs before i buy it, if there are sadly i wont be buying the game although it has a crisp clean look i have never seen before

It probably won't sell, but made by EA or not this game looks really good for me. I like original games ala Indigo Prophecy, Breakdown, DreamFall etc.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken513d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb513d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno512d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex512d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.

Bioshock still looks fantastic, one of my all time favorites.

Yui_Suzumiya1213d ago

Beyond: Two Souls on PS3 can compete with modern day graphics.

SonyStyled1213d ago (Edited 1213d ago )

Same as Killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3

jasonismoney1212d ago

I wish this was entirely true, but you might want to load up Killzone 2 and Resistance 3 again.

SonyStyled1212d ago

@jason I watched some gameplay videos of KZ2 and R3 on my full screen. They are on par or succeed graphically to the first person shooters mentioned in the article that also launched on the seventh generation of consoles. Try the same and see what you think

cthulhucultist1212d ago

Killzone 3 was super impressive! I could not believe the graphics back then as I was regularly pausing the game to stand in awe looking at the surroundings! Resistance however did not impress me that much. Heavy rain is also another amazing graphically speaking game. It almost felt next gen

Fist4achin1213d ago

I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.

SonyStyled1213d ago

They did for their day. I recently played gears judgement with on the 360 and the draw distance was so blurry. The characters up close look great though

JEECE1212d ago

Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.

iNcRiMiNaTi1212d ago

It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good

JEECE1212d ago

In terms of art style it still holds up.
