Is the end of Capcom approaching?

Capcom are feeling the effects of not listening to their fans. Are they under any threat of going under or is it something Level Complete's Sam Hewitt is overlooking?

Sad, but true.

We all knew the beginning of the end had started when they started trying to hard to cater to the mainstream, instead of doing what they were good at. They will be missed.

I hope Inafune does well with Mighty No.9.

RexFury4606d ago

They still have a chance to turn it around I believe. They have ruined their image by not listening to the fans and attempting to milk them for all it is worth.
Capcom own some fantastic IP's but hold back on making sequels.

jimbobwahey4606d ago

Their problem is offloading game development to Western studios, who then proceeded to butcher Capcom's franchises. If they had kept everything in-house and more importantly, catered to fans rather than giving them the finger, they wouldn't be in this mess.

If Capcom goes under, I hope other publishers and developers take note of why it has happened, and start listening to their fans for a change. We're the ones who line their pockets, and as Capcom is now demonstrating, if you ignore us it's dangerous.

Hopefully Ninja Theory goes under, too.

-Foxtrot4606d ago

I'd rather see the IP's go to other companies and Capcom go down....they arn't going to get any better.

As I've said before

Resident Evil, DMC - Sony

Dead Rising, Lost Planet - Microsoft

Monster Hunter, Megaman - Nintendo

You get the idea

Blackdeath_6634606d ago

@-Foxtrot
monster hunter has done well on nintendo and is a console seller for the japanese market i really do hope one day we will see a massive PS4/PSvita Monster Hunter game

M$ really damaged Japan with their money

If these big Japanese developers stood their ground and whore themselves with M$ money, not whore themselves by being westernized, preserved their self worth and identity they could have fared better than ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

I hope this message will wake them up and save themselves from M$

If I were capcom I would hand over the Resident Evil franchise to the brilliant minds to the new sci-fi horror kings over at tell tale games and let them turn RE around.

Baka-akaB4606d ago

No , they need to stop giving their franchise away to external studios , western or otherwise . And muster the will to do a good job over trying to cash on tons of dlcs or the cod crowd .

Enemy4605d ago

Lol no. I don't need my Resident Evil to be an interactive novel either.

Hand over the franchise to Sony. They'll put their best developers on it. The Last of Us is pretty much better than any Resident Evil ever made.

ZHZ904606d ago

Even though I feel sad with Capcom has done this genn like downhill RE and DMC, milking SF and cancelling Megaman games in a row, I will feel more upset if they got closed.

When you start bending over for people who don't even care about you past tomorrow, and forget all the people who earned you the money you have to currently spend.

Yea you've screwed up pretty bad

They will not be missed by me. I hope ea is next.

Hopefully. Also:

>giving money to crapcom

kayoss4605d ago

How are they losing money? I don't get it. Monster hunter sold very very very well. They should get monster hunters onto different platforms. This is what they get for making certain games exclusives.

SuperBlur4606d ago

I wouldnt miss capcom crapy dlc scheme nor their subpar games from recent years.
Resident Evil - Wtf happened?
Dead Rising - an okay game with 100 dlc shoved in it
SSF - Talk about milking. Only its fanbase are still buying it
Dragon Dogma - a failing title riddled with umwanted dlc.
Devil May Cry - Uh talk about droppin the ball on a great franchise
Megaman - Why the f'ing hate on it , Capcom?
Lost planet - cant really say a thing on it , i've never played it cause it doea not appeal me , same goes to monster hunter.

RexFury4606d ago

They own a few IP's that are only big in Japan. They absolutely love Lost Planet and Monster Hunter over there.

kratos_TheGoat4606d ago

lost plant 2& 3 flop in japan so how that title is big over there

Knushwood Butt4605d ago

lulz, since when is Lost Planet loved in Japan!

You should read the Amazon reviews for LP3; many people class it as, 'kusoge-' (literally s**t game).

Furthermore, it was only recently released, but is already around the 1,500 JPY mark because nobody wants it.

SuperBlur4606d ago

i'd like the "disagreer" to speak up , DEBATE IT WITH ME ! you could maybe change my perception !

dboyman4606d ago

Stop making Monster Hunter exclusive to Nintendo, and make Monster Hunter 5 for the Sony platforms as well....

Feralkitsune4606d ago

Dragon's Dogma is one of their best games in ages if you ask me, along with the Monster Hunter Series.

Aleithian4605d ago

Agreed. I'd hate to see DD2 go unreleased. And DD has one of the best online communities I've ever seen (the pawn community).

SuicidalTendencies4606d ago

You obviously never played Dead Rising. It barely had any DLC and it was all free in the first game.

saikorican4606d ago

Hey now, Dragon's Dogma was a good rpg and the dark Arisen Dlc was fun. The rest I feel basically the same on, still mad about dmc.

They've had games developed by western studios that all bombed. What were they thinking?

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

StoneColdCrazy66d ago

That’s what happens when you start shutting down your own studios and forget what actually made you matter in the industry in the first place. Sony used to set the standard — now it feels like they’ve lost that identity. And if they decide to walk away from the PC market too, that’s going to be another huge mistake — that platform is only growing, and ignoring it now would just put them even further behind.

1Victor66d ago

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher66d ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

66d ago
thesoftware73066d ago

1Victor,

I don't wanna speak for Christopher, but like most of us we recognize that Sony's output this Gen has been way below their own standards.

Also Sony did buy a fair amount of Devs, I know you will say they were not publishers, and don't compare in size, but they had their fair share of Aquisitions, including the very well established Bungie.

The overall point is with their stellar first party track record of the past, they should not be going down, they are singled out because they are some of the best videogame devs/publisher on the planet...no matter what reasons we attribute to the situation, they are moving in the wrong direction... period.

66d ago
KyRo65d ago

Its widely accept that Sony this generation has been underwhelming. We've had more peripheral releases, controller variants, PS5 accessories than games it feels like. The exclusives were also PS4 and what little output they have put exclusively on PS5 is nowhere near as memorable as what came in every generation before that.

This isn't a Sony hate post but anyone who's older and has been around for a long time gaming will agree that PS5 is by far Sony's worst generation. As much as Xbox is in the gutter, I pray the do bounce back in the hope we get Sony to wake up again.

darthv7265d ago (Edited 65d ago )

If you want to critique MS... you are doing so towards their management. The games output and their hardware have been much better than PS this gen. Sadly... people still hold a grudge against XB because of MS. Thankfully i am not that petty... I've been enjoying their games output in the drought of PS. And add in some NS1/2 games as well to balance things out. Things will change for me once Wolverine hits, and I start using my 5 more. That one I'm looking forward to. And the Marvel fighter... I'm not a GTA player so that has no bearing on my view of things.

Big part of that has been the live service push resulting in cancellation or flop after flop but when they put out the games their fans want we get amazing stuff like astro bot

Leadership really screwed the pooch trend chasing

Well I apologize I was wrong about not doing worse but my statement of Microsoft getting a boost still stand 🤷🏿

66d ago
1Victor66d ago

Well OBSCURED unlike you I’m honorable enough to recognize when I’m wrong and apologize.
.
@ The software you know there’s no comparison between what Microsoft acquired and what Sony acquired that’s why you tried to get ahead of the conversation, yes we all know Sony can do better than what they have done this gen but they inhaled the poison GAS they thought would bring money for years but we make sure they got the message and quite a few games got cancelled you know as well a hit like that take years to be corrected and by now they hopefully will have taken steps away from the GAS and slowed their approach to them.

You will say anything when you are in denial that your hardware is dead and nobody wants your platform. Good luck with Helix because nobody will buy it.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher66d ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.

gold_drake66d ago

to be very fair

being number one on these things does not indicate how "well" their games do selling wise.

Capcom Insists It Won't Use AI-Generated Assets in Its Games, Will Harness Tech during Development

Capcom has clarified its current stance on generative AI in its videogames. The major Japanese publisher and developer behind popular series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter has revealed that while it doesn't use gen-AI assets in their games, it is exploring ways to use generative AI to streamline the game development process.

Chocoburger67d ago

Using Artificial Intelligence (more like Realistic Stupidity) art assets in your games is a great way to get people to boycott your product. We don't need that ugly, unsophisticated, generic, fake art in our games, good on CAPCOM for not using that garbage.

blacktiger66d ago

Naw you can't fool us, You work with Nvidia, that's a fact! And here you wanted to advertise but now look stupid!
