Hands-on Xbox One Impressions [Capsule Computers]

The VIP evening invited guests to see upcoming first party launch titles and the new Kinect 2.0, meet developers from Crytek and Capcom – interview with Dead Rising 3 producer Mike Jones here – and have some hands on time with the highly anticipated console. Members of the Capsule Computers crew each spent time playing the Xbox One to form the following impressions..."

Honestly having trouble finding any real negatives with the Xbox One at this stage. At the end of the day it's a matter of preference and exclusives. Even though I'm a PC/PS4 guy, next gen looks like a treat for everyone.

ZacE4545d ago

It's funny, I feel like even after playing it first hand, I would still be labelled a fanboy by many for even suggesting that it's a great console. I've owned the PS2, PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360, but I just so happen to be more excited for the Xbox One, at least at launch. And there's nothing wrong with that...

I'm being impartial when I say, I look at the launch lineups, and I see 3, maybe 4 (if Ryse gets enough polish) launch titles that are exclusive to the Xbox One that I am genuinely excited for, and none for the PS4. Killzone never interested me... so sue me. I'm still getting both, and surely when Naughty Dog, Quantic Dream or Santa Monica release their next-gen entries, we'll all be blown away.

Subby4545d ago

Yeah although I'm getting a launch PS4, funnily enough I'm not pumped to play it at launch. Rime looks amazing in the near-term but it's largely a long-term investment until the real games land. Plus, being a fan of Japanese games I can expect most to be on PS4 rather than Xbox One.

ceedubya94545d ago

Similar for me. I'm definitely getting both consoles at launch, but I'm not sure I'll buy any games for the PS4 yet and will stick with PS+ offerings for the time being. I really want to play Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct first of all. Depending on how my money is at the time I may pick up Killzone though. Under normal circumstances, I probably would have just waited until next year to buy the PS4, but I figured it would be best to just keep my preorder locked in just in case shortages happened. I want to have my console when Second Son comes out.

ZacE4545d ago

If Infamous: Second Son was a launch title, that would have been great.

HardcoreGamer4545d ago

Im afraid i feel annoyed by alot of them, eg power brick again, and its massive size. but its for the vents and to keep the beast cool. i guess there is give and take.

still not going to trust a company that almost tried to ruin gamers with the policies,

but its good to finally see the xbox being test everywhere

ZacE4545d ago

I wouldn't say they tried to "ruin gamers", lol. And if you think Sony weren't planning the same thing, and then backtracked when they saw the reaction to Microsoft, you'd be mistaken... I've actually talked to industry members from a certain third party studio who have said as much.

HardcoreGamer4545d ago (Edited 4545d ago )

im sory was not suppose to put tried.

and by the way sony in 2005 questionnaired and surveyed what people would think of the similar used game policies that xbox did in recent time. and it came out that sony decided in gamers favour.

this is in 2005 prior to ps3 launching, i used to work for game shop in uk, and i had this questionnaire from sony, our employees talked about it alot. and it was shocking but it didnt go through, sony didnt do it. they realised it was obviously a wrong thing to do.

thee was a lot of rumours as well that sony was doing it. and even i said that used games wont work on ps3 to my customers,, at the time in 2006 coming upto ps3 release
i will try find the source and information about this.

EDIT ,, WOW A QUICK LOOK I FOUND SOME INFO, THANKS NET. AWESOME

JUST MAKES ME HAPPY TO SUPPORTING A COMPANY THAT SUPPORTS US. HONESTLY DONT BE BLIND.

ZacE4545d ago (Edited 4545d ago )

HardcoreGamer...that is 2005. This is 2013, with new hardware, new leadership and new philosophies. I'm telling you right now that a developer who I can't name (and I know it sounds dodgy, but I'm being 100% sincere) pretty much confirmed to me that Sony had plans to do what Microsoft were doing, but once they let them go first (which was a smart move) and saw the negative reaction, they quickly changed.

Like I said, I have always supported both companies. My favourite exclusives of this generation are Heavy Rain and The Last of Us, Sony products.

And guess what? I actually didn't mind their plans, and if Sony did it too, no big deal because it actually wouldn't have affected me personally that much. For others, it was a bigger issue, and that's fair. In fact, there was a petition for Microsoft to revert back to their original policies, so there was obviously support for it as well (not as much mind you).

I'm press and I've talked to members of both companies here in their Australian division... they're all good people. I don't understand why you feel the need to defend one so vehemently too... the all caps and "Don't be blind!" are inappropriate. I'm telling you what I heard, from a developer, that confirmed the rumors to me.

reply to ZACE

YOU DONT GET IT MAN, sony dismissed the whole thing already themselves they didnt need a reaction from gamers, but they got the answer from asking developers and game stores and journalists.

once they got their answer they didnt do it.

what ms and xbox did is so stupid. they didnt think straight and plan is crap.

SONY saw that its not right 2005 to the policy and what makes you think its right in 2013, when 95percent of the world is against it.

HONESTLY IV HAD MY TRUST BROKEN BY MS. im not stupid.

waited 2 years for some amazing announcments from dry 2011 and 2013 for xbox exclusives and they pay us with the SHIT that was xbox one vision. and console reveal.

im not stupid dude. and alot of the reaction speak for themselves.

ZacE4545d ago

Yeah, speaking of, the Yakuza franchise is the other series I'm a fan of on PlayStation.

Subby4545d ago

Which unfortunately is seemingly lost forever for the Western market. Unless SEGA pulls its head in..

ceedubya94545d ago

I just started to get into this series recently. Playing Dead Souls (which is a lot better than most reviews say imo)and Yakuza 3. Hoping that the new one at least comes to the PS4 over here.

thejoker10004545d ago (Edited 4545d ago )

the console looks good but ms f**** everyone with its shitty policies i will never ever ever buy xbox , if i learned anything in this generation is that xbox is not place for games i missed alot of epic games this generation THE LAST OF US UNCHARTED GOD OF WAR KILLZONE INFAMOUSE.....and more sorry ms but it's time to change...... congratulation to the xbox fans

Gr1mmyshadows4545d ago

thank you, ill enjoy my xbone, i saw nothing wrong with their policies beisdes the used game one besides that everything was cool beans with me also and ill buy a ps4 the following year because it is just too good to pass up and i do miss playing those JRPG's

PFFT4545d ago (Edited 4545d ago )

LOOOOUD NOISES!!!!!!! :P

Killzone and God of War not so much.
But The Last of Us, Uncharted and Infamous were one of the best games this gen in my book.

Xbox One day one BUT i do plan on getting a Ps4 sometime early next year. Second Son looks amazing.

strickers4545d ago

I'm sure both systems will be good ( I'm getting PS4) but it still amazes me that XB buyers ( some ps4) keep saying they want Dead Rising and KI but nothing on PS4. Amazing. Forza I understand, but 2 sequels to dull games??
KZ will at least offer decent multiplayer.

mhunterjr4545d ago

I thought dead rising was dull too, until they have dr2 away for free to live subscribers. It's a fantastic franchise and I wish i had known so sooner. Dr3 loss to have addressed all of the issue i had with previous games and it is well deserving of the hype.

Killer Instinct was much loved back in the day. If you like fighters, their no way you'd think this revival is dull.

This really needs a re-release. Enjoyed all 4 games with 3 probably being my second favourite.

ocelot07205d ago

It once was. But the recent DR1 remake took that spot.

Christopher205d ago

It's 2013! I'm on my Xbox One and streaming from my laptop to my chromecast! Life couldn't be better!

TheColbertinator204d ago

Now I can stream my Xbox One from my TV to my phone to my tablet while I'm inside my refrigerator.

monkey602205d ago

It's not even the best one 🤨

ocelot07205d ago

Surprised this didn't get a Series S/X boost. I believe it's still locked to 30fps. Then again so is the PC version until you go into the .ini file and change it.

MetroidFREAK21205d ago

Genuinely surprised this still hasn't been ported

yeah they were such good and fun games but they never really reached the mainstream audience. Killer Instinct was widely known and respected.

Cacabunga320d ago

Killer instinct is great, especially on snes but it’s not the most underrated fighter.. for me it’s Power Stone. So much potential in this series

Jawsh666320d ago

Bloody Roar was a game that had a sick concept but wasn’t made the best. I’d say Killer Instinct was the opposite of that, it was well made but the roster of characters were so similar to every other fighting game in that era that it ended up feeling like more of the same. I could be wrong that’s just how I remember it at the time and I played a ton of KI on SNES because it was one of the first games I owned.

PRIMORDUS320d ago

I loved this game in the arcade, my main was Jago, Ultra Combo!!! https://www.youtube.com/wat...

DivineHand125319d ago

That combo was way overkill 😂

PRIMORDUS319d ago

I know haha, I loved Jago.

Bathyj320d ago

You're kidding?
It enjoyed probably more success than it deserved.
Unlike Tobal 2

MeteorPanda320d ago

Tobal 2 was awesome. Sold really well cause art similarity to dragon ball

jjb1981320d ago

I remember trying my hardest to learn that "Ultra... Ultra.... Ultra...." finish. Such a great fighting game.

Popsicle320d ago (Edited 320d ago )

I can tell you definitely got some SNES time in. The slight differences in the ports due to hardware constraints were interesting. For example, the arcade version was Ultraaaa Coooommboooooooo! versus Ultra….Ultra….Ultra on the SNES.

Though SNES overachieved as a port for as demanding as a game KI was.The arcade version was one of the first cabinets with a dedicated hard drive and the SNES version was 32 megabyte cartridge which was huge for that system at the time.

jjb1981319d ago

Yeah, for sure. My local childhood arcade was always packed and it was hard to get a game in but once the SNES version came out, I was hooked. I can still feel the click of the power button.
