PS4 vs Xbox One Visuals Comparison Day One

Omnigamer writes, "With new consoles so close, rumors are flying left and right about the effectiveness of one vs. the other. Many articles claim the new Xbox comes up short in nearly every way, but should we just take their word for it? The majority seems to show the Xbox coming up behind the PS4 in terms of graphics processing, but is it bad enough to actually be worried?"

Ryse arguably looks better than anything for ps4, so I doubt the ps4 is loads more powerful than the X1. If the X1 can produce visuals on par with Ryse, then I know Ill be satisfied with the X1. I don't care if the ps4 is more powerful on paper.

I respect your opinion, i think RYSE looks amazing too but in my opinion Killzone SF is just as good visually, if not a little better. Considering resolution and framerates too.

GiggMan4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Yeah Killzone is on another level. People who say otherwise are bias. When reviews come out and the games release, people will finally be able to put an end to the debate.

What Killzone is doing for consoles is the definition of Next Gen.

darthv724583d ago

Lets be objective on the subject. for all we know, both games began development on the respected current gen platforms. Ryse on 360 and KZ on PS3.

At some point, development was shifted to newer hardware (or at least to comparable PC) and continued to improve. once final specs were dialed in is where the optimizations come into play.

so basically, both games have that next gen polish but are really spruced up current gen projects that became next gen.

That is not a bad thing in any way. it is usually the norm for any launch time frame title. give it about another year (maybe even 2) and we will see REAL next gen visuals.

creatchee4583d ago

@GiggMan

"What Killzone is doing for consoles is the definition of Next Gen."

Let's be completely honest: other than improved visuals, what exactly is so next-genny about Killzone that you would say it defines next-gen? Touchpad support? Killzone games are about one thing and one thing only - graphics. To be honest, I want more out of next-gen than just a prettier coat of paint.

GiggMan4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

@Darth and creatchee, this is my opinion and my opinion only. I agree that both games may have had current gen beginings (I know for a fact that Ryse did, don't know about KZ)

My point is as far as a jumping off point for next gen on consoles Killzone is the best example of where I want things to go. With the current gen (on consoles) a game like KZ shadowfall couldn't exist. I wan't all next gen games (at least on console, you see where I'm going here) to strive for 1080P and the best framerate possible. First party and 3rd party.

That is why I say, Killzone is doing what I want to see done for next gen. At least thriving for the best instead of trying to convince me that something is a better option. (for example MS/Crytek saying 900P is sufficient). What everyone took that stance next gen?

UnHoly_One4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

GiggMan...

BIASED.

Using the word like that it needs to be BIASED.

"People who say otherwise are biased."

OR

"People who say otherwise are showing bias."

Please for the love of god if you are going to use that word at least understand what you are saying.

Sorry, but that's a pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, on topic... Ryse looks better than Killzone.

Let the disagrees commence.

GiggMan4583d ago

@Unholy. Yes Sir!!!

Sorry for the inconvenience, please forgive me. I will try to do better when typing a response on a gaming website.

P.S. Killzone looks better than Ryse.

darthv724583d ago

@gigg...have you ever heard the phrase achieving more with less?

If a game comes out that achieves the visual fidelity of 1080p but is only 900p would you berate it because it isnt truely 1080p? or would you commend the team behind it for making it appear on the same level as 1080p?

I swear some are more fixated on the numbers than the finished product and if its worth playing. People need to take a step back to the 2600 days and get an appreciation for when games were simple yet fun.

i can own all yo asses in combat...

GiggMan4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

@Darth, It's no big deal man. If you're cool with sub 1080P that's ok. I don't want companies to settle that's all. I have a 1080P television that I paid good money for and I want every pixel accounted for.

This is irrelevant anyway, I'm going with the PS4 (Xbox One maybe next year) and Sony seems to think the same way as I do.

*And I'd smoke you in Joust son ;-)

fghtrer3fb5erg4583d ago

One thing for sure, killzone sf in depth is superior to ryse.

Kz sf = Semi open world (more stuff on the screen all at once and still has a crispy in deth)

Ryse = linear (which it may turn out to be superior to kz sf in some areas)

4Sh0w4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Ryse just owns it for next gen graphics. KZ SF is just not there yet, sure it looks great but I think using the same engine is holding it back. Ryse cinematic gameplay graphics jump out at you.

What I've noticed is that some want to use the 1080p vs 900p arguement. Then the same people dont want to talk about the 85k vs 40k polygons??? Isn't the end result suppose to speak for itself in terms of graphics? Then they want to say KZ SF is semi-open world when it just looks linear with just bigger levels, open world suggests you can go where you want and play the game in no particular order. Then they pretend Ryse is a basic game not doing much when the truth is Ryse making trailer shows all the performance capture, mo cap and new tech going on to bring Ryse enviroments to life.= This is why you know Ryse is visually more impressive because now their are a ton of excuses to downplay Ryse vs KZ SF.

Keep in mind that Crytek is a company that sacrifices anything for graphics and that they work a very long time on it.

GarrusVakarian4583d ago

From the video's ive seen (havent played it myself) it seems to be like every other Crytek game, where the graphics are outstanding but the gameplay lacks a little. The slow mo executions look good, but the main combat looks a little clunky and repetitive.

4Sh0w4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

I completely disagree with your opinion, I think the gameplay looks awesome, its bloody, its cinematic close ups, 100's of executions and Marius feels like a badass, probably the only legit criticism I see is that it may get repetitive, which is true for most games of this type.

hello124583d ago

The X box 1 has a better CPU and PS4 better GPU.

PS4 in theory should have better graphics with its first party games.

5O per cent better the PS4 stupid claim.

The XB1 actually has more memory bandwidth. So in theory it could put more stuff on the screen then the PS4.

I think the PS4 is about 10% to 20% better. Its nothing really.

Tooly4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

are you adding ggd3 To esRam again we already went through this thats not how it works

JuniorCE4583d ago

"I think the PS4 is about 10% to 20% better. Its nothing really." at least is your opinion...

GO GOOGLE... the majority of the developers already said about the PS4 is much better than Xbone...

forcefullpower4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Stop spreading this crap as no one know what speed the ps4 cpu is running at.

Destrania4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Don't trick yourself into thinking that the 'in-engine' pre-rendered cinematics of Ryse are what the actual game looks like, otherwise you'll be in for even more dissapointment at launch. The cinematics are miles ahead of the game itself in every aspect. Once again, watch the story trailer and see the jarring back and forth of the fidelity. Also, during actual gameplay, they highly blur everything around the focal point to even get it to run on the hardware. It's ridiculous. The fact that people are buying into the smoke screen is unbelievable, and shows just how naive and dilusional some people are. Killzone SF owns anything else at launch, and doesn't need any tricks to do so. The real-time fidelity is practically on par with Ryse's pre-rendered cinematics, it's insane.

Gozer4582d ago (Edited 4582d ago )

Every thing you see in the videos is in-engine. There is no pre-rendered cgi. It must look pretty impressive for you to mistake it for cgi. Watch these videos and notice how everything in the gameplay is the same as the cutscenes. That's called "in-engine cutscenes"

ya know... i play games for like 20years and i learned one thing...
Game preview, 90% of time, are lies... the game, normaly, don't get the same graphs. as the preview, than i say:
"it's too early to judge...", Game preview will not show what game is the real winner in the graphics, because we can't say who is the "bigger lier", or if there is a lier, puting a game whit graphics much better than the "real thing".

GarrusVakarian4583d ago

I noticed that towards the end of current gen too, the screenshots/trailers always looked a little better than what was actually released.

hello124583d ago

Its annoying how Sony fans ignore the esram and say their console is twice as good as the xb1.

Yet the most viually impressive game shown so far has been Ryse.

GarrusVakarian4583d ago

"Yet the most viually impressive game shown so far has been Ryse."

You forgot to add "in my opinion".

thrust4583d ago

No he didn't!

ryse does look amazing no one say it does not :/

JasonKCK4583d ago

It's not a matter of opinion it's a matter of "EYES" and as a PC gamer Ryse looks damn good.

Destrania4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

The 'in-engine' pre-rendered cinematics do, but the game itself? Haha, not even close. Don't make me laugh. Open your eyes to the truth and educate yourself.

JuniorCE4583d ago

Killzone Shadow Fall looks fantastic... Much better in graphics than Ryse, which I played too... Honestly, you are going to get bored in less than 30 mins playing Ryse...

KSF is fun to play... And just pay attention to all details... The Xbone cannot achieve that...

No wonder that Ryse: Son of Rome has only 82,888... It cannot be compared with Killzone: Shadow Fall with 250,155...

Which means, that the xbone fanboys are not even buying Ryse... The first joke of the year ;-)

GarrusVakarian4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

Are they pre order numbers for both games? Damn! Never knew there was so much difference. That's really surprised me.

@JuniorCE

Wow, i didn't know that either. Even more surprising seeing how popular BF3 is on Xbox 360.

@KNWS

You forgot to add "in my opinion", again.

@thrust

What are you talking about?

JuniorCE4583d ago (Edited 4583d ago )

NO wonder EA DICE have said is going to push the PS4's Bf4 version even more...

PS4:
Battlefield 4 - 273,766

Xbone:
Battlefield 4 - 153,221

Ps.: @KNWS I played both games... And Ryse doesn't look as good as KSF does... So I dont understand what you are saying... If you have played both games, and you are expressing your opinion... I respect that... But I cannot agree with you!

@Lukas_Japonicus, these numbers are from the US market... I can't even imagine a greater number in the European Market...

@thrust "its happening..." How?? Can you see the disparity between the PS4 and the Xbone? Ubisoft and EA's games? COD is the number shooter in USA... Everybody knows that (which it looks shit)

Dude NOT EVEN FORZA 5 isn't selling good! Which is going to be a great racing game...

thrust4583d ago

All this will change xbox one cod has over taken ps4 cod!

next will be bf4!

its happening, deal with it :)

MorePowerOfGreen4583d ago

@JuniorCE

Xbox One owners don't have to pre order digital downloads. XB1's cloud features are very popular in the XB1 fanbase.

Many people are going digital because of the upcoming cloud library and share features. Most of the good features from the DRM era will come to digital. Your list is moot.

hello124583d ago

I'm talking about how it looks. No Sony game yet has looked as good as Ryse.

People who've played Ryse only played the mutiplayer.

Comparing Ryse to Shadow fall pre-orders is wrong. Because shadow fall is a shooter. Different audiences for those games.

You have to compare it to a Halo or Gears of war.

twistedtrotty4583d ago

Dont worry yourself with preorder numbers my friend, leave that for the publishers and developers to be concerned, after all they need us more than we need them. And you dont need to compare and judge other games. Enjoy the games your interested in and let other enjoy what they find more interesting. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

obelix014583d ago

Launch games only touch the surface of what a console is capable of. Anyone remember what Perfect dark zero looked like. It was a 360 launch title that didn't look or play much better then a original Xbox game. Now look at games on the 360. Same goes for Ps3. Launch games don't even come close to a consoles full potential.

Quantum Break and Ryse are two that I was really surprised did not get an FPS boost option when played on the Series X|S. when i started playing both on the XBO, I thought they are both good, but after playing them also on my steam deck (in 60fps) I just cant go back and play the base games on XB. They really benefit from that faster frame rate.

Driveclub is another i wished had a HFR mode on PS5.

MatrixxGT557d ago

Most games this gen are the exact same except now we get faster loading through SSD and a res and fps bump. Graphically not much has improved, hell most last gen games are being relabeled and resold as “remastered” with the aforementioned updates.
I haven’t seen or played anything on either platform that couldn’t be run on last gen. Guess the law of diminishing returns is really showing itself these days.

127maXimus557d ago

Most games from 20 years ago are basically the same as today, with resolution and fps upgrades. The AI is still just as braindead as it always has been, worlds are full of static, boring characters that do the same thing over and over.

Demetrius557d ago

Smh another reason why graphics haven't improved that much is because most devs too caught up on cross gen. Ps4 was/still a dope console but time has moved on we're halfway close to a ps6 reveal and devs still will be making games on last gen in 2025. Then theres Microsoft purposely got the Xbox series s that causes more devs to try to pull strings as much as they can smh. It's a mixed bag of stuff, the only ones I see pushing hardware is sonys studios and even some indie games look better

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX564d ago (Edited 564d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne564d ago (Edited 564d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro564d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken564d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown564d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72564d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken564d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya564d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast564d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood564d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.
