Preview: Battlefield 4 | ModVive

One of the big draws about Battlefield games is the major upgrades each new addition to the series receives. For instance, Battlefield 2 is nothing like Battlefield 3, etc… This is one reason as to why so many people love the Battlefield games and choose them over the Call of Duty games. A lot of people say that Call of Duty games seem to be the same game recycled over and over, so that’s why they love the Battlefield series so much.

As an avid BF lover (aka fanboy), I agree completely with this article, sadly. Not in a negative manner as to trash the devs or the game itself. But i really do feel this game is an extension of BF3, and not in a bad way either. I understand almost every franchise game is just a better version of that before it, I was just hoping that BF4 would be a lot more like what they showed at the onset of E3 for consoles.I was so pumped to see dynamic destruction and weather, just to learn the full extent of those was on PC and would be best on PC (not knocking PC either) I honestly have no one to blame but myself for expecting Bad Company like gameplay so I wont trash the console version because of my expectations like some do. I'll still purchase BF4 for PS4 and I know I'll enjoy it, but I wont be jumping on the DLC like in past BF's where it was something I absolutely had to have. I wont hide it, I want Bad Company gameplay, and destruction to be fully satisfied with a BF game again. I may never get that, so I'll enjoy what Dice offers now.

i mostly agree...

the gameplay, on PC at least (haven't bothered with the PS3 version...because my smart phone is twice as powerful...) is improved in the areas it needs to be...for me at least...i like the kit changes (changes to med packs, attachments, etc.)...and the pacing seems to be a very in line with the franchise...

however...BF4 so far...is laced with gimmicks...which i think showed up with bF3, and is possibly even worse for bf4...at least on the beta map...

this 'levelution' stuff isn't what it was illustrated to be...its just a series of scripted things that are kind of set in motion through gameplay...but its in no way dynamic to the actual battle taking place...its just an option given to players to 'do' during a match...

the building falls...its always the same...while it makes a gorgeous trailer...being part of it is kind of laughable...if you're standing on the building's roof as the pillars are blown out...you get a brief period to jump off said roof...if you don't...do you fall to your death in some sort of ridiculously awesome cloud of debris?...no...you fall over dead...instantly...in mid air for absolutely no reason...same thing if the building drops near you...its not like a big chunk of concrete crushes your helpless toon...you just drop dead because you, by what the devs decided, were slightly too close...

its just cheesy after the first few times you take part of it...the building always drops the exact same way...its always dangerous past a certain line, and not behind it...it also does almost nothing to change the tide of the battle...it just gives campers one less, out of 20, roof tops to hang out on and do nothing...

I worry that the rest of the maps are going to be similarly scripted...I think its mostly annoying because the game takes itself so seriously...all this 'epic' this and that...when in reality its just one scripted event that really doesn't effect anything...if it had a BC style of humor, and could kind of make fun of itself, it might have sat a little better with me...

still a fun game...still buying it and will play the piss out of it...but i'll by no means ever defend the title against its bf3.5 label that is sort of unanimously accpeted to far...don't care, bf3 was a great game too...just would like to see future installments really address some fundamental 'destruction' problems we all seem to be having...

@kleptic. Well said. I agree totally about the BF3.5 label and couldn't have said it better myself about the "levelution"

Bad Company single player was great but I didn't care for the multiplayer. I loved BF3 multiplayer but hated the campaign. The DLC for BF3 was pretty good but nothing I felt like I needed to have. DICE has my money for BF4 and Premium but if they continue down the same path as CoD then I'm moving on to something else. Maybe I'm just getting tired of military shooters. Hopefully Titanfall is as great as they say it is or maybe Destiny will take over the top spot for FPS.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot1511d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw2501510d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface1510d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop1510d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno1510d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel1511d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps1510d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge1028881510d ago (Edited 1510d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k331510d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge1028881510d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH1510d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

There's a bunch of great shooters on gamepass; both legacy and new.

A recommendation I have is a work in progress preview title called Anacrusis. It's a lot of fun, and has a cool aesthetic.

5 Games That Started Out As A Buggy Mess

KeenGamer: "Sometimes a game starts out as a buggy mess and we all just stop and think, “that definitely could have spent a bit more time in the oven”. This is the case for these 5 games which infamously marked their place in recent game memory."
