Intel has just confirmed that its upcoming Broadwell PC chips would be facing a production delay of up to 3 months.

ah oh well...it sucks in the sense that the new line up would probably result in a price cut on existing offerings (something intel stubbornly refuses to do most of the time)...their desktop line up stands alone if you're willing to pay for it...

and AMD steamroller core'd chips faced the same issue, right? I though the kaveri apu line up was supposed to ship in december, but may go a month or two into 2014 now...I know these two designs are not in direct competition...but its not like AMD is going to be offering as powerful solutions at a cheaper price point any time this year, anyway...

Kaveri is still launching in Dec. 2013. Kaveri desktop will be in early Jan. 2014 and will hit mobile products a few months later as the OEM's mess around with their product lineups and such.

ah ok, i only saw some rumors of a kaveri delay...

Not really sure why this is on news 4 GAMERS.

Broadwell is all about low voltages and mobility. It isn't designed for gaming.

Broadwell is just a die-shrunken version of Haswell. Intel has been focusing on lowering power consumption for years now. The desktop version will still do "gaming", obviously. The only things about it is that max OC headroom might drop down yet again.

Of course, but it doesn't bring anything new to the table for gaming.
Like I said, their 14nm design is really catered more towards notebooks and other mobility products because of the decreased voltages and temps.

If anything it will actually hurt gamers because as you said less OC room.

But of course everyone on N4G disagrees with a very valid statement. Christ, this site...

@NaroonN

You basically just said everything that Out1awed already mentioned. Broadwell offers little to no advantage to gamers over previous chips. It's focused all on low power for portable devices. And some underpowered intergrated gpu junk that no gamer that can afford even a low end gpu, would ever use.

Because people who consider themselves proper gamers probably also consider themselves as tech enthusiasts & like to know as much about the industry as possible?

This is the 'tech' section, it's not like there is news constantly flowing through it, we can't be picky about the news topics we get.

I reiterate, news 4 GAMERS. Maybe if it was a piece of hardware designed first and foremost for gaming.

Otherwise N4G has a specific sister site meant exactly for what you are describing, techspy.com. Otherwise I would agree. I mean come on, your N4G account even works on that site...

Just for the record, I agree with you, and I didn't add any disagrees to you. Not sure why people disagreed with you, but this site might as well do away with the "Agree - Disagree" system because it's fairly stupid. A normal "upvote, downvote" system would encourage people to only downvote posts when they are outright trolling or just being dicks or something.

Anyway, yeah Broadwell won't do anything for gaming, but did Haswell do anything, and did Ivy Bridge do anything? Not really, besides 5% incremental performance upgrades which gave Sandy Bridge users no valid reason to upgrade. This won't change anytime soon. We don't really need more CPU performance for games anyway, as most of them are GPU bound.

And just for the record, I totally agree with you too lol.

My only complaint was the fact that this was listed on n4g. I have a 3930k and from the average tech point of view where everything get's outdated yearly, I'm quite happy with my investment seeing it's "replacments".
