The Problem With Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V may have broken all kinds of records in the Guinness World Records but a game of its notoriety is bound to rankle certain groups’ sensibilities and annoy them. Which is how most gamers tend to see the self-righteous “cultural criticism” directed by the so-called “feminists” towards GTA V right from when the moment the first details about the game emerged.

To me it's amazing how quickly I've lost interest in GTA5. I wanted to play online so bad and once everything worked, I didn't care anymore ...probably expected too much.

NYC_Gamer4587d ago (Edited 4587d ago )

I still haven't beat the single player part of the game and had it since launch..Its like i have to force myself to even pop GTA V into the console.

Neonridr4587d ago

Could it be because other things are occupying your mind? Namely that in 3 weeks you will be playing on your brand new shiny console? This is assuming that you preorderd an XB1/PS4..

SuperBlur4587d ago

it's kind of annoying having to sit through what seem to be an ever ending of load screens, but i remain hopeful . GTA V is a mere glimpse of what's to come on next-gen .

r1sh124587d ago

@zod18 i think it depends on what you do online.
I mean I play a mix of TDM/DM Race and missions in freemode.

@nomercyonlyrage hit the nail on the head.
There are too many load screens.

Personally if you have people to play with it is quite fun, the big problem is they are rolling out more and more over time.

E.g - BEing able to create your own playlist, still not available.
They are giving a beach pack or something.
Im not bored of it yet, but I can understand why many others will be.

LOGICWINS4587d ago (Edited 4587d ago )

The online portion is lackluster to me, but the single player is fantastic. If you play ANY game for too long at a time, its going to get redundant. It's best to take breaks or alternate your play sessions with other games. I'm alternating TLOU and Mirror's Edge right now to prevent both experiences from becoming redundant.

The setting in which you play the game can also make a difference. Playing TLOU at night when everyone else is asleep offers a much more tense experience than playing with the lights on and people talking in the background.

ZombieKiller4587d ago (Edited 4587d ago )

@Logic: I'm creating the crimes in GTA, then cleaning them up in Arkham Origins. lol.

KidBroSweets24587d ago

I had a blast playing single player and I would give it 5/5 but it's hard to find joy in gta online without playing with a group a friends and even then, it's hard to mess around and have fun because they complain about losing money when they die since money is a bit tedious(in abundance) and repetitive to obtain. I got to rank 30 in the first couple of days since gta online was released, now I'm at rank 37 and it's been weeks.

Pintheshadows4587d ago

Me too, I loved it at first but after completing it after about 62 hours and starting a new playthrough I just lost interest. I tried online, got to lvl 24 and have not played it for a few weeks now.

Here's the issue:

1. Load screens? Times? This can be remedied very easily (360 specific fix)

- Install the install disc like normal
- Pop a 16 GB thumbdrive into the 360, reformat it
- Install the game disc to the thumbdrive
- Load times get cut by 50%+
- I am ALWAYS the first to join a lobby when we carryover after a mission vote screen, by a solid 30 seconds (so, I still need to wait of course, but* at least when I leave/join/new session it is much faster)

2. The free DLC/Stimulus packages are delayed due to bug fixing... so, y'all need to either be patient and play something else, or just throw in the towel and give up on R*

3. Suggestion for Rockstar - to appease the masses, they should add in Cops n Robbers! How hard could that be? It's basically a free roam team deathmatch. You could even do themed missions. It's the same as the Runners/Hunters missions, but, less formal.

I'm still having a blast. But, to be fair, I can only play for an hour or so a night if I'm lucky. That could be prolonging the enjoyment.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood126d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher125d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake125d ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake134d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09134d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle134d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto134d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle133d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart134d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher133d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle133d ago (Edited 133d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
