Details on PS4 Audio Processor (ACP)

VGLeaks: Mark Cerny confirmed in an interview that PlayStation 4 uses hardware expressly dedicated to audio tasks. What are the capabilities of this hardware? What is Sony telling to developers about it?

Hmm so both MS and Sony are using custom hardware to offload the stress from the CPU. MS's hardware is more custom as most of it is used for kinect. Either way good to see both consoles wouldn't be wasting cpu resources on processing audio.

I don't know the answer but unless you have a great surround sound system it will not really matter.

most people have the sound coming from the tv they will never know the difference.

this question will help people like me that has a stand alone amp and surround sound set up tho.

A man will be using his pulse elite headset so he is very unconcerned about this, just interested

it just means that CPU resources are not wasted.

where as the PS3, where the cell processor was used to decode audio, here with the PS4, it has its own dedicated audio processor. it wont have to use the APU to decode audio. I guess thats what that means. so developers have more room to make their games.

Yeah, it’s a lot.
