Apple-Logitech pairing a potential Nintendo handheld killer

Leaked photos of a Logitech gaming accessory for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch should be sending a shiver down the spines of Nintendo executives.

Apple's "iDevices," including the iPhone and iPad, have been making major inroads into the mobile gaming space in recent years. Many kids are shifting to playing games on Apple's touchscreen phones and tablets at the expense of Nintendo's once-dominant handheld devices.

a handheld for 600$? yes of course!
and for what? for playing retards android games.

Geez, nobody gets jokes nowadays -___-
I meant that this whole article is laughibly stupid

ATi_Elite4602d ago

i said it once and i'll say it again..

Nintendo will be just a third party publisher in 5 years. No more hardware.

Nintendo and Sony should of made their handhelds with phone features because that is what kids want and now more devs will make games for ios thanks to this controller.

iPhone 5 plastic version will be cheap enough for mommy/daddy to buy little johnny one. mommy/daddy can track little johnny and lil johnny can plays games for $5.99 or less instead of $30 for psvita or 3ds games.

krazykombatant4602d ago

People have been saying this for ages and ages and I hasn't happened. The day Ninty goes 3rd party it will be a sad day for the Gaming Industry.

RTheRebel4602d ago

Yet Nintendo is still making profit, even when the Wii U is bombing.
Now go play your lagfest of a game Rome 2 ;)

EZMickey4602d ago

I gotta agree with krazykombatant, people have been predicting Nintendo's downfall literally since they started and I'll bet any amount of cash you like against your prediction that 5 years from now Nintendo will only make software.

Aside from the fact that Nintendo is so wealthy they can afford to make losses for the next five years, historically speaking, Nintendo's 1st party software is what shifts its hardware. An Apple i-device as a gaming machine is reliant entirely on 3rd party software, sure the games might be cheaper and in a greater abundance, but the quality in the games just does not compare and there just isn't anything on iOS that is as iconic as Mario Bros., not even close.

Also, kids play with parents smartphones and tablets because they leave those devices lying around and give their kids access. Parents I've dealt with while working in retail ALWAYS turn to buying their kids a dedicated handheld as a reaction to the kids playing with their devices. For two reasons, one being none of them trusts their kids with a phone. You want access to iOS? You need billing information. You also give them access to the internet as well as social networks. etc. Parents don't want to monitor that, they just want to give the kid a device. The second reason is that parents don't recognize Apple devices as gaming devices, because they aren't. Not at their core.

That is the fundamental difference between a dedicated gaming device and a non-dedicated gaming device.

fun fact. Nintendo started out as a Third Party Publisher on Atari.

all i know is that when i go to the mall or just out in general i see more kids with high end smart phones than i do vita or Ds3.

not to say that these same kids do not have a vita or 3ds laying around somewhere but i just do not see handhelds that much anymore.

Seems like anytime anything has been deemed a ______ killer, it usually isn't.

for we are many4602d ago

Looks like early 90's Nokia mobile phones.

My initial response to the title: with what library?

kratos_TheGoat4602d ago

hahaha nintendo killer what a joke phone games suck

Studio-YaMi4602d ago

Not even that, the PSVita which is a superior handheld that is also dedicated for gaming & a damn good one too could not dethrone or reach the 3DS success, don't know what kind of weed these "investors" are smoking, but they need to stop! xD LOL

No Crappy logitech peripheral attached to an iphone or any smart phones for the time being and maybe a couple of years more is gonna even TOUCH the dedicated handheld markets that the 3DS and the PSVita is dominating in.

TheGamingArt4602d ago

You do realize the profit margin for iOS games eclipse the profit margin of all dedicate handhelds combined right? I'd call that more than a scratch whether you want to agree with it or not. Not to mention that there's over 600 million iPhones out there already sold......

Misaka_x_Touma4601d ago

@TheGamingArt

1. The games are free and damn cheap
2. Low quality and budget
3. No Gamer Appeal

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure65d ago (Edited 65d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer66d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot66d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box65d ago (Edited 65d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno66d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay66d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno64d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK65d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
