they're bragging about 5000 units over the course of an entire month. When you take Europe and Japan into account, it's not like those numbers are really helping them much.

I guess it's better then loosing. This is supposed to be MS's territory. Its still funny that they think this 5000 lead is something special when they used to have the NA market by at least a 2-1 margin.

Conveniently they are now "Stocked" before GTA IV's release. I could recall many people claiming that Microsoft was doing this whole "shortage" thing on purpose. And wow, never thought it'd actually be true.

Even though the 360 beat out the PS3 this month -- the simple fact is: both platforms are selling well. Fact: there has been an increase in demand for both hardware and software this generation. Well the numbers were too close to really celebrate too much but a win is a win. This definately lays some credibility to their hardware shortage excuse for the first 2 months due to the fact that one of their 360 manufactures dropped the 360 and they needed to find another.

Now if April they beat the POS3 by even more then the shortages was not a made up excuse but in fact real.

Thank god I don't listen to Pachter for my financial advice and a big fat F U to that POS vgchartz site which constantly get's it wrong. Even though they did say the 360 was probably going to win their numbers were way off.

I don't think it's fair to say MS has failed with the 360 and that it's in 3rd place. Worldwide official numbers aren't released. Estimates are given for Europe and who knows about sales in other regions. BTW, it'll take sony years to catch up to MS at the rate they're at now.

During the 16 bit era, the Sega Genesis was the #1 system in the US for years, even though it barely made a dent in Japan. At the same time, the PC Engine (Turbografx16 in the US) outsold sega in Japan, but finished a distant third in the US to Genesis and SNES. Looking back on history, which system is remembered as more successful? As long as a console stays popular in the US, Japan numbers are meaningless. MS, Sony, and Nintendo are all in it for the long haul - at least until we adopt a single console standard for the future (but that's another discussion). Just enjoy the games regardless of what console they are on.

Competition is good for gamers.
The PS3 will rock with its great games and even the 360 will have at least another 2 years of great games. Everyone will be pleased.

Well i like how they did blame the shortage but im not really convinced by that, because one for personal experience, if i were to ask for a 360 they were always there, on gamespot on all 3 of them, on toys r us, on best buy i went to the xbox version to see what was new and they had at least 30 elites sitting there and i looked at ps3 a big empty slot with like 3 of them left and one person just carrying one off the shelf so i was like wtf where are these shortages that they are talking about??? When the theory is said *no one finishes the game* and used as an a excuse it bugs the sh*t out of me. The few Real gamers that say this are talking about never finishing every *kill the HO and Jack the Hotdog stand* missions lol. All gamers wan't more main story mission or more new environments etc. lol

I played and beat Saint's Row and didn't bother completing the game I only completed 78% of it literally and wished I had more main story missions and more city at the same time lol.

Some people not finsihing sanbox games mean they don't complete all the tedious BS missions that have no point lol.

That none of the "true" next gen consoles will run away with it this time around, i also find it a bit concerning that the wii is doing so well, with so many numbers its logical to think that alot of dev time will be spent on making games for it thus making less for the proper consoles

and i for one will be buying this game on the 360 simply because of the extra content. only 2 or 3 games for my ps3. If you love this game as much as i do you will buy it and you will want to play it all and also you will want to play the extra content, if you say you dont than you are not a true gamer. There's a lot of truth to people buying the POS3 more as a BD player. I would bet that the POS3 has sold more movies than games. Care to challenge that?

Obviously something Phony is doing in the gaming world is very wrong. Not only has the 360 beat it out most of the way between hardware and title sales, it's doing so with a 20GB HD, no built-in wireless no real, chosen HD drive and then of course there's the RROD as the Phonyites so often like refer to. In many ways, the POS3 has better value in terms of what you get and still, the 360 continues to kick its ass. You POS3 owners can chant all you want that 2008 is the year of the POS3, but you're lying to yourself. As much as you hate to see the writing on the wall, the Xbox is here to stay and will continue to steal your brethren.

When PS3 reaches a lower price point Xbox 360 is in trouble.

Xbox simply doesn't appeal to the casual market like Playstation and Wii do, Xbox 360 is seen more of a nerds toy.

If you are going to reduce a price to get your sales back you need to sell more than 5000.

Jonny sells 10 apples at £50 and the next month sell 12 at 40 pound he has the same amount of cash but at a lower margin. If he sold 20 at £40 he could brag about it.

For starters let’s remind everyone that most of the money is not made from the sale of the console in most cases they lose money. The thing that really matters is attach rate because that’s where the revenue is coming in at. Microsoft is enjoying 49% of the available revenue for the console gaming market, while Sony fights off Nintendo for respectively the other 51%. I would say do the math, 2nd in console sales doesn’t really matter when you’re first in true profits. Nintendo and Sony will have to sale over double to make up in attach rate.

-If it don’t make dollars then it doesn’t make cents; and the argument over how many consoles Sony and Nintendo are selling over MS doesn’t matter when MS is enjoying 60% higher attach rate. MS only has to worry when Sony and Nintendo have double the number consoles MS has sold. Which I don’t think with happen in the current GENS lifetime.

Much respect to the 360, its fans, and its games, but I think the heads at MicroSoft are still worried a tad about the bigger picture:

That since 2006, sales of the 360 have been generally declining, compared to past years. They sold more units in 2006 than they did in 2007 when all their best games came out (you'd think having Halo3 and such land would have boosted console sales, not seen them decline).

I'm not trying to bash the 360, I'm just respectfully pointing out that MS is probably more concearned with the year to year progress, as opposed to a few thousand units week to week.

All the talk is about GTA4 DLC, but I think the bigger picture for MS lies with the exlusives like "Gears 2" and "NinjaGaiden 2" as opposed to the multiplats.

Nah, what is going to be funny is when it's all said and done, the 360 version of GTA4 is going to outsell the PS3 version 2 to 1 and R* is going to rethink their whole approach to this generation.

My 360 died a couple of days ago of a black screen and nothing else.I gave it a good kicking to show my dissatisfaction at this crummy piece of hardware and vowed at that point to give up bothering with the 360 anymore.It's under warranty however but even so i was of the mind to just play some games iv'e yet to finish on other systems like Wii and Xbox1.

I got to thinking how the breaking down of a 360 was likely to make it's owner think about defecting to another company as indeed this had crossed my mind briefly.But then it hit me how if i was to do this, the games i'd originally bought the 360 for in the first place and those already being enjoyed would of course not be on PS3.Games such as Too Human, Fable, Halo3, Crackdown, Halo Wars, Lost Odyssey, Alan Wake etc etc.The point being that 360's breaking although seriously annoying, is in no real danger of having any major effect on people buying them really because people do buy them for all the games they already have.Those with the mind to purchase a 360 at some point are also unlikely to be put off either because the reason they wanted 360 in the first place was those games they had seen.For the minority i can see this as a problem obviously but that's less of an issue.

As well it's nice signing into 360 and seeing what everybody is playing or has been up to regarding ahievements etc and i certainly would miss all that.

There is a lot of great software for this machine and i guess that's why the attachment is so good

This is only natural. Now that a new report came out everyone in the 360 camp will gloat and they deserve it I guess. The last two months the PS3 camp was doing the same. Maybe which ever side you are on, you should just learn to take it.
