Delaying Multiplayer: Good Strategy for Single Player?

PlayStation Beat: Is Rockstar Games on to something here? Should more games lock the multiplayer for 1-2 weeks to allow you to experience the single player component in more detail? Or is this just an excuse?

I would hate it because I buy most my games just for the MP. Anyways lets say they did I would just wait until the MP unlocks go to the store and buy it used.

LackTrue4K4613d ago

this was a great move by Rock*!!!

they had a very low % of players that finished 4 (including me).

On V it really wasn't needed, the game its self/story is strong!

abusador4613d ago

I never finished 4 bcus I hated it and it was boring. I've finished over 95% of my so games all the while playing mp so I think that's a dumb excuse, ppl couldnt pry me from Tlou sp.

Setting a policy tht we get part of a game we already paid for later on is stupidity. Rockstar didn't do it bcus thy planned too, thy did it bcus online wasn't ready and this their fault.

Gaming1014613d ago

Part of it is, a lot of people were trying MP for 2 minutes, and then never going back to it. This was by design to give more dev time to make MP as best as possible, but the distraction of MP could hinder the SP and MP, in that you would ignore one or the other never giving it a chance.

I loved what Rockstar did, it kept a game already ripe with distractions and things to do from being too overwhelming right off the bat.

MysticStrummer4613d ago

To each his own. I thought 4's story was much better, especially the end. I think Rockstar just wasn't quite ready for the multiplayer to start up.

KonsoruMasuta4613d ago

I don't think that's why R* did it. I always thought it was because they needed time to prepare everything and try to get the launch as smooth as possible.

abusador4613d ago

Pure stupidity. A game should be launched when all components are ready. In no way did I agree with Rockstar making us wait for the onlineb component but I do understand things happen but this is not an innovation in how games should be launched. I see when ppl like a company they put a positive spin on anything.

C-Thunder4613d ago

Not saying i'd like it, not saying rockstar did it, but it would be an effective tool to keep people holding onto their purchases a little longer.

admiralvic4613d ago

Or it would be an effective tool to keep people from buying it earlier.

It works for GTA, since people just want to play GTA. Though it won't work as well for Battlefield or Call of Duty.

C-Thunder4613d ago

Agreed, this would only be a good move on a game with a strong single player.

At this point, neither cod or bf should even bother with single player - personal opinion.

BALLARD324613d ago

I think it's good in GTAV's case. Look at the problems they had with the Social Club when the game launched. It would have been a nightmare getting into a game if multiplayer launched on the 17th. They obviously didn't want to delay the game for a second time so instead they took the extra couple of weeks to make sure GTA Online had a smooth launch.

abusador4613d ago

So basically we are in beta testing, Smh. That's why all developers should have beta testing to a large public this would have helped iron out the issues.

PlayStation is GTA and GTA is PlayStation, they're going to kill it when GTA 6 is finally released 😏.

Maybe that's because xbox and PC have much more variety in their online offerings.

ActualWhiteMan32d ago

And the players arent hood rats

S2Killinit31d ago

Like in what parallel universe?

blacktiger31d ago

That might be true but you forget, all of Microsoft 1st part games are also available on Playstation and soon day one release

I know of people that own a PS4 exclusively to play gta5, and that’s all they play. I’m sure some of you here know of someone too. I’m surprised at how low the revenue for PC is.

CrimsonIdol31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

I can't tell you what it's like on PS5 but it's absolutely horrific on PC. My experience is constant hackers and a game that feels like it hates you playing with your own friends too, always seems like a chore to manage to join some minigame together without somehow ending up in different server instances n shit. If I were going to bother with it I'd probably do it on console too.

My guess is also that there are modded versions of GTA online with massive communities on PC that are way better than the rockstar approved version and Rockstar isn't making money out of those.

S2Killinit31d ago

Those are the types of things people forget when they are talking about PC gaming.

ActualWhiteMan32d ago

That’s because most PlayStation fans are ghetto. Source…Every ghetto person I know, plays on PlayStation.

Outside_ofthe_Box31d ago

Rich folks like Epstein did play Xbox, so maybe you're right.

S2Killinit31d ago

Lol maybe you need a new perspective on life?

Aloymetal31d ago

Be glad the ''ghetto'' PS fans around the globe are spending money because they're practically single handedly keeping the gaming industry from crashing and burning. Can't say the same for MS and their miniscule green fanbase.

ChunkyMonk31d ago

Yet those "PS fans" didn't save Concord, Marathon, Highguard or Helldivers 2. Hell, Helldivers 2 and Marathon are only on life support cuz of PC. lol

blacktiger31d ago

ghetto or not, they are gamers right? Now what about Call of Duty same thing>?

Actually really surprised with the PC revenue which is an abysmal 3% overall vs Console (PS and Xbox combined) at a whopping 97%. It now makes sense why Take Two/Rockstar prioritizes Consoles. Heck, they could even delay the PC port release 2 to 3 years and it wouldn't make any impact at all.

ocelot0731d ago

I think its due to FIVEm. A lot of GTA PC players seem to just play that so don't need the shark cards or a way to even use them for fivem.

LostPotato31d ago

They already delay PC ports by a year or two already so nothing new.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty121d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan121d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher121d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty121d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies12121d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.
