Eh, my expectations aren't that high. I always liked Doom3's engine better than the original Source engine, I think the Gravity Gun is lame, and Half-life 2's story is vague and poorly delivered. In order to modernize HL3, they will have to change a massive amount of how they make games. For one, they will have to make Gordon talk. They need to update controls, use a limited inventory, add more realistic AI and destructible environments. Most importantly, they need a better storyline that doesn't just jerk you around. Gordon should actually be out to accomplish something in HL3, instead of just launching another rocket or getting from A to B.

That is all what the whole article is trying to tell us. No justification, reasons why it will suck, no first hand account, sneak peak or even nit picking rumors. Just an article telling readers to stop speculating and hyping because it will not meet our expectations. That's about it.

The people who never played Half-Life before and are just caught up in the hype will probably be disappointed because they dont know what to expect. while the people who played the other Half-Life games wont be disappointed.

I'm pretty sure many were thinking the same thing about Half-Life 2, yet, it was a landmark game that left its mark in the gaming landscape, may it be for the game design, the Source engine or it's Steam integration. Will Half-Life 3 be a revolutionary product? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it will be awesome. Will it meet everyone's expectations? Probably not, but that's not the game's fault, it's just the usual problem of people having crazy expectations that simply cannot be met. By now, some people probably expect it to be the best looking game ever, with a 60 hours long campaign and a super robust multiplayer; chances are, it won't have any of those, but that's okay and people will have to accept it when (if) HL3 is ever released.

Well see if it ever comes into exaistence. Yes I do see a lot of people getting mad because the hype for this game is out of this solar system and valve and only do so much to satisfy everyone. DNF was deemed a failure even though is was exactly like old DN games, only reason it failed was due to fans putting so much hype into it they couldn't see anything but their disappointment. If a FF7 remake ever happens fans will be so mad because of things that would change compared to the original and now.

I've given up waiting for half life 3. I'll buy it day one when it dose release (if in our lifetime) but I won't be excited until it is in my hands while I'm walking out of the store. Though I do worry that with the portal universe having grown so big and it beig apart of the HL universe that things are going to get affect and them having to try and please two sets of fans now.

I'll honestly be surprised if valve does announce half life 3 or change the 3 to a subtitle because they are terrified of the number 3 for whatever reason. Rumors popup every other month that it will be announced but it never does.

I'm sure alot of people said the same about portal 1 and alot of people liked the 2nd portal better. There are lots of games that people thought couldn't get better, yet when the sequel comes out it is.

I feel like this game will go the way of Duke Nukem Forever. So much hype that there is no way Devs can possibly deliver.

I would love to see a very successful Half-Life 3 but with the bar set so high and the amount of FPS games that have come out since HL2, and games still coming out in the future, I have no faith that this would be any different then a generic Sci-fi FPS.
