Grand Theft Boredom

Reuben Williams-Smith of SpawnFirst writes: "Grand Theft Auto V is the latest in the wildly popular GTA series. It took 5 year, cost £170 million ($270 million) to produce and has been touted as the soaring swan song of the current gaming generation. It earned over $1 billion dollars in sales in less than a week, and has been an almost permanent fixture on my news feed since it came out. And I couldn’t care less."

He probably played the story, but realized he would get more hits if he pretended that he didn't

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4636d ago

He says he couldn't care less... and yet he writes about it to get hits on the site.

Classic. I couldn't care less about GTA 5.. and now let me show you how much I care by telling you why I don't care!

StraightPath4636d ago

already working towards 100% competition and still not bored. Amazing and fun game.

Perjoss4636d ago (Edited 4636d ago )

I got 100% in GTA IV and by the end I was still craving more. GTA V is even better. Maybe this guy is just not in the right mood for this kind of game right now, because boring is probably the very last word I would use to describe any GTA game since the first one, let alone V.

omi25p4636d ago

I just spent an hour as Trevor walking around Mount Gordo. Then switched to Frankin and had a midnight street race. Then switched to Michael and lasted 15 minutes on 5 stars.

I fail to see how this game is "boring"

GuyThatPlaysGames4636d ago

Just another troll looking for hits is all he is! Move on people!

Derekvinyard134637d ago

This guy didn't play the story, U get money from the story, so after you get money you can do stuff so you won't be bored. For example, customizing cars. Why are people so picky and stupid? Don't call a game boring if you haven't played it.

KillrateOmega4636d ago (Edited 4636d ago )

"...and though I haven’t experienced the story for myself yet..."

Well there's your problem.

diehllane4636d ago

Agreed.

Totally different point of view if this were released next week after GTAO comes online.

But... For a game that currently ONLY has the offline story mode, what the hell else are you going to do? Free roam without attempting missions absolutely will get boring after a while if you have little or no weapons/cash available.
Play the story.
All those 10/10 reviews...Came from people playing the story.

Ol_G4636d ago

well back in the days gta was fun without doing a single mission just wreaking havoc day and night on the ps1 and gameboy was awesome

H3ADWOUND814636d ago (Edited 4636d ago )

Then why don't you go play test-drive 2?
Later DLC of GTA V might just bring a casino, we had poker & dice games in red dead so it's not impossible...

C L O U D4636d ago (Edited 4636d ago )

That's true, I enjoyed that aspect from Red Dead, hopefully they'll implement that on GTA Online

Omegasyde4636d ago

I remember hearing a radio Ad about an Indian Casino.......

next dlc: GTA5:Lost Wages (las vegaS)

superbhoy4636d ago

maybe they will do some other gta game based in vegas or something

H3ADWOUND814633d ago

Which part are the disagrees for? Test drive 2 has the casino DLC & so did Red Dead plus dice games.. What's to disagree about?

Pintheshadows4636d ago

Considering the poker in RDR was amazing i'm really surprised they didn't include it here and allow you to play with Lester, Franklin, Trevor and Michael with some beers and light ribbing.

Perjoss4636d ago

I spent SO many hours playing poker in RDR.

BattleTorn4636d ago

The Casino, racetrack, and Stadium are all completely empty.

I think those may get filled by DLC.

Pintheshadows4636d ago

I wish I could land a helicopter as Trevor in the stadium during a game.

yarbie10004635d ago

When the game first came out, I saw a building that was a Casino and the first that I thought was - heck yeah! - then I noticed you couldn't go inside :(

What will be cool in the future is when every building is enterable in games like this.

CalebZachary84114636d ago

Yeah a Casino would've been cool. But if you play the story, the game is fantastic. I know i will be messing around for months on this game after i finish the story.

C L O U D4636d ago

Of course, I completed it twice already, saved the Lester assassination missions to last...so far I have 220+ million and have still have a few assassination missions to go!

CalebZachary84114636d ago

You can also redo them, correct?

C L O U D4636d ago

You can but you miss out on the opportunity in the stock market

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood144d ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar143d ago (Edited 143d ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher143d ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake143d ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake152d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz09151d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle151d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto151d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle151d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart151d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher151d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
