With all these changes in power and leadership the X1 seems to be holding surprisingly steady with current mishaps such as downgrade in certain games and weak Drivers from certain devs.

I just hope MS comes ready at launch if not delay it 6 months. Its not the most popular conclusion but it makes sense.

P0werVR4613d ago

Microsoft defined in what we do and enjoy beyond gaming.

Minute Man 7214613d ago

They really don't care about gamers, Micro believed they have the gamers on lock and that's why they didn't aim for better graphics but aimed for DRM. It's the 3rd console curse

P0werVR4613d ago

WRONG!

Until 5 years from now, people will see the direction that was supposedly to be taken.

Digitalization is inevitable. Like cassetes before, discs will be in the rear view mirror and when that happens DRMs will be common.

Allsystemgamer4613d ago

@p0wer

Until bandwidth becomes more affordable and readily available in places other than the states it's NOT going to happen. Hell I only get 120gb a month. 20gb per game PLUS streaming, music etc? Yea ok MS let's go digital.

P0werVR4613d ago

^

If you haven't noticed, everything moves forward. For you to be so fixated on the idea in sense that we will not move forward is just ridiculous. FCC set a challenging that every state should have a community of fiber optics and Google answered that call with Google Fiber.

And with that threat to the neck of other ISP providers, watch em' slowly all fall in line.

CynicalKelly4613d ago (Edited 4613d ago )

It's really hard to read comments like this without tearing my hair out. Do you really think any of them care about gamers? No! Of course not. All these companies care about is competing for consumers.

It's hard to bare watching people claim that Microsoft don't care but the company that has patented technology to prevent used games being played truly care. It's pathetic how many people fall victim to good PR.

SniperControl4613d ago (Edited 4613d ago )

@power

Not with a non changeable 500gb hdd its not.

RiPPn4613d ago

Stable of douchebags, one of many reasons my support for Microsoft ends this gen.

Pogmathoin4613d ago

I still do not know what defines 'gamers' . Apparently i am not one because i am getting both at launch. I am supposed to be stupid and pick a side, deprive myself of great games and maniacally defend my choice, even if it is untrue...

CynicalKelly4613d ago

I will be getting both because I am a "Game"r any allegiance I have is to the games, not the companies that make the platform I play on.

But despite that, I get called a fanboy all the time. I was a PS3 fanboy last gen despite prefering my 360 and now I am an Xbox fanboy because I don't hate the Xbox One.

Some idiot even went as far as to say I didn't deserve to have my money If I was going to buy an Xbox with it. Couldn't understand the fact that people like different things. He actually said I should donate it if I was going to waste it and he was being serious.

Fanboys. Truly are the cancer of our communities.

Shane Kim4613d ago

Why is it suddenly wrong to choose one brand over the other. We do it all the time with everything we buy and have done so since the dawn of having something to choose. Just because you dislike a product or manufacturer doesn't make you a retarded SOB.

For example, MS has much smaller first party studios than Sony does, wich automatically means that Sony will have more exclusive titles (3rd party exclusive are not guaranteed anymore) that's why I choose to buy a PS4 and a PS3 in the past. I can play all 360 games either on PS3 or PC except for Gears 2&3 and some Halo titles. That is not enough for me. The same thing will probably happen this gen. After the first year, exclusive games will be a rarity on the xboxOne, just like with the 360.

SniperControl4613d ago

Well said, thats how I feel.

I will look into getting a X1 sometime next christmas, but only if the price drops to below £300 and there is no kinect bundled in the box, also depends if there is gonna be a new Gears for it as well, one of my favorite ip's on 360.

AngelicIceDiamond4613d ago

"After the first year, exclusive games will be a rarity on the xboxOne, just like with the 360."

And that's where your wrong my friend. you make assumptions based off what happened to the 360. The 360 had at least 3 or 4 exclusive games that turned X1.

MS stated many, many times they still have allot more exclusive games to come.

If you think after the first year MS will Sony take all the first party glory and potentially make that 1 or 2 killer app game that's a system seller you have another thing coming.

When and if MS changes direction again they'll do it at the time when they have a big install base and casuals start making up the market.

you know, that time period where the rest of the world stops generally caring about new Ip's(except the internet) and buys the big bangers that they know and love.

thehitman4613d ago

@Diamond this isnt the only year MS hasnt had any big exclusives.. for the last 3 years about they have had only 1 maybe 2 exclusives a year that are worth buying. You said that 3-4 games turned into X1 from 360 games, that just shows the lack of support they have for their platform what will happen to the almost 80mil 360 gamers no more exclusives? Look at the ps3 4 AAA titles released this year (gow:ascension, TLOU, Beyond:Two Souls, GT6) and Sony still has exclusives for the ps4. Just shows you the night and day difference between platforms and that's why many pick 1 over the other. In the end its to each their own but people cant get mad for wanting to support the ps4 over xb1.

Jeedai Infidel4613d ago (Edited 4613d ago )

@Shane Kim "Why is it suddenly wrong to choose one brand over the other."

It's an epidemic these days, and not exclusive to video games. Take a look at the lines that have been drawn with politics in the world as of late, you either join one's side or you are an idiot. Religion has gone from people staying out of it to trying to convince others to not believe in their faith, and if you believe in something, again, you are an idiot.

My theory is that self-esteem and confidence is at an all time low and the only way some people feel secure about themselves is by pointing at others and saying they are wrong.

Shane Kim4613d ago (Edited 4613d ago )

Of course I make assumptions. Just because Fiat's 2014 model isn't out yet I still think it's safe to say that it won't top Ferraris 2014 model based on the history of the car and manufacturer.

Xbox exclusives lacks in contrast to PS if we look at history. That's what I'm basing it off.

Not everyone can afford to pay for two consoles, let alone have the time to play two consoles and then on top of that pay to keep their on line services topped up every year.

Pogmathoin4613d ago

You make some sense Shane, but you are going on past record to say 1st party games on Xbox 1 will be rare? Thats speculation. It is not wrong to choose one side over another, but it is wrong to castigate others for making a choice that is not the same as yours. I too could play games on PC, but prefer putting a disc in and not worry about driver issues, updates, waiting for the patch for my particular issue.... And my TV...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio16d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing16d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9216d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit16d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing16d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9216d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay18d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn218d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn218d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown18d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay18d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay18d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac17d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger18d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300018d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde18d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde17d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_17d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
