Polygon Live: Is SteamOS a console killer?

Polygon - "We made it to a second episode!

Each episode, I will be joined by a fellow member of Polygon's editorial staff to answer an important, unusual or agitating question related to video games. As the show moves forward I hope to hand off hosting duties, so that more Polygon team members across the globe have an opportunity to speak with you directly via video."

not so much a console killer but another alternative to using windows on a tv for playing games.

think of it as the bigger brother to the droid based microconsoles.

Steam os a console killer? Lol

Thehyph4616d ago (Edited 4616d ago )

No, but I wish it were a Polygon killer.

Is it even a console? Thats the question we should be asking ourselfs. It seems like a PC which is more open to upscale it's self to better and bigger TV resolutions for the "living room"

How can you expect to break into the console market and push this to the target audience who have a hard time breaking the PC gaming barrier which mostly comes to money issues.

In my opinion, without pysical discs you can buy, like I could go to a games shop and see, for example Elder Scrolls 6 for Sony, Microsoft, PC and even Valve.

Without out discs I don't see them breaking into the console market. I mean for the console market I feel in my opinion we aren't ready for the digital only age yet. I mean it takes me ages to download some games online even with a good internet connect

It doesn't seem like a PC it IS A PC....It's PC options from PC manufactures

No but with some tinkering it might become good competition to Windows OS.

I think I like listening to these guys far better than watching them. I think Sessler so far is the only one I can remotely handle in this Google Hangout venue.

As for the Steambox... not a console killer at this point for sure. Who knows down the road but we do need to learn more before we can really judge.

Consoles are not going anywhere anytime soon, so no it is not.

SkullBlade1694616d ago

How can it be a console killer? It's designed to run on console-like hardware. 0_o

Moncole4616d ago

No because it just an OS for your PC. A person won't PC gaming for an OS.
